Oooh, neat, thanks, SabrianaI've never played any of the Morrowind games, although they always sounded really interesting...
Morrowind and Oblivion are great games. Pretty light when it comes to story and characters, but heavy when it comes to exploration. They are fun trips in high fantasy lands, but don't expect the deep of BioWare.
What's the (Romantic) Appeal of Zevran?

@Sabriana, as Ramante says, this is part of the conversation Nate has about the portrait. If I were at home I'd dig up the exact quotes, but yeah. :<

Edit: It was only supposed to trigger in camp. Very easy to add an extra two lines of code to get that fixed. I'm not sure I should post it, though just because I have no clue what other mods it would mess with. It does work with DT though...

I downloaded Morrowind from Steam when I was starting to get bored with DA, but I'm fumbling around with gameplay since we don't have a guide. The graphics are also so primitive if you're used to the newer generation of games. I don't think you can go back if you didn't start out playing that sort of game.Creature 1 wrote...

@ Sannox : I want you to know I read everything and I agree, but I have nothing coherent to add to discussion anymore without repeating myself
Thank you. It's nice to know that there's two of us, at least.
Oh, come on now, my friends. This isn't an us vs them thing, every player has to feel right doing the things they do. Yours is just as understandable as those who differ. I do see your points, I just see it differently. I really do wish they had included lines that let Zevran at least have an inkling that the warden values him beyond friendship.
Oh, I don't mean that it's us versus them. Just that it's nice not to be the only one who feels it a certain way. I agree that those lines should be there. Well, it feels as if they should, anyway. I've just listened to the Rinna dialogue again on one of my characters, and I wish there was more that the warden could say at that point. I think Zevran actually reveals a lot, and the warden reveals very little.
I actually have been thinking about this a bit. I really hope you're not feeling attacked at all, Sannox. I know the way I view the whole romance changes between playthroughs, and it's one of the things I like most about it. I have had characters where she and Zevran hit it off immediately, connected and from the start were inseparable. And other playthroughs where it was totally physical, until it wasn't anymore.
It's one of my favorite things about the romance, that there's much going on that is beneath the surface. In fact, that's one of my favorite lines when it comes to Zevran (if you can stand the breakup), that everyone makes promises, both spoken and unspoken.
What makes that good, though, is you can put yourself into the romance in a very deep way. You know it starts with a mutual attraction, and possibly ends with them so much in love it's crazy, but how it gets there, at what stage it starts to turn -- that is different for everyone and can easily change from playthrough to playthrough.
So no one is telling you you're wrong! I love reading and talking about all parts of the romance, even if they're not the way I'm playing it!
Stupid work and sleep getting in the way - I'm sorry I took so long to respond and that it will now be way out of the context of the thread (which I hope is now full of pictures of inappropriate characters having sex with each other).
No, I don't feel attacked at all. I love reading other people's views on this, and am delighted to be able to discuss it here. (None of my real life friends play DA). It's just that when my view seems so at odds with the general one, it's nice when somebody else feels the same, so I was grateful for Minaleth's post.
I think that when I first played through, I went through a process for falling for the character of Zevran. I was not detached. I sometimes fall for characters in films or books and it felt just like that. There were certain aspects of his character and the relationship that reminded me of my boyfriend. One thing in particular was his complete devotion to my character, as if all he cared about was her. He doesn't ask for anything - hardly even tries to influence the character to think of his needs rather than her own, yet gladly does anything she asks. (I'm saying 'she' because I'm thinking of my first character).
So the earring is the first and only time he asks for anything from the warden, and then all he is asking is that she accept a gift. I know there are other interpretations, but I feel that his reticence there is because he isn't sure about the warden's feelings and is still confused about his own, not because he wants to hurt her. Sell it or give it away - doesn't mean to me that he would want the warden to do that, but that he's not making demands on her (even if it means nothing to her, he just wants to give it. That rings true to me. It reminded me of a real life experience). It's the only time he asks something of the warden, and I still feel guilty for refusing last time. I don't think I can do it again.
I'm often just relating the story to my own personal experience, or going on gut feeling. I don't really know what's right. I think I can see that the 'proposal' option is presented as 'better', but I don't feel it.
ETA: I think all my characters will end up falling for him from the beginning, whether they know it or not! But I agree that it could be played as happening later, even right at the end.

I tried Oblivion and really came to hate it and its clunky levelling system and crappy characters and extreme loneliness. I know a lot of people loved Morrowind way more, though, and I do want to try it eventually. I just wish someone could give me a giant list of mods to make it better first, though.

Eep, sorry about any spoilers.
I also didn't like Oblivion. I got bored pretty quickly. I didn't think I'd like DA:O either, but I tried it out since I liked Mass Effect so much... and now I like DA:O more than ME
I've never played Morrowind, though. To anyone that's played it... is it worth it (with mods)? Or is something like BG2 better? DA:O has me curious about other rpgs now...

personally I find the OC rather mediocre but if you like personal stories with great characters(that dont involve saving the world) Mask of the Betrayer is amazing and the game quite possibly has the best evil playthrough iv ever seen in a game
plus with Storm of Zehir installed rangers and druids can get a pet dinosaur~ (druids can get a pet dragon as well but its stupidly hard to get and not worth it at all)

I liked the "evil" ME playthroughs, but only because the dialogue is so much funnier that way.

Morrowind needs to be modded, especially the faces. I had a mod by a guy named Motoki, and he did an awesome job. I think he quit though. Anyway, there a lots of mods out for Morrowind.
Oblivion got better as soon as I threw a ton of mods on it. Especially the romance companion mod.
I missed the painting, I hate that dialogue system. Thanks for telling me. Neither my friends, nor my lone play-through ever picked it up. I had a hard time finding stuff to click and talk. I'm sure I missed plenty.
Yes, Nathaniel could cry in my PC's bosom anytime. I have only an Orlesian Warden, my Origin PCs couldn't go, lol. Truth be told, I don't think I'll have one of them go anyway, I feel they are done and their story is finished.

MoTB is the best expansion ever. Well, except HotU.
I like MoTB quite a bit more than HotU though Deekin was lulzy (then agian MoTB you can get an undead spirit golem or a Rashemi bear god on your side both fo which are pretty awesome)

But how did you backward it to the OC, CZ? I thought characters couldn't go higher than 20 in the OC? Or am I missing the obvious (again).
Well, I'll go play a little Origins. I'm so tired, and it's only 9 PM here. I can feel for my PC and her buddies in the forest by the spirit trap - tired is terrible, lol. The one I always have my PC go to asap because certain gloves are right there as well, hehe.
