Guys, I have a question. When do you think Zevran had his facial tattoo done? Do you (generally) think it's a dalish- or a crow thing? I myself don't see the dalish putting a needle to a newborn's face, so I suppose it's one he had done to accentuate his facial features... but when?
Because I'm currently drawing an eight-nine-ish year old Zev, and I'm wondering whether or not I should just turn off that layer it's on. :/

IIRC, the Dalish don't tattoo faces at all until coming-of-age. So it's either a Crow/Antivan thing, or something he had done when he briefly ran off to hang out with the Dalish. Probably Antivan/Crow, though, since he talks at one point about other tattoos on him that are sacred to the Crows, etc.

*snip*

Alright, thanks. :3

Anyway, see what I mean?

EDIT: Really? Ah, I suppose Drake isn't for everyone. He was our only pacifist for a while, though, in a game full of ass-kickers and zombies. The poor guy. And one of the only two medic-types for a long time... and then the only one. DX

I <3 the Drake, in all his insecure workaholic silliness. Sanzo was right when he said the guy needs some damn vices, though.

*chuckle* I've read those three books so often they nearly fell apart. Drake got on my nerves so quickly... At least Silverfox had a spine and actually admitted to Firesong he loved him... It took Drake how long to admit it to Winterhart?

I actually found the Winterhart thing to be far too fast. One minute he doesn't like her, the next minute it's Twuu Wuv ™. I like Winterhart, too, but the moment Black Gryphon tries to do romance was the moment I have to skim in my re-reads.

Drake's pretty screwed up in the head, just as much as any Antivan Crow or Saiyuki boy, once you start crawling around in his head.

http://empathic-heal...nal.com/profile is my Amberdrake RP journal, "Scene list" links to most of his scenes... although they are quite old, I warn you. And there is much NSFW in the Sanzo ones. Cough.

You know, I thought, why have one naked elf, when you can have two? And Loghain as well? So now I've slain the archdemon with my naked mage, naked Zevran and naked Loghain. Oghren kept his kit on. I got some lovely pics of Zevran, but probably best not to post them here. I think this is one is probably safe enough (nothing that you wouldn't see on the beach!):

This is seriously awesome!

I suspect Zev got his facial tattoo when he temporarily joined the Dalish. The wiki says:

When a Dalish Elf comes of age, they are marked with intricate tattoos representing one of the elven gods. The tattooing is preceded by meditation on the gods and the ways of the Dalish, and by purifying the body and the skin.

On joining the Dalish he would have been put through a joining/welcome back/cleansing ritual and since he was old enough for a tattoo its easy to see him getting it then.

In his conversation with Leiliana he talks about body markings and says some of his tattoos are sacred to the Crows. He could, of course, just be teasing, especially since that convo is all about trying to get her to check out the tattoos he may have in interesting places.

I'll agree that Drake was pretty f*cked in the head... after what his childhood is described as...  I think the fact that she was writing those three books to give a background to the Mage Winds/Storms trilogies got the best of her and she had to find a way to flesh them out more and kinda shoved those two together. Ah well. My favorite character in the Mage Wars books was Skandranon... and only because he was bloody funny.

I pulled it out of the recesses out of my mind mostly, don't take it as lore... it's an "I think," in the sense that surnames are only meant for nobles and such in Thedas. So no idea how the lower caste Origins have one.

I just liked the parallel of my Brosca being marked with a brand and Zevran being marked as a crow as well, as he goes on about tattoos in other places being sacred to Crows in banter.

In the Banter with Leliana about his facial tattoos, he mentions that he cannot explain what it means, but that it's something to do with being a Crow. He also goes on about how some of the tattoos he has are sacred to the Crows, and other are designed to accentuate the flow of his muscles and such, stating that most of his tattoos aren't visible because of the armor/clothing.

*grins* I played him, too, but after a while Drake just had more to do and Skan faded into NPC status. Him taking over and re-shaping the top story of a downtown apartment building into a lair was pretty awesome, though.

But yeah, Drake was pretty FUBAR'd, and never had a chance to decompress. He went from the Chirurgeon's College to his trek across country, to Silverveil, to Lorshallen, and then almost directly into the ten-year Mage War. The guy never had a chance to get over anything until after the first book. I found him framing himself for murder in the second interesting, and him and Skan busting into the wilderness after their kids was awesome in the third.

Silverblade: *seeing Drake mused and muddy and bleeding and fighting for the very first time in her life* Holy @#$%, Dad is kind of a badass...

But no, not a fan of the Instant Lackey Romance. Winterhart and Drake had more potential than that. "I hate you!" "I hate you too!" *two pages later* "WE ARE MADLY IN LOVE FOREVER."

EDIT: In apology for being so offtopic, here, have my one fanart I did of Amberdrake and Skandranon:

Yeah, Drake never really had a chance... Granted, yes, that was awesome having Blade watch her pacifist father kicking so much arse trying to save her and Tadrith. But the insta-lifebond with him and Winterhart just felt artificial.

I felt so bad for Vanyel! Finds his true love, loses his true love, find his true love again, then ends up stuck in a bunch of trees for a few hundred years till a descendant needs their help to stop the world from going Ka-boom.

Everyone loves Vanyel. XD I like him too, but I've a special spot in my heart for the Kestra'chern. Him being a hot native guy with blue blue eyes doesn't hurt. UNF.

Oh yes, Amberdrake, you can listen to my problems ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. And he totally invented the "Come back to my tent for a massage" line.

EDIT: I'd better be careful or I'll be writing "Zevran goes to Ka'venusho" fanfiction. THIS WOULD BE BAD. Probably.

Zevran: May I rest my head on your broad, firm pectoral muscles? I wish to cry.
Amberdrake: *sigh*

That would NOT be bad at all.

I like Drake, and I'm rather partial to Silverfox.  Vanyel hooked me on the series, though, so I am a little partial to him.  Elsepth is a bit more my speed, even if she doesn't swing my way.

I never really got into her books. The characters crashed in a magical dead zone and had to figure out what caused it before they got killed. I can't remember any more of it, though.
