Wow... y'all have been busy while I was away!  I've given up on completely catching up with this thread... I'd have to quit my job! Posted Image

I've been scanning a bit, and  have some contributions that will come in a bit.

Well, Kylin (my Male Elf Mage) is going very well so far (the main reason I've been absent so long; having way too much fun with him and Zev Posted Image).  Much thanks to Swifty and ejoslin for the advice on the Assassins Encounter.  It actually went better for me this game than it ever has before; no party members even got injured this time, which shoked the shyte out of me.  Either I'm getting better at managing my groups tactics manually, or Kylin is a bigger badass than I thought LOL.  All it really took was locking down the mage with CP and a couple of Grease spells at the archers -- I didn't even get to the bombs!  I was looking forward to BBQd archers, but they went down before Leliana could throw fire bombs on top of the Grease (Shale powned the archers big time).  I sent Alistair after Zev, while Leliana, Shale, and Kylin took out the rest of 'em.  I couldn't couldn't bear the idea of Kylin damaging Zevran... completely meta-game OOC for Kylin since he's usually agressive against the biggest battle threat, but I told myself that maybe he's a little psychic Posted Image

Up-thread, someone talked about the Gaxkang fight - you want to have fun with this one?  Take two Templars with Holy Smite *eg*.  I did this with Alistair and my CEM-2H Warrior and that fight was a joke.  I think the AH form got off one CoC on us but we smacked him down so fast with Righteous Strikes and HS that he'd revert back to Revenant form almost immediately.  Much fun, given how hard that fight can be with other party configurations.

Another up-thread comment, someone talked about leveling.  The best I've done (no cheats, since I'm on PS3) was with the 2H warrior mentioned above.  He finished at level 23, 2/3 of the way to 24.  Then again, I'm pretty sure I hit almost every side quest in the game other than a small handful (< 10) I either missed or didn't do for RP reasons.  Then again, for pure damage XP, the 2H warrior is one hell of a monster.  Watching Darkien take chunks off the Broodmother's health bar when he'd hit her with Critical Strike was much fun Posted Image

I didn't do the Varathorn (Dalish Camp)-Elfroot thing, but I did use my party chest at SP to keep all the random gems, runes, and crafting stuff I fond the whole game to give the Army chests right before leaving for Redcliffe post-landsmeet to hit the Final Battle.  You'd be amazed how quick the XP adds up if you save all the stuff you don't use instead of selling it.

I actually see not getting the earring and proposal but still have a very devoted partner far gentler and happier than the brutal dumping you get from Alistair if he's not hardened.  And WHO hardens Alistair if they are romancing him if they don't metagame?  No one!  ..

.

Umm... *raises hand mekly* I did this.  My first playthrough, no spoilers.  My character was head-over-heels for Alistair, so the way Goldana only wanted his money made that choice my first reaction. It was just anger and frustration that he'd so gotten his hopes up, only to be hurt yet again.  Maybe I'm weird, but that was my reasoning behind it when the dialog options came up and I chose that, rather than a more "comforting" option.  Then again, my HNF was quite emotionally damaged by the whole-family-slaughtered-by-Howe event, so she was byotch at times.  Morrigan in particular didn't much care for her snide remarks Posted Image.  OTOH, there were quite a few instances where Alistair responded well when she was a smart a**.  Birds of a feather LOL

I need to spend more time reading the thread and catching up (I see there are dirty dwarf pics waiting to be seen? *giggles*), but that'll have to wait.  Kylin just got finished saving the Arl, and he's about to ask Zevran to join him in the tent (he said no when first asked, but made it clear it was just "too soon"), now that he's put Jowan behind him.

Related to that, I've really gotten into this character a lot more than the others, as in I have a whole background in my mind, not just what Kylin's experienced in-game.  I know how he originally came to the Circle, and why he betrayed Jowan to Irving (he told himself it was the right thing to do, but really, he had an unrequited crush on Jown and when asked to break the rules so Jowan could run off with Lilly, he subconsciously wanted to sabotage them).  It's making all the discussions with Zevran (and the other NPCs, in some cases) a lot more interesting.  I've even mentally constructed multiple conversations between Kylin and Zevran that go into these things... do people write fanfic for games? Because I'm half way thinking I might do that once the playthrough is over.  I've never written fic for anything other than TV or movies, but this game has me changing my mind; it's just that goodPosted Image

Welcome back! XD

To answer your question, "do people write fanfic for games?"
Boy, do they ever. :wizard:

And it's hard not to when a game has such rich characters, and enables you to create your own so thoroughly, as you mention above :3  (D'awww, poor Jowan.  And poor Kylin.  But lucky him to end up with Zevran. :P )

Oh, very cool!  I'll need to figure out where to post Kylin and Zevran's story, once it's written down instead of in my head.  I took down my fanfic site a while back when work got too busy for me to indulge in fandom.  I may just get a LiveJournal account or something.  Probably the easiest thing.

Yes, Kylin is definitely going to get his man in the end.  As for Jowan, it was a crush, but at the time, Kylin felt like the world was ending when Jowan wanted to run away with her.  Luckily, he's found a much better match in a handsome assassin, and is learning about love rather than infatuation this time around Posted Image

*grin* willikat, you are the ONLY one who does then!  I just wanted to make Ali feel better at that time.  That warden was a better girlfriend than commander for sure.  And look where it got her!  Best ending EVER!  Most unexpected one as well.

I'm glad you're popping in at least!

Oh, I thought about it, trust me.  I remember sitting there looking at the choices... the soft touch in me really wanted to console him, but that wasn't the character, that was me.  Raina Cousland (my first game) was really outspoken and harsh at times, even with King Cailan when first ariving at Ostagar.  Too blunt by far, but she (and me, by extension) were traumatized by the Howe slaughter, so I figure she was "softer" before that LOL.

I need to get back to Kylin, but I'm really wrapped up in this thread now.  Can you point me to the spoiler thread that has the Ranting of which you speak?  I don't care about being spoiled; it's going to be a while before I crack open Awakenings anyway, and I want to be prepared for anything (good or bad).  Thanks!Posted Image

It's bad when you're playing Awakenings, and are thinking "I wish Zevran was here - he'd know what to do" or "I wish my Zevvie was here to pick this lock!"  Oh...and when Anders starts his banter, you think "Zevran and Anders would get along SO well together - I wish they could meet"  Two peas in a pod the both of them!

Here's my rant.  It's more a really bad inconsistency with Origins.  But SPOILER warning here!

Rhinna, I am done with Awakenings, and I am not sure I'll play it again.  By the time I hit the end, I just didn't CARE what happened to anything.  It IS nice playing DA:O after taking a few days off!  It took me about 6 - 8 hours to beat it, fwiw, and I did at least three quarters of the side quests.  I really don't see how anyone could get 20 hours out of it.  I read the codex's, clicked on all objects I could.  I suppose I didn't drag everyone out at all times, but I still don't see how anyone could get more than 10 hours.

And yes, I missed Zev SO much!  OMG, I feel so strange saying that!  But Awakenings was so loney :(  Nathaniel had potential, but he talked to other people, not me!  Except a couple of times.

Seriously! Their banter would be hilarious... It's such a shame that Oghren is the only companion from DA:O. Awakening would have felt much more connected to Origins if there were more familiar faces :crying:

EDIT: I definitely missed Zevran as well. I would've really liked to hear his opinion on the Architect...

I'm not nearly as far along with Zevran romance as the rest of you.  I just got to the Taliesen encounter for the first time last night.  I had to gush a little.

PC: Zevran belongs with me now.
Taliesen:  You don't even know who you're talking about, do you?
Zevran: *awesome voice* And neither do you, Taliesen.
Me: :o

And then later at Fort Drakon...

Zevran: My dear Warden, did you miss me?
Me:

(As a side note, I loved that my dog could operate the ballista. :) )

Anyway, nothing new or revolutionary here.  I just wanted to say it.

I don't know if it's just me but Zevran seems to give his opinion in the main dialogs more than anyone else and that's what made me interest in him and let my pc in mys second playthrough romance him. Example : with Cullen at mage circle and with my mage pc, Zevran told my pc something about breaking many heart while Alistair didn't said anything at that moment o_O

Though, I don't know why she has a hard time with him, I am almost at Landmeet, he had 100 in love and he still didn't offer my pc his earring Q_Q

You may be glitched and he may still be at adore.  Have you done the Taliesen encounter yet?  If not, you have to wait until that's done.  And if you have, did you, by chance, tell him twice he should choose whether to stay or go, and then tell him it would be hard to kiss him if he left?  If so, the romance won't progress.  The glitch you sometimes get (having it say love instead of adore) would mask it if you did that.

Basically, after Taliesen, once you're at 91+ love, he should offer the earring.

Just DON'T do what I said above!  That will end the romance forever!  Tell him you'd be sorely put out if he left!  See him smile and laugh and be happy!

Edit: It's fun when it says Love early, but it doesn't change the romance, unfortunately!  But I love it when it happens!

As a totally hypothetical mod type question, since I have not played all of the backgrounds...

Which backgrounds begin the game already married? Dwarves have a spouse, right? Both genders? What about city elves? Is that marriage purely political and not about love?

Zev's not too happy to hear about the wedding, though.  But technically, you never did get married.

And Zevran still proposes if you're engaged to Anora/Alistair.  So, ummm, I guess not too much of a problem.

he may propose to you if you marry alistair/Anora but you cant exactly get married to him... expecially if your a guy and married to Anora or even put Anora on the throne by her self because I dont see her legalising gay marriage just for you (alistair however I can see being bullied into letting it be legal)
