I must have imagined that he could be king if hardened - does the hardening not make a difference to the Loghain situation, then?  I suppose that is more realistic.   I spared Loghain with an unhardened Alistair and there was no way to make Alistair king (he and Anora had agreed to be married), so got the wandering drunk epilogue.

I suppose it would be strange if Alistair could be king and you could end up with Loghain there at the coronation, with Alistair somehow forgetting about executing him.

Is One-Eyed Monster actually funny?   I'll watchh anything if it's funny.

Yeah, he can only be King if he marries Anora. But he still has his temper tantrum true to character.

It's funny in a "the world has no meaning and life is not worth living" sort of way... I won't talk about what it's about. Just... google it. Seriously. It shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread. I feel terrible. :(

Oh I see, so he can stay be and king, but it's not to do with whether he's hardened or not? I must have chosen the wrong responses. I find the dialogues difficult to navigate. I'm not very intuitive about what the warden's responses are supposed to mean. And you can end up with a Alistair as king and Loghain alive? I would like to see that. It's fun when Alistair is nasty. Why doesn't he execute Loghain? Is it because Loghain's now a grey warden?

I obviously am quite clueless about all the Alistair options. It doesn't matter too much what he does as long as my wardens have Zevran (whose every word and action I obsess over).

Alistair will only stay if you have arranged for him to marry anora beforehand and if he's hardened.

I did google it.   The fact that it stars Ron Jeremy is a clue.  I'd still watch it if it was actually funny though!  (And not too offensive).

@Nonvita: I agree about freeing him.

And for me, the fact that there is anything left to free after all he has been through speaks volumes about how very strong he really is.

I like Allistair and I even like Lel (when she isn't ninja-loving my Warden), but they both whine far too much. Oghren has been through hell, and he is a drunk, but he doesn't whine. The guardian's comment about Shale sums up my view of her perfectly: her very existence is a testament to her will and she doesn't whine (other than her bird thing). Morrigan had the mother from hell and no one to turn to but the forest critters and she doesn't whine (aside from the cold tent comment). Zev's been through ten kinds of hell and he tells you to ignore his scars. The least damaged of the bunch are the ones who whine.

Then tell you what: if you're ever really really drunk, and really really in the mood to watch a terrible, offensive, cheesy, but slightly humorous (in the gross kind of way) movie, then go for it. But don't say I didn't warn you. :P Now let us speak of it no more!

Oh, completely agreed with everything you say. Unfortunately I've yet to see Oghren or Shale in the Gauntlet, but I love Morrigan in there. You can feel a certain level of empathy from her (in her own way, of course), even more than Alistair's comforting words. Planning to try Orzammar first next playthrough because I want to get to know Oghren (and Shale) more, although his characterization in Awakening makes me a little worried. :(

Nonvita, don't take Oghren. His is so unbelievably sad, I teared up a little bit because of it. Every one else's is like, "whatever". I wish that Morrigan would answer her freaking question though. I'm weird, I don't like mystery.

Oghrens also gives good insight into himself and the ashes themselves though

@soulsweeper and surreal, It's a wonderful thing to begin the day with such Zevran art Image IPB
Thank you for sharing Image IPB

@sami jo, you are right when you say, that the less damaged are whining most. That's why I like Zevran so much and also Morrigan.

Oh I know- you don't even get to hear her question. I like, though, the way she gets upset at it all. It's dumb to put everyone on the spot that way. It's not even any sort of a "moral" test, since you can get by no matter how you answer the question. It's just a way of shaming everyone for the sake of shaming them.
Morrigan speaks up as soon as the Warden is questioned. It's probably not intended as a friend thing, but I've always taken it that way. She's basically saying, "Leave him/her alone." It's about as close as she ever comes to protecting the Warden.

I do want to see Oghren, though. I usually end up being his friend, but still feeling like I know so little about him. I help him get back with Felsi, give him his alcohol, but where's the substance? I want to know more!

I've never taken Oghren into the gauntlet, because I'm used to do the ashes before Orzammar. Would you say it's worth to get Oghren first ?

It's possible that the "I still love you" line had a different condition as well -- some of them appeared to be assigned at random. I know my first playthrough, when Alistair most definitely had the "still in love" flag, I got the buddy ending and it broke my heart.

What does he say??  I'm not likely to ever get this dialogue in-game but am curious.

Hello my lovelies. I'm still trying to catch up, but I'm only on page 579. We'll be at a thousand in no time, I have no doubt.

I have finally finished getting all those people out of my house. I swear, this one night-party thing is turning into a weekend party thing. I had about 15 people over here last night. Walking through my house (well, apartment, actually) this morning was funny. Why is my 2meter tall friend sleeping on the two seater, and my 1,50meter friend on the four seater o_O.

And thank goodness for roll-away beds, is all I can say.

*rushes backward to continue the catch-up*

I should have said, my first playthrough I got the buddy dialog.  He sacrificed himself and I got the kiss.  Was fabulous.  But here is what I'm talking about.

Alistair: So I'm not going with you, I see. Any particular reason?
Warden: I'm not going to risk you getting hurt, Alistair.
Alistair: And you think I want you going in there and sacrificing yourself? You think I want you to die?!
Alistair: But there's no use in arguing about it, is there? We don't have time and... you are a stubborn, stubborn woman.
Warden: Your duty comes first. You said it, yourself.
Alistair: I guess I deserve that.
Alistair: I guess this is the last chance we'll get... before this is finished, one way or another. Be careful in there.
Warden: Just go. I refuse to say good-bye.
Alistair: No good-byes, then.

The transcription does not do it justice.  It's supposed to end with a kiss, but of course, it does not.

Ohhh god this game can make me cry like no other. :crying: I didn't even get the kiss the first time and it was still so heartbreaking.

Speaking of the Gauntlet (indirectly), I was perusing Wynne's dialogue (yes, I know, why oh Maker why, but I was looking at the Zevran is bad for you conversation) and found another "God I want to kick her in the teeth" moment. I hadn't ever gotten this one on my mage - I'm guessing because I never take her to Redcliffe - where she talks about Jowan and proceeds to tell the player (if they're a mage) how Jowan talked about you with resentment back in the Tower.

WTF is THAT. Why would you tell anyone that, even if it were true. Oh, by the way, the dude who you basically sacrificed your life for and might have gone to prison or been killed for helping if not for the Grey Wardens sort of hated your guts. I gotta say, I always thought Jowan and I were like, best friends and to just READ that made me go ???. ??? to Wynne for telling me and ???x2 to Jowan for just basically being an **** to me behind my back. I seriously wonder how a Warden might have made it through the game without Zevran (<3), considering how much crap we all end up having to deal with.

Metagaming note: No need to avoid calling Lily a cow next playthrough. <_<

Edit: Forgot to add the best thing - the VO note for that dialogue? Remembering fondly. Ya, FU too, you old biddy Glad to know that people hating on me is a fond memory for you... And you wonder why I might never want to go back there and/or wipe out the mages?

Your companions have various things to say in the different areas, so it's fun to bring a companion along on a (plot) quest that you haven't taken them on before. The gauntlet in particular will tell you more about the characters, though. I did a Sten playthrough recently, which was really fun. His dialogue if he helps you across the lake to the mage tower is hilarious. And the banter between him and Shale is great.

Using the ZevranASAP mod is nice because you don't have to miss a main quest with Zev <3 (that way you can even take him with you through Lothering, though he obviously doesn't have any dialogue there... still it's nice to have him with you)

And I've been with Sten to the tower. It was such a nice way to persuade th templar to get us to it. BTW I love cookies too Image IPB.
But I'm sorry for Sten that there was no cake at all at the end Image IPB

Pfeh! The only resentment I ever saw with my 2 mages is Jowan complaining that he's been there longer than they have, and yet, he still hasn't gone through the harrowing.

I'll just take that as Wynne putting her own spin on everything, and I will dislike her even more now.
