Again, thank you so much everyone! XD Now I want to start a new character and try Zev out again. What is your favorite race and gender to romance Zev with? And I'll try not to be too vulnerable this time, but I always am. I'll just have to remember that he is falling in love with me.
I prefer romancing him as an elf. It avoids the power differential in human-elf reationships. The relationship is already unequal as he has pretty much willingly made himself your slave. He actually makes a comment about being able to choose his master in the party banter. My Dalish rogues tend towards the spunky side. Then again, they have all been male, so that may have had an impact on the RP.
I didn't hop in on this part of the thread earlier, but I always viewed Zev's reticence about expressing his feelings for the Warden coming both from the fact that he has no experience at all with love and trust, or even real friendship; and from the fact that the relationship is not equal, particularly at the beginning. He won't romance you, but think of the enormous approval bumps every time you tell him that you are glad he is there and want him to stay. (and the huge hits when you don't). His life is quite literally in your hands and he makes it very clear if you ask him to leave before the Taleisin encounter that you are basically sentencing him to death. He probably doesn't feel that he has the *right* to ask anything of you, and you know he views himself as all but disposable when you first meet him. He has never been able to ask for what he wants. Even his mother's gloves were taken from him. He has never been given a gift (think of his reaction when you give him his first plot gift). And he has been used for sex- that is something he makes quite clear. Initially, he may well be trying to offer you the only things he thinks he has to offer: his skills as an assassin and his skills in bed. He offers his "bedroom" services in such a way that it is easy to turn him down so he won't seem to be forcing the issue; but he offers repeatedly.
The short version of that: I RP it more as though me PC realizes from his comments early on that he sees himself as a thing- a possession to be used and discarded. And my PC initially just hurts for someone so damaged. He doesn't even defend himself when the other NPCs take swipes at him. He deflects with humor and ribald comments, but it is almost as if he agrees with their low opinion of him. As my PC travels with him and realizes that he is very insightful and that, of all the companions, he is the only one who is focused on whether or not my PC is alright. Wynne is worried about me doing my duty. All of the others want me to do something for them (well, except dog). Zev offers himself, and after that first tent scene makes it clear that you can pretty much use him at will.
He won't sweep your PC of his/her feet, but he will defend you to his dying breath and go anywhere you lead, and do anything you ask as long as you value him.
