@Nonvita: I know Zev seems to brush off the nasty comments of the rest of the companions, but am I the only one who thinks he sounds really sad at the end of the Crows banter with Shale when she tells him to get away from her and he says "I get that a lot." He really does get that a lot from the rest of the companions, which makes his devotion to the PC all the more amazing.

when you get to the fort drakon part pick Zevran and Oghren as your partners its freaking hilarious

@ sami jo... He's very upfront about himself, and I don't think he lets the opinions of others affect him... not even the Warden's if you chose to be a jerk to him. I took that banter with Shale as him being comically dramatic, but maybe others took it as you did.

Try being rescued by Oghren and Zev as well.  It is really funny. 

I won the battle with Cauthrien (sp?) my first playthrough.  I gave myself up the second playthrough, but didn't realize it was possible to be rescued.  When I finally headed to the forums thinking I couldn't be spoilered at that point, I discovered the "rescues".  I spent a ridiulous amount of time with my next PC running through all the rescue combinations.  They are all hillarious.

Eh, my HN used that on him. She really was closed-minded and arrogant at first. Yet she still managed to keep him through Taliesan, and they were great friends at the end. He managed to sway her on a lot of things, and he was a great counter to her often hard-headed ways.

Yeah, but your rude HN didn't expect to be liked by Zevran for it, and I can imagine that she was rude to everyone (or almost everyone). Besides, you were RPing. I mean the players who purposely choose the rudest answers they can find for him, and then wonder why he disapproves. The PC can disapprove of Zevran's views/actions/etc. and still become a good friend to him. As you point out, lol.

I'm also talking about people who say they refuse to 'suck up' to him. Being polite is not sucking up, imo. And lastly, that was the only example I could come up with at the top of my head. Maybe it would have been more to the point to have remembered "We're talking about Antiva,  not your leather fetish." What fetish? I know a lot of guys who are very picky when it comes to leather boots. Especially the motorcycle crowd.

Sami Jo- I haven't used Shale/Zevran long enough to get a lot of their banters. =( They're lined up for my next playthrough, though!



Just one problem: I haven't actually played DA in weeks, and keep getting too distracted to sit down for it... If I'm not in class/at work/doing homework, then I'm feverishly drawing (and trying to get back some lost skills >.>) or mucking around in the toolset doing nothing when I could be accomplishing far more elsewhere...

Just had Zevran (and Oghren) at the Gauntlet for the first time... Zevran's answer made me sad for some strange reason. His response was very honest but also in a 'how dare you ask me this I don't want to talk about it' kinda way. (can't find the right words)
Does this make sense?

Zevran doesn't take offense at being asked, "So you smell a cesspool and think of home?" I love his answer there, actually. The only things Zevran seems to take badly is when you attack HIM. He sees the party kill people so doesn't take people preaching at him about being an assassin or a murderer too kindly. Especially since characters like Sten and Leliana don't get the same condemnation.

Edit: @Ramante I like Zevran at the gauntlet (ok, I'll be honest, I like him EVERYWHERE).  His answer is sad, and I like how he doesn't cover it, but closes all discussion completely.

He doesn't try to alter himself to make others happy as Lelianna does, that is true; but that doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't sting to be isolated by the group.  To me, that explains some of his devotion to the PC and the incredibly fast rate at which his approval can go up even without a single gift.  My current playthrough is romancing him, but has only bedded him once and that was after both the poem and the massage offer.  He just hit level 14 and Zev's approval is at +97 without a single gift and I haven't even had the Rinna conversation with him.  It seems to me that he really wants that acceptance, not enough to try to be what he is not, but he wants it.

I can easily see how it could be interpreted as you have described, though.

Edit: lol, I have to bring Lel and Wynne along for that some time, I've never had the heart to so far, though. My mage will probably defile the ashes since she abhors the chantry....

Hehe, it was actually rather interesting going into every conversation wondering how much disapproval she'd get. And giving his special gifts only to get a -10 conversation immediately after...

But that's definitely true about people who say those things expecting him to approve. You really don't have to be nice about everything he says--it's actually more interesting if you're not--and the amount he disapproves for most answers besides the meanest is very little. Usually only ~1-3. I don't know if people take that really seriously or what, but it's hardly an impediment in getting his approval up.

Well, he is kind of isolated by the group in a way, but I do believe he gets accepted eventually. Morrigan, Leliana and Wynne come around, Alistair calls him "Zev", and Oghren also turns into a banter-friend.

It always feels to me that Zevran does get through to Shale in some way as well. However, that's not until later in the game.

However, you are certainly right in his desire to get close to the Warden. He never had a friend, let alone knew what love is/was.

Yes.. it was very sad, needed 2 Zevran tent scenes to recover.

The annoying French girl said nothing about the Ashes, that was quite surprising. After that quest my Warden went to Redcliff, time for the Landsmeet.. Eamon suddenly told me about Alistair being a royal bastard, apparently we didn't have that conversation yet. (oops)

@ejoslin, he looked so cute during the Gauntlet, though cute is not the right word. I actually thought he looked vulnerable and very defensive. Loved his comment about the 'nice vase', good thing I (or actually he) found a fancy vase in a locked chest..

I think it has a lot to do with people expecting Zevran to turn into a groveling, grateful bootlicker, and that he should simply accept being treated like garbage. He should be beating his chest, sceaming "mea culpa" and be full of regrets about his former life.

They want him to be something that he could never be. They don't see that he is serious about protecting the Warden. Lordy, I never forget the time my (silly) mage suddenly realized that he was saving her squishy mage-butt more times than she could count.

Leliena should bring up you defiling the ashes when you get back to camp if you defiled them well actually she doesnt know that you defiled them but she thinks something is wrong

Heh, if someone wants THAT, they're not going to get it from anyone!  Even Alistair has his limits.

And yeh, Zevran is extremely protective.  Not only his battle tactics, but he doesn't take kindly to someone not treating the warden with respect (LOVE him in Redcliff).
