What's the (Romantic) Appeal of Zevran?

Ejoslin, I don't think it would be more immersion breaking than having Alistair refer to himself wrongly as king. And good belated morning to you too. I'm glad you're close to finishing. What a lot of work you did *is awestruck*
Jenovan, I do that all the time too. As soon as they leave the CharCreator and enter the game, their personality develops. Sometimes they take me by surprise even.
Soignee, it is only a blurb, and it doesn't always fire, but when he steps toward the PC (before the 'ashes' cutscene fires) he says something like "It IS real" in an awestruck voice. He also says that he is devout in that banter, and to me, that rings true. The whole banter sounds like truth/scolding Ali/tweaking Ali's nose combined.
If that's all it takes, Sannox, I'll be looking into that video stuff asap.

What are Zevran's thoughts on religion? I know he did that lulzy conversation with Alistair about "sin, then repent! Then sin some more, then repent!" Where he was doing his deflecting thing again, and his reaction to the "vase" in Ashes quest is also comedy gold...
But! I was wondering what his beliefs where, as I got the vague notion he believes, but doesn't think the Maker/Andraste actually care about their followers.
He reminds me of people I've known who have been brought up in a religious community where faith isn't really questioned. I think he probably has a personal faith, and isn't too bothered about the trappings. I also don't think he's arrived at his faith by questioning, but it's just something that's there - it probably seemed to be one of the good things in his life when he was little. It maybe helped him get through that awful childhood.
He doesn't seem at all bothered about desecrating the Ashes, when you plan to do it, when you do it, or afterwards.
The 'sinning' is probably something he was forced to do, wasn't it? If he means killing people. He didn't have a lot of choice in that. Maybe the 'repenting' helped him to deal with that. Yes, it's deflecting, but there may be some truth in it.
Is it the same chantry/church in Antiva as it is in Ferelden? It may well be that he doesn't feel any connection to the Ferelden chantry but does in Antiva. I tend to think of him as something like Roman Catholic in background, probably because of the Antiva/Italy connection.

I don't think he's that bothered if you desecrate the Ashes as he figures, "well what's one more sin?" Will he find the Maker like Leliana later on in life? Hmm... No, can't see it.
No, I don't think so either. I think that the whole "maker" thing is a crutch for Leliana, and some more proof that she can bend like a pretzel to fit into the environment.
For Zevran, the Warden is all he needs. Zevran needs no crutches, especially not faux-devotion to an intangible entity.

Have you ever heard him say, when you first enter the chamber, "Maker's breath, it IS real!" His tone is full of awe. That alone convinced my DNF not to desecrate the ashes.soignee wrote...

The way I see it, Zevran never closed off his feelings as he was supposed to as an assassin. Yet he has seen hundreds of lives end. Rather than become immune to it, he has learned to have a certain awe for the mystery of life. You hear this in his banter dialogues with Shale. I even think it is behind his comments about the power of having someone's life in your hands. So I think this has made him a man of faith, if not in the formal sense, because his existence has been so precarious. It is not something rote to him and he can't articulate it very well, but he is so angry in the dialogue with Alistair that you can tell it means something to him.
Clear as mud?

I agree with you Addai, but he would never turn into the "maker this, maker that" faux-devotee that Leliana seems to be. She most likely didn't act like that out of a need to deceive, just to do her usual 'adjusting to everyone'.

I can't see this, either. Leliana is much more of a moldable personality, and like you say, she adapted to Chantry life just as she will, if hardened, adapt back. She also has a romantic nature and romanticizes the Maker much like some medieval female mystics did with Christ. Zevran is more of a practical sort, though like we said, he retains this streak of what I would almost call superstition.
On another topic... I missed this, too, in the fast-moving nature of this thread, but do I understand it right that Charsen was using Flemeth as a stand-in for the HF gates kiss? That is just.... disturbing. LOL

And yes, we definitely have CZ to thank for the Flemeth incident, rofl.
Edited to stare in disbelief. Talk about fast moving *agrees with Addai once again*

No! Don't give him ideas!
If Charsen weren't doing so many great things, he'd be in big trouble in my book. CZ may come up with the ideas, but actually following them is a whole different story... =P

I too want supernatural powers! Actually,
Zev DID say he managed to stare seven skirts off a dancer back in Antiva, so it all makes sense!!Cuddlezarro wrote...

Hmm, I'm might be completely clueless, but there is really nothing about the newest DLC on YouTube. All I found were two one-minute... thingies.
There isn't really anything to see! There aren't any cutscenes. The pranks for Zev is just a silly belt-type item, and there is not even a comment from him ;-(. The pranks for Morrigan or Alistair don't even have items, they just give massive disapproval..
One thing that prevents me from regretting that I bought these is the gift for Dog - it's a stick, and your character and any of the companions can actually throw it, and Dog brings it back! Cuteness overwhelm!Tellervo wrote...
I agree about the DLC... I actually
found some of the Feastday stuff to be in extremely poor taste, and a
bit of a waste of my time.
But I do agree that Zev is OOC in RTO. Does he say anything in WK? I don't remember if I ever brought him there ;(
Anora does it but you really better spare anyone hearing it.... *shudder*ejoslin wrote...

Aww, I really wanna try your mod ejoslin, but I'm currently playing with Immortality's Ser Gilmore mod, and it would conflict

I've written a short fanfiction too. I don't know why, because I don't write, but this one seemed to slip out by accident. Where do you put them? I'll start a livejournal account for it if that's where most people are.
