You know, it's an interesting point that someone who cannot stand to see Ruck suffering the way he does would be ok with the molten lava does strike me as a balance issue as well. Zevran and Morrigan seem to have similar approval and disapproval, though Morrigan strikes me as far more selfish and unable to see the bigger picture. However, with Zevran, since he is basically a character who does see the bigger picture and also may be the least selfish of the companions (oddly), if you had his approval always based on what you'd think it was, why would anyone put weight on Alistair's approval? I'm not sure I worded that well.

With Branka, she is mad (and Sten points that out to you, he says to you, "Her excuse is she's mad. What's yours?" I love him much). But you are able to get through to her, and she seeks her own redemption as well. I've only actually saved the anvil twice just to see how Bhelen and Harrowmont treated it.

Well, Zevran only gives a -1, at least that is what I get after using a Persuade on Morrigan.  So really that is not much disapproval.  Morrigan is just ruthlessly practical and values power over almost anything else.  She will always disapprove if you give up a chance to be more powerful, even if it would mean slaughtering your father as a city elf to gain blood magic power.  I DO imagine a camp confrontation after that!  In fact, if I was really playing in character at that point I would probably send her away.  I forgive her because her programmers made her do it.

The trouble with sparing Branka and getting her to destroy the anvil is that nothing in your interaction with her leads you to believe she would ever do that.

I laugh at any one who complains about"accidentally" shagging Zevran I mean really its your own bloody fault if you jump in his pants especially when either you initiate or during the massage talk Zevran ASKS if he can take it further plus there plenty of opportunities as a guy to turn him down before it gets to that

as for Branka and the anvil, call me a bastard but Iv saved the anvil on every playthrough but my first and I have zero regrets doing it (other than the one where I had to kill Shale but thats because I like her)

Hahahaha, yes, no one ends up in that tent accidentally. When Zevran asks if it can go beyond a massage, you DO have to say yes!

yes I was joking

the entire "elves dont count" comes from the fact in alot of fiction male elves tend to look rather feminine or be atleast pretty boys (see warhammer Elves/Eldar as an example)

well considering I actually like Zevran (which surprised me at first since I pretty much hated elves of all kinds unless they where called Viconia and Sand) I dont think it would be fair calling him a woman

I think Zevran actually has quite masculine features. Very chiseled. Definitely not a pretty boy.

I should just be quiet now :3

PS ejoslin I do think Zevran looks somewhat prettyboyish but you can definitely tell hes still a guy (I just wish his hair was shorter)... unlike say Kuja (or 99% of JRPG males in general) from Final fantasy 9 who looks like a flatchested woman in a thong

oh bridget your such the perfect example of this I mean there is a reason people came up with the phrase "everybody is gay for bridget"

its absolutly hilarious showing people a picture of him (which normally follow with a comment about how hot she is) then saying that he is actually a guy

I would have used him as an example but alot more people know about Kuja because hes you know a Final fantasy character

Zevran has the same hair as Arl Eamon. The first thing that comes to mind for Eamon is not exactly "pretty boy"! To me, Zevran is not androgynous in any way, shape or form. He has the same body type as the other elves in the game, plus some considerable muscling and tan which is character-appropriate for his background. So he appreciates good grooming. He's Italian! LOL

I never said he was androgynous I just said he looked slighty prettyboyish

as for the hair comment I just dont like hair that length on guys its personal preference and had nothing to do with the prettyboy comment

I don't usually like guys with long hair either, but Zevrans is nicely tied back and clean. I tend to connect long haired guys with not having good hygeine. haha

As for the anvil, I usually destroy it. My good characters do it because they don't think anyone should be forced to become a golem and it seems like that would definitely happen eventually. My mage just did it simply because she didn't want to ****** off Shale. I hate using Alistair as a tank.

With Oghren, he says himself he understands why Branka had to be killed. She is completely insane and has left his/her entire house behind in her selfish pursuit of the anvil. She allowed all of them to be tortured and murdered. It's been two years since he has seen her, and he had to know that he wasn't going to find her in perfect condition living among the darkspawn.

I actually like the scene with the anvil because I really enjoy the exchange with Zevran.
"How would you like to become a golem?"
"You wouldn't do that, would you?"
"Wouldn't I? If all I cared about was power?"

Which gets the point across pretty well (and is only -1 which can be got back by sleeping with him. haha). It's the truth. Any ruthless person (read pretty much every noble dwarf) would force people to become golems.

Yeah I got that same conversation with Morrigan, and it was nice to throw her little power obsession back at her for once.

And I haven't tried saving the anvil yet. I understand the golems could help the dwarves in their battle against the darkspawn, but I don't know that any of my characters could justifiably see a much better future at the expense of enslaving lives/possible corruption. And having seen the terrible things Branca was willing to do for its power, I think my characters tend to have blinders on regarding the saving graces of the anvil. I'm sure I'll try saving it eventually, though.

I guess part of my thing is I've done more playthroughs than I care to admit (over 10, but under 20 at this point) and you can't play the game the same way every time or else it would be horribly boring. But part of making the not-good decisions is finding reasons and trying to see both sides of the coin so to speak. Like this game, for the first time, I let the dragon cult live. Normally they die and the dragon along with them. But I want to see how this influences Genetivi (whom I sent home) and the pilgrims and the chantry.

There would be no point in making the same decisions every game. It's fun trying to put yourself into a different skin each time!

Edit: And leaving Alistair at the gates when he's hostile is pretty funny.  When he asked why, I told him it was because I didn't like him.  I didn't tell him to ****** off though (another choice) because he was being decent.  He is going to be king, after all.  And it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to talk him into the ritual.

Yeah, this is my 4th playthrough, I think. There are definitely good reasons for making any choice in this game. I even had one playthrough where I decided to explore Redcliffe castle before I went to get the mages to help with the ritual, and ended up being forced to have Isolde kill Connor (since the demon attacked me).

That's the one thing I really like about this game- no decision is cut and dry evil or good. There are no light side/dark side points or paragon/renegade because there can be good/evil rp reasons for everything  you do. I much prefer the grey areas than black and white.

Iv played the game more times than I can count (around 10 so far I think and iv still got a few unfinished ones as well)

even though i do spare the anvil I dont agree with how Branka went about getting it

however considering that the dwarves are in pretty much on the verge of extinction if things keep going the way they are and you hear quite a few times that the Golems where the dwarves salvation(100 years of peace and all that) I felt it was worth the cost even if how they are created is distasteful to say the least and the person in charge of the anvil is just bat**** insane

though as a casteless dwarf I would have gleefully given my mother over to the anvil heaven forbid I absolutely despised her

I agree, there are few choices which are purely evil in the game, or don't have to be.  I'm running a blood mage for the first time and she sees her decision to learn that as a matter of the dire necessity they are forced into.  The darkspawn emissaries are powerful and so are the blood mages and abominations they fight, and she is not always going to have access to lyrium, as per Redcliffe.  Knowing this art might save the world for all she knows.

Your Alistair-hatin' playthrough has me so intrigued.  Hehe.  What does he say when you leave him at the gates?
