Here is the toolkit line, though, that makes us all squee.

No idea you could find that in there.

I'm starting to have a huge crush on Anders. x.x'
Tomorrow I'll play DA:O again, just to see Zev again.
Awakenings makes me *sigh* because of all the Crow Daggers and stuff.

@jenovan, I hate you.

Oh, at @ Sannox, whether Zevran is jealous or not, whether he's falling in love at the beginning or not, all these things . . . up to the way we play it! That's the real beauty of this romance -- you can see things as you like to see them. The one thing that there is no doubt about, though: once he gets to a certain point, he cares deeply for the warden and wants her with him. And once he moves beyond even that, his love is just as deep and as true as you can imagine it being.

Hmm, yes, I do think the Crows are, as Zevran mentions, tied up in the Antivan monarchy, so they sort of are an element (although a covert one) of the government in that country.  Even if the merchant princes are the ones with the real ruling power, they're hiring Crows, too, I'm sure...

And CHARSEN!  I was coming back here to unthank you for ever mentioning "Bad Romance"!   Because I had to go buy the album (yesterday, coincidentally... must have been Gaga night, eh?) and now I can NOT 1) get the song out of my head, and 2) stop thinking of it in terms of Zevran and Taliesen.
(No, I suppose it isn't really a bad thing, but still!)

I will attend to Sresla's letter-challenge later.

haha, it is a pretty good song for that. it's all a devious part of my plan to make you into a gaga fan, you know.

and, i hope to heck the toad in the garden thing isn't still part of our gardening euphemism... :?

Oh, wow, I just found an ugly bug in awakening. When I level in DAO, I get two points per selection instead of one. I thought this bug was cleared up. After removing all mods, I was able to track down what was causing it -- Awakenings. Good thing it's easy to click off. But still, that's interesting.

Funny thing is +12 is exactly the approval I get when my warden asks him to the tent first. I know you can get up to +23, but I always have to ask about love!

Heh... Kylin got a +16 when asking Zev to the tent last night, but he turned down the massage earlier in the game, so I'm not sure how that affects how much approval you get for doing the inviting.  Moreover, Kylin's responses were RP driven so there was no asking about love.

This was... well, "rebound tent time" for lack of a better term to describe it.  Kylin had just asked the Arl to send Jowan back to the Circle (rather than executing him), and was ready to move on with his life with that whole episode behind him.  Talking to The Guardian made Kylin realize his real motivations, and the fact that Jowan didn't deserve to be betrayed for being unable/unwilling to love another man.  Kylin is also realizing that he was infatuated with Jowan, rather than really being in love.  Not sure how long it'll take him to completely fall for Zevran (it's bound to happen; the guy has good taste Posted Image), but for now, casual works just fine for him.  Kylin's in no hurry to get emotionally involved (and possibly crushed) again at this point.

While part of this solely depends on the characterization / storyline / background the player chooses for their Warden, I think some of those choices are also have a tendency to follow certain generalizations of gender (i.e. women tend to place more emotional connection into s3x than men).

I'm sure that's not the case for many character builds out there, it's just interesting for me to examine my own choices in the game, contrasting how I played as the Female Dalish Elf versus how I'm playing the Male Mage Elf, pursuing the same love interest.  Just talking out loud to myself, yet again LOL

BTW - Gave Zevran the boots right after tent time, and only got a +3, since my game has bugged to 100 level without encountering Talisan yet.  Trust me, I'm not complaining Posted Image

Ejoslin make sure you're also using the current version of zevranASAP since the first version of that mod also caused a similar problem.

Will do, Charsen; I didn't realize you had a new version out! Maybe it's a conflict there, but disabling Awakenings definitely solves the problem.

Not that it's a horrible problem or anything (some may call it a feature) but I'd rather not have to enable/disable stuff all the time. Thanks for the heads up!

It's working, curse you :pinched:  Bad Romance and Pokerface are kind of stuck on my playlist at the moment.

And, rofl, no... I don't even want to touch that one... XD

That song reminds me of him too, but it's him and Taliesin and then it's definitely a bad romance.

My only real point was, if you're the monarch, you can't just leave and chase your lover. Despite what the DA:O epilogues say!

Edit: well, maybe I didn't say that at ALL.  I do know that the romance with Zevran seems to be over if the warden is married to Alistair.  Which is one more reason NOT to have that royal scandal!

This reasoning is flawed, simply because you CAN indicate to Anora that you don't like her, right from the get go in Awakenings when she shows up (I don't know if there's a similar response you can give Alistair, I'm guessing not since he has to be accepting of the marriage to agree to it and he's different from the NPC status that Anora has). Not to mention that even if I'm the monarch of Ferelden, I still get stuck in Amaranthine, which is far and away removed from the capital and ruling anyone (except, apparently, 6 recruits, 2 of whom don't even really like me). God knows the peasants barely tolerate the Wardens, even if I save their city from darkspawn (where's Zevran with the quote about the short life span of ingrates...). It's a poor excuse to give in defense of not receiving the similarly poor epilogue. And, last time I checked, kings and queens can do whatever the hell they want - if I'd received the letter from Zevran, I might feel obligated to stay and deal with the darkspawn (and even that is questionable) but afterwards, what's to stop me from abdicating afterwards? Not a damn thing.

Edit: Also, Rhinna, letter, A+

Hi Creature 1 :D

No, I was thinking about Zevran with the Warden.  I didn't even know until I read Charsen's post (and subsequently checked ejoslin's Zevran FAQ to verify) that there was an "intimate history" between Zevran and Taliesin.  None of my PCs have had that dialog with him (he's never left any of my Wardens to fight Taliesin alone, whether friend or lover).  I may have do this path with a character at some point to see it for myself... maybe when I reload my HNF to fix her end-game inventory for DA:A, I'll find a pre-Talisan save and try it out.

Gah. When I get Awakening I'm gonna import my Surreal save. She didn't really romance Zev, she was an Ali-girl. She was also a DEF-2Hwarrior. She should be fun in Amaranthine and it's surrounding lands <.<. And no "Waah, no Zev!!!" drama.

Then I'll likely make an Orlesian Warden, and play through that way, then ignore Awakening. >.>

Sresla, it's pretty much the same with Alistair -- especially if you're at neutral. Well, you can tell him when he brings up the issue of an heir that you're going to be making one with someone else.  He accepts it.  And you can tell him it's nothing but a political arrangement.  Both of which I do.  Didn't change the fact that he became a love match in awakenings.

Oh, I'm sure Surreal'd still miss Zev, but I think it would be easier to play her than say Selene or Titian...

I'd be interested to hear, though, that horrible epilogue card aside (because I'm pretty sure we think it's unbelievable that he'd do it unless he's going behind your back and then I'm with Jenovan, my characters would turn to the nearest guy/gal and say, "Congrats, you're the new Warden Commander, go sip some darkspawn blood, I'm off to Antiva.") what people want their excluded letter from Zevran to say. C'mon, rise to the challenge - I expect some squee-worthy letters out of you all.

Hmm...  a quick first attempt.  (I couldn't resist the spirit of that last line from the original.. it was so very Zevran. ;)

My dearest,

Greetings from beautiful Antiva City! I hope this letter finds you well, and that you will forgive my abrupt departure.  Truly, you are magnificent when you are angry, but I would be far happier to not be the focus of that anger when next we meet.  It is punishment enough to be away from you for so long; a lonely bed in these warm Antivan nights is torture, indeed.

I am making some progress with my business here, but it goes far too slowly for my taste.  I would much prefer to be at your side fighting darkspawn, and, Maker willing, I will be soon.  Unless, of course, you have defeated them all by the time I return, which, knowing you, is a strong possibility!

Maker watch over you,
cielo mio.  You remain in my thoughts, especially the dirty ones.

Yours always,
Zevran

I think I like Jenovan's letter a lot more. I can hear Zev's voice as I read it, so that's always a good sign, though the greeting reminds me of something from a City-builder I've played...so I hear a woman's voice saying it... How odd.

I would write one, but...I've never been good at taking liberties with a pre-written character...

I love Shale too, Willikat. I wasn't sure if I could warm up to her, but the walk-out scene from Honnleth had me in stitches.

Another Shale fan - yay!!  Seriously, she is aweome in combat (if developed correctly), but I most enjoy taking her along for the sarcastic commentary.

Sabriana, have you taken her with you to Redcliffe for the Connor Abomination confrontation?  There are some classic Shale lines in that scene.  I think my favorite is when the Connor-Demon says to Isolde, "Quiet, woman! You are starting to bore me." and Shale pipes up with "And here I thought I was the only one."

For me, Shale is the only companion who gives Zevran a run for his money in the funny comments department, though I admit Sten is a close third. Posted Image

Ohh, I never have done that. Now that I have Zevran really early (I'm a member of the "worship Charsen" club), I can do that. Thank you for that tidbit, I'm going to try that with my mage. Honestly, the more I learn about the little DLC and the big DLC, the more I appreciate the original. I thought I knew just about everything, and boy, was I wrong.

Oh, when I occasionally get Shale, I take her and Zev to the bridge in the Commons just to get the conversation about Zev and the Warden having kids. That banter is wonderful. Aside from that, I rarely get/use Shale...

Surreal, Shale is quite insightful. She is just about the only one who seems to 'get' Zevran's point of view, and even though I do like Morrigan, Shale is one of two NPC's who seem to doubt her sincerity. The other one being Zevran, of course. Later on the PC finds out that Morrigan has an agenda, but only Zevran and Shale seem to be able to see it.
