I've been scanning a bit, and have some contributions that will come in a bit.
Well, Kylin (my Male Elf Mage) is going very well so far (the main reason I've been absent so long; having way too much fun with him and Zev
Up-thread, someone talked about the Gaxkang fight - you want to have fun with this one? Take two Templars with Holy Smite *eg*. I did this with Alistair and my CEM-2H Warrior and that fight was a joke. I think the AH form got off one CoC on us but we smacked him down so fast with Righteous Strikes and HS that he'd revert back to Revenant form almost immediately. Much fun, given how hard that fight can be with other party configurations.
Another up-thread comment, someone talked about leveling. The best I've done (no cheats, since I'm on PS3) was with the 2H warrior mentioned above. He finished at level 23, 2/3 of the way to 24. Then again, I'm pretty sure I hit almost every side quest in the game other than a small handful (< 10) I either missed or didn't do for RP reasons. Then again, for pure damage XP, the 2H warrior is one hell of a monster. Watching Darkien take chunks off the Broodmother's health bar when he'd hit her with Critical Strike was much fun
I didn't do the Varathorn (Dalish Camp)-Elfroot thing, but I did use my party chest at SP to keep all the random gems, runes, and crafting stuff I fond the whole game to give the Army chests right before leaving for Redcliffe post-landsmeet to hit the Final Battle. You'd be amazed how quick the XP adds up if you save all the stuff you don't use instead of selling it.

I actually see not getting the earring and proposal but still have a very devoted partner far gentler and happier than the brutal dumping you get from Alistair if he's not hardened. And WHO hardens Alistair if they are romancing him if they don't metagame? No one! ..
.
Umm... *raises hand mekly* I did this. My first playthrough, no spoilers. My character was head-over-heels for Alistair, so the way Goldana only wanted his money made that choice my first reaction. It was just anger and frustration that he'd so gotten his hopes up, only to be hurt yet again. Maybe I'm weird, but that was my reasoning behind it when the dialog options came up and I chose that, rather than a more "comforting" option. Then again, my HNF was quite emotionally damaged by the whole-family-slaughtered-by-Howe event, so she was byotch at times. Morrigan in particular didn't much care for her snide remarks
I need to spend more time reading the thread and catching up (I see there are dirty dwarf pics waiting to be seen? *giggles*), but that'll have to wait. Kylin just got finished saving the Arl, and he's about to ask Zevran to join him in the tent (he said no when first asked, but made it clear it was just "too soon"), now that he's put Jowan behind him.
Related to that, I've really gotten into this character a lot more than the others, as in I have a whole background in my mind, not just what Kylin's experienced in-game. I know how he originally came to the Circle, and why he betrayed Jowan to Irving (he told himself it was the right thing to do, but really, he had an unrequited crush on Jown and when asked to break the rules so Jowan could run off with Lilly, he subconsciously wanted to sabotage them). It's making all the discussions with Zevran (and the other NPCs, in some cases) a lot more interesting. I've even mentally constructed multiple conversations between Kylin and Zevran that go into these things... do people write fanfic for games? Because I'm half way thinking I might do that once the playthrough is over. I've never written fic for anything other than TV or movies, but this game has me changing my mind; it's just that good
