Aww.. yes, I've seen several folks say the expansion is "lonely", and several hours in, I have to agree... I feel like my companions are afraid to talk to me or something, and it's just every so often they work up the nerve to say something. :/
I like the new characters so far, but yeah... ^^; I feel a bit distant from them. Maybe that's what being the Commander is like.
I feel like the fool who has to fix all the dirty laundry ...
but no one asks if my character needs to talk.
Oghren of the expansion, not the Oghren of origins.
I have a character who had no affair with Zevran, but looking into every corner of the expansion.
And I do not agree, a commander always has his right hand, without that partner can not function well. In the expansion there is no such partner.
Change all the companions of the expansion by Zevran.

We're actually not discussing Awakenings here much because, well, Zevran is not in awakenings and not everyone who posts here regularly has played it yet. We have linked to things and posts and stuff outside the thread.

Hmm, didn't want to stir up the other thread ejoslin linked -- it's been quiet for 3 days -- but maybe I should. I'll stick this here for now, though. XD Perhaps the reason for the letter and the Awakenings epilogue are directly related to that "inconsistency"? Maybe Zevran got word of what was going down in the arling and went to investigate/bash some skulls/whatnot, since it was 1) the breaking of a promise, and 2) really stupid? XD I don't know... my brain tries to force it to make sense. T_T
This is the only way I can force some sense out of it, either, though it only works in certain RP situations. Maybe the Crows get wind that you are protecting Zevran and that pisses off some of the masters, who agree to take a totally lame-brained contract. Zevran would go back if he got wind that the Crows were not only coming after him, but coming after the PC because of him. Personally it is all so hamfisted and logic-breaking that I prefer to think that these are not actually the Antivan Crows, but the Crimson Crows. The Crimson Oars who get wind of this band of assassins in Antiva who get wenches falling all over them because of their fearsome reputation. So they don Antivan leather boots and pretend. I like that scenario much better.
Jowan did nothing for me, either, but I try to put this in perspective with those who say the same about Tamlen or Nelaros. In brief on-screen time, it's hard to convey a long relationship without forcing a player into an RP bind they may not want to be in.I didn't care much for Jowan at first, either -- I was like, why should my mage risk everything to help you? I had to think more about my PC's past (read: make one up) to find a good relationship for him and Jowan. That made meeting Jowan later quite a bit more poignant (thank goodness). *lonely Jowan fan* XD

Jayelet, that is my main problem with Awakenings -- I didn't feel any attachment to the new companions at all. I hated the new dialog system, hated having to click on things to talk to them, hated the way the banter repeated itself. The story itself was fine, though it needed some Zevran for sure (*grin*).
I didn't mind the system, but the characters were repeating themselves, going on and on about the same subject almost all the time. By the end of the game I knew what they thought about their family, tower of Magi etc, but little more. I didn't even know them well enough to anticipate their reactions to my choices, which I was usually able to do by the end of Origins. I think the amount of dialog was fine and the system worked for non-romancable characters, but the quality od writing diminished, sadly.

I don't know if it's just me - I've been playing without looking for spoilers, but some of my quests seem to be impossible to complete. I'm going to wait till the end and then look up answers in case I play again, but at the moment I don't know if the game is buggy or if I'm just doing it wrong.

i must be weird, but i like the whole clicking on objects to activate conversation stuff. maybe a hybrid of the two systems would be good. i think it allows for some interesting additions in the toolset dept, because dialogue trees can become very cluttered, and it's nicer to have smaller dialogues attached to objects instead of one huge dialogue... but that has its problems too.
so far i like the new characters in awakening except for velanna, who seems too similar to morrigan... but i see them as just colleagues and not "good friends", and that's ok too
@ejoslin - i don't think i could do the US personally...
also, yes, the lighting in the room for CZ's awesome screenshots is really bad. in fact, lighting in this game is quite odd. the skin tone of my avatar here is darker than my character in-game, and often he looks very pale... it's uncool but i'm used to it. i guess they just never noticed since there are no dark skinned characters in the games at all

A few gripes I have with Awakenings are:
- The inability to make runes, potions etc in the Throne Room (it makes no sense you cant).
- Some of the item's are stupidily over the top in reguards to power: TheVelvet Blade (+100% crit damage) and Staff of the Lost+Soulbound (I was speechless...+150% Spirit damage and a load of other bonuses) come to mind...although it won't stop me using them lol.
BTW: The achivements you get with Awakening does anyone elses have no description on them? Also my Most Powerful Creature Slain is blank? Anyone?
*Edit because making sense is a good thing*
Another gripe I just though of , it doesn't seem you learn Specilizations from companions any more rather you just buy the Tomes. Is this actually the case or has the wiki just not been updated fully?

My hubby bought it for the PS3, I've watched him play, and the interesting thing is, when playing DA:O he'd pick it up nightly....he played a coupld of hours of DA:A on Friday, and hasn't picked it back up. I asked if he was going to tonight, and he said no, that he was more interested in another playthrough of DA:O than completing a first run through DA:A.
My HMF went and did RTO last night with Alistair, Wynne and Leliana. Icky Wynne and Alistair convos!
She's romancing Alistair this game, Zevran just flirting with/keeping firendly. But I decided to save and go through the tent scene....just to see it as a HNF. Gotta say. I really don't like the HNF Zevran tent scene (vanilla, no tent better-sex mods). It starts off with him kind of looking....well, unsure and businesslike.....*blech*

And I definitely missed Zev. I knew he wouldn't be in it, but I was hoping for someone like Al or Oghren to at least walk up to me and say, "So, where's the elf?" But no one did. It made me feel like no one noticed or cared, particularly after Zevran pledged to remain by my side. The epilogue card definitely improved my mood a bit, and on my second playthrough I'll have my own ideas about why Zev left and what he's up to.

For example, when dealing with the brewing conspiracy, Alqua, my Elf Mage, felt acutely the separation from Zevran, because Zevran would have known precisely what to do in such a situation, being an Antivan Crow and, as such, skilled to deal with the nobility and its meddling. Without the wise counsel of his lover, Alqua decided to wait for the conspirators' first move - he couldn't trust a generic Dark Wolf to help him, and my mental story, he instead wrote a letter to Zevran and then let the conspirators set a trap for him.
It's just a little role-playing touch, but it helps soothing the absence of our favorite painted elf

Awww no problem.
And are there any spoilers in Zevran's letter besides him going back to Antiva/the Crows? I really want to read it, but only if it doesn't talk about anything else with the game. Thankfully Zevran spoilers don't matter since, well, he's not actually in Awakening, and, well, there just aren't that many...

I may have liked awakenings more had there been a few mentions of Zevran. I'm not sure though. It felt weird clicking on objects. I just didn't bond with anyone. I actually finished the game with the felon's coat and rose thorn.
@Charsen, the US really is a horrible ending for your romance partner. As CZ probably told you, I didn't even recognize your character at first because he was SO pale in that!
Edit: And Nonvita, no, no spoilers at all. The letter itself is wonderful.

Huh... I guess I haven't played enough Awakenings to get repeat banter yet, but that would get old, fast! Why would they abandon whatever system they used in Origins to keep that from happening?!
Yeah, even Morrigan points out that he shouldn't be punished for his choices (not that she isn't biased or anything XD). He would have been a fun companion, I think (heh heh, and seeing how he'd interact with Alistair or Wynne would be interesting.. XD). I actually wonder if he was cut because he'd be a party member with close ties to one of the origins...Charsen wrote...
aww. I liked jowan. i wish he could have been a companion, really. he's a troubled guy, and made some stupid choices, but who doesn't? my (chantry-loving, loyalist) mage would have loved to help him seek redemption
SERIOUSLY. When I first loaded up Mara (current avatar) in a game, she barely looked any darker than Tamlen. I went back to the character creator wondering what I'd done wrong! It's not as bad in some locations, but it's weird...also, yes, the lighting in the room for CZ's awesome screenshots is really bad. in fact, lighting in this game is quite odd. the skin tone of my avatar here is darker than my character in-game, and often he looks very pale... it's uncool but i'm used to it. i guess they just never noticed since there are no dark skinned characters in the games at all

The only thing that sounds weird is the writing style, but that's just getting into personal taste.
And OK, CZ, I went ahead and snuck a peek at your screenies even though I should be working on other things. Thanks for the laughs (and making my dreams of seeing your and Charsen's characters go at it come true =P )!

Ok, out of curiosity, how much would anyone be willing to spend for a DLC that featured going to antiva and dealing with the crows with Zevran -- provided Zevran was true to character as a friend or a romance partner? Say it was only a little longer than RtO. I seriously would spend FAR too much for something like that. Maybe $15 - $20. YES, I'm stupid that way, but I would be able to rationalize it with good writing and the voice actor! *sigh*
I'm pretty sure I would pay that much, but I certainly wouldn't admit it to anyone outside Zev-loving circle

Absolutely not...
... I'd pay even more than that! I can arrive at $25 - $30, if it's the only and last chance to see the Warden and Zevran.
