Alberich may or may not have been one of the original inspirations for Alleyana. Tarma, too.
...Of course, something near fifteen years later she's evolved a bit past original inspirations, but! There you go! Most versions of Alley, she's been Weaponsmaster Alleyana.

The Tarma and Kethry books are what got me reading, and Amberdrake is the only pacifist/Empath/squishy I've ever roleplayed so much. He's terrible fun to throw into dangerous situations... he was seriously Haven's damsel in distress for a while there. XD

:DI loved reading his books. Made me really see him in a different light than how poor Karal saw him initially. Knowing how he was brought up, and how painfully hard it was for him to be Gifted in Karse...*sigh*sami jo wrote...

I had the bad luck to start reading the series with Darian's first book, then kinda went backwards for a while, then hopped around... Needless to say, I have them all, save the anthologies and the Collegium books.

That's what I should be doing right now. Alley's not going to gush copious amounts of blood all by herself! ...Well, okay, maybe she would, at that. But it's less effective if it's not "on camera"!
I also need to read everyone else's fanfics instead of reading a bit of one here and a bit of one there and having seventy billion tabs open "for later". <_< And then I wonder why my browsers hate me so.

Yes, Lackey's books are hit-or-miss. I tried getting a friend to read them, and started her with the first Tarma and Kethry, but she kinda went 'meh'. She's not really into the whole fantasy thing like I am. And some of the plot-holes are big enough for a 747 to fly through... The only really bad Insta-soulmate was Drake/Winterhart. With Vanyel and Tylendel it was Vanyel trying to not fall head over heels for Lendel. He just had the bad luck to finally open himself completely to him all at once....

Actually, I think reposting that picture you put at the top of the page a couple back would be a good idea. That was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Hmmm, but I haven't posted this one in awhile. A still in love Alistair about to kiss Neria goodbye while an in love Zevran watches on.

No, no, Darkwind and Elspeth was much worse. Which is sad, because I'm convinced that Darkwind is reincarnated Amberdrake.
The poor guy. Next time around, I hope he at least gets a cute guy if he's going to keep getting instantly lifebonded.
Edit: But I feel bad that folks are like, wandering away due to the amount of off-topic. See what happens when I join in? First Saiyuki manga spam, then Amberdrake psychoanalysis...

Actually, I don't think Darkwind and Elspeth are lifemates. I think they're just in love. There's a difference. Firesong and Silverfox are in love. Kerowyn and Eldan are lifemates. Selenay and Daren are lifemates. Dirk and Talia are lifemates. Lifemates are like...being bound at the hip. They feel each other. There was never any evidence of that in the Mage Winds books between Darkwind and Elspeth.Aroihkin wrote...

I still can't believe I've written romance-fic, as cynical as I seem to be about it. When everyone else in the room is sighing wistfully over a pair of characters, I'm throwing my popcorn at them.
EDIT 2: It's probably why I like Zev, come to think of it. It takes him a damn long time to figure his own head out, and I always find that a bit more... human, I guess. In the RL sense, not the human-vs-elves-vs-dwarves sense.

If I start talking at you, it's because the rest of this thread right now is zipping over my head. I'm right there with you on the culturally unawares-ness. At least on this.
Edit: Ok so I start to enjoy my work computer being broken, because I've decided it gives me an excuse to slack off and do drawing instead of actual work. So I come up with a drawing I actually want to scan and upload, and what do I remember? Oh yeah, the computer's broken. No scan for me.
