Hmm, Alessar wouldn't get epic!angry... anyone have good ideas for PC!sadface moments? The only one coming to mind is in RtO, and I'd be concerned the angle on that would be weird... :/

I don't think that Taliesin was Zevran's superior for a few reasons.  First, because I don't think there's much in-game support.  A lot of the background Zevran gives has a "there, I fixed it" vibe, like (different?) authors just wrote stuff into the dialogue as they thought it up without ever writing a coherent backstory, and never bothered to retcon.  Second, the impression I get of Crow hierarchy is that it's strictly stratified.  Growing up in the Crows I think Zevran's experience would have been that his superiors were demanding and merciless.  I doubt he would be able to trust anyone who was his superior because if that person wasn't pleased with him for some reason the consequences would be more unpleasant than just some strong words.  And finally and most importantly, because I think that scenario's boring.    I think the relationship would have been more intimate if they were equals and shared similar experiences, and intimacy + conflict = drama. 

And there goes Creature 1, making me confused again.  *sigh*  I go back and forth on this.  

The only real reason I have to support that Taliesen is an equal is a couple of times he says Taliesen agreed to be on his (Zevran's) team.  Which would mean Zevran is taking the contract and Taliesen is assisting him.

I just don't know!  I do know this, though.  When Taliesen meets them, he's sardonic and cold.

Hehe that picture is great. Of course, he has the added advantage of being a guy, as I think the male models in DA are more prone to anger than the females. But the frowny face-off continues!

ok this is may not be Xander but this is my NPC I  ever played in Dragon age... named Kharn who i nick named Mr frowny face

because even his NEUTRAL face looked like he was frowning (I also think he looks rather ugly but then again he romanced Morrigan and ended marrying that cow Anora as well)

@ejoslin: you may get a long rant about Awakenings. As long as I don't think about Origins, it's fine, but as soon as I do I start picking the game to shreds.



re:Taleisen- I had the option (on my screwy Xbox, so it may have been a glitch), with a romanced but not tented Zevran to get the line about how he and Taleisen were friends and more when discussing the mission with Rinna before the Landsmeet. I have never had him leave me during the encounter. It was post-fade and gauntlet with him, though I have no idea if that had anything to do with it. I still had Orzammar to do. I'll try repeating it with a character on the PC version as soon as I get this friggin virus off the desktop. <grumble> I have no idea how I managed to pick this thing up, but if anyone gets a nifty window from "Antivirus Vista", it IS NOT antiviruse software!!!!

I think the Crow masters are not the Crows in Taliesin's mind, the Crows are the Crow masters plus the assassins plus Taliesin's whole self-identity.  Inside the Crows there's a kind of "us vs. them" thing between the masters and the assassins.  The masters consider the assassins disposable, and the assassins lie to the masters when they think they can get away with it to stay out of trouble. 

When Taliesin meets Zevran he doesn't know what's going on, thinks Zevran left in a fit of temporary insanity, and probably thinks the only thing keeping Zevran from coming back is fear that he'll be killed.  The real betrayal doesn't occur until Zevran tells him outright that he's not coming back.  I imagine the result was like Zevran's encounter with the Crow master who told him that Rinna's death was inconsequential and shattered his self-worth.  Zevran just told Taliesin all of their history and experiences they shared were worthless.  That's when Zevran switched from "us" to "them" in Taliesin's mind.  Why it was a betrayal of the Crows and not just a personal betrayal is because Taliesin did have the option to leave the Crows himself, but he appears to have never considered it, so he really chose the Crows over Zevran.  Taliesin was all Crow. 

If he'd had some time to think about it, would he have done the same thing?  I don't know.

HATE that face. That whole scene is actually really weird. Maybe that's part of why I like Zevran's romance better.

And yay, it's good to have confirmation on that line. It makes it so much sadder.  

Edit: It's really astounding just how many times his jokes are there to cover up the horrible truth. It's also amazing that people tend to see his jokes only as jokes, and it's only after awhile that you start to see how true and deep what he's saying really is. It's really great writing! Heck, even we weren't sure about that line until you found that in the toolset!

By contrast, in the Zevran tent scene, the human female doesn't stop smiling. Zevran looks all serious in it, but in a good way.
