Hehehe, at least after doing that one, there's no doubt in subsequent play throughs that it really is a proposal!  Alistair is usually my target for this sort of thing.  But he doesn't react nearly as strongly as Zevran does.

LOL, I think I hit that point earlier this evening... I was in a fairly routine fight but Zevran got KO'd by the orange-level baddie in the group near the end of the fight...  And you know how they don't recover until someone gets near them... PC ran over there and kissed him.   It just seemed appropriate!! *hides under fanfic excuses*

It'll have a happy ending for him, I promise. But I concur- he's almost always in my party because he's fun! to have in the group. His comments, etc.

And he's good at what he does- warming beds and slicing with swords. Daggers. You know.

What I want to know is why did he get changed from the concept Art Zevran to the ingame Zevran? he seems to be the biggest departure in regards from his initial look. How did that journey happen?

Oh. And if we are pimping out Zevran/Warden/with Alistair angst fanfiction. Because Zevran is also very fun to write!

I wonder that myself... I do like in-game Zevran, but I would
have loved at least some element of feathers and a unique outfit for
him. XD  Maybe that was impractical, though... like, I'm hardly tempted
to change Morri's outfit because, well, mage armor, pfft. ;D  But my
fighters get upgrades all the time... hmm...

I feel so cruel.  He doesn't get mad at all when you shoot him down, even after he basically says what he feels is going against all of his training and conditioning and you go for the throat and say you don't care.  He just gets very sad and matter-of-fact.  "Ok, so if you're done trampling the remainder of my heart into the dirt, I'm sure we have Gray Warden business to attend to."  Now I have to go be nice to him so I don't lie awake feeling guilty.

I honestly just couldn't have him in my party. I usually get a party member, recuirt them and do all their plot gifts. However..when I came to Zevran one of his plot gifts was...leather pants leaving an uneasy feeling about me. I quickly learned the spec he teaches

Then I quickly slayed him in camp after telling him he could go else where. He refused and I killed him in camp. I just didn't trust him and he wore leather pants so..eagerly

"Try them on" I would have swore they were pants. It seems I stand corrected they were Antivan Leather Boots. I found myself uneasy when he called me "Handsome" and his personality, I don't know if it's just me but makes me want to say how "Great" he looks



I decided once he taught me his skill, it was time to kill him..I have no regrets..

Hmmm, a friend of mine belongs to motorcycle club, and last time I looked, they were all wearing leather pants. Not to mention the leather boots and the leather jackets. And believe you me, they can spend hours talking about where to get the coolest, best made, greatest looking leather gear. However, most of them sans 2 or 3 are burly looking, bearded/mustachioed men. I guess you can love leather, and be a 'manly' man if you are a big, muscled man with 3 pounds of facial hair. Else you're a <insert expletive here>.

Re. fanfic, I don't read them, not because they are badly written, but because my PC ALWAYS clashes badly with how the writers invision their PC and his/her reactions.

For example, most PC's in the DA fanfic that actually romance Zevran earnestly are elves. My PCs so far are all human. I have a dalish started, but on ice, because I have no clue how to continue with her.

Secondly, I am almost depressingly hetero. No, I am not homophobic, I'm the whatever floats your boat, I won't judge you if you don't judge me kind of person, but m/m and f/f don't interest me in the least. It bores me, because I can't get into the story. Heck, I'm not even the least bit bi-curious. However, a wonderful, game- and character adhering love story between Zevran and a female PC are nowhere to be found. The "Duty" one is promising, but I have my doubts about Zevran's fate, especially given the 'Redcliffe' (*spoiler below to explain better*) happenings. Zevran always seems to be handed the short end of the stick, and none have captured the torn, confused, and self-battling Zevran, who finally finds a treasure he never knew even existed, so far.

Neither his initial cockyness and the "I'll shock you, and I love it" attitude, nor what follows has been adequately captured in my opinion. His journey from an almost life-long slave in a gilded cage, to respectful follower, to wanting so desperately to be needed and to belong, to confused man, and finally to a loyal and devoted lover would be nice, but unfortunately, I can't find it, and I don't have the time to write one myself. Heck, I barely have the time to post here, I'm swamped at work atm.

I finally came to, and tried the "hold on, it's too much" answer, and I had to pick myself off the floor. Not because I was laughing, but because the intense emotion, hurt, and utter heartbreak of Zevran was like a punch in the gut. Thank goodness I'm in the habit of saving before talking to Zevran (thanks to you-know-who *raises eyebrow in Ejoslin's general direction*), he really takes the consequences of that PC attitude.

Seems to me that Anora will be taken out of the picture as a traitor. Therefore, the PC, who seems to still be madly in love with Alistair, and he with her, will be the next on the throne after all. Now remember, that's only the feeling I get, and I'm in no way in any position to know the writer's intentions are, nor can I read her/his mind, but like I said, from reading the story, I once again feel that Zevran will get the short end of the stick.

It's nice reading, and Zevran is surprisingly in-character, but it's far from the Zevran-as-the-central-point-f/m-love-story. LIke I said, I can write (I better, or the University will come a-knocking, yanking my degree, lol), but I just lack the time.

I think the Zevran breakups after he is in love is a big reason for my squee.  I've actually never been able to NOT reload after breaking up with him at that point.  It's possible as well to break up with him at the gates if you leave him by calling him a friend, and while his whole demeanor shifts, he still just is so supportive.

They really got this character right!

Edit: I just got to starting the romance in this game, after the landsmeet was called.  Still haven't gone to the tent, because I am thinking maybe not sleeping with Zevran until after engaged to Alistair may be what causes the alternative dialog to the royal scandal speech.  But something must be going on because Wynne is still complaining about it!

Re: fanfic, you left out that they're all mages!  Elven mages!  I love playing warriors, being the tank, being the strong group leader.  

That breakup is horrible -- I think it's the best voice acting in the game.  He is absolutely destroyed, yet is still willing to stay and help.  And no, there is really nothing funny about it.  I can't help but compare the Zevran-after-in-love breakups with the Alistair-after-in-love breakups -- Zevran sounds like his soul is torn to shreds, while Alistair sounds sad but oddly relieved.  Leliana breakups, which I have done more times than I can count because it's so easy to accidentally turn it on have about the same impact as Alistair's.  She actually sounds sad but angry.

Meh.  I admit to being horribly cliched then, because mine has a male elven mage.  But the chief reason for that is because no one really reacts appropriately to blood magic, and the way you acquire that could be a massive conflict generator.  When I started playing the character I wanted to write some of that out.

Hmmm, I would imagine the cliche for a male character would be the warrior.

I'm not a reader of fanfic, but I did follow the links here and looked at a few.  The women all seem to be these tiny little mages, helpless but full of awesomeness anyway. There must be some out there with human women who carry big swords or battle axes, wear plate, and kick serious butt.  I just didn't spend much time looking.
