Well, I don't think it did my son any harm (Twilight, I mean, as by the time I post this the conversation will probably have moved on). He's always been a voracious reader, and I don't think that everything he reads should have to be 'worthy'. I've read all sorts of stuff myself, including plenty of trashy stuff. I'm told it's full of religious references but that went straight over his head. I used to feel sorry for him because I see a lot more anti-Twilight stuff than pro-Twilight stuff. I felt he was always being told he was wrong for liking it.
He's gone off it now that he's older. I suspect that it appeals a lot to 12 year olds (or thereabouts), particularly the sexless romance aspect (they have romantic feelings but are too young for the sex, so I can see why they might find a necessarily sexless fictional relationship appealing), and I suppose I feel that 12 year olds are too easy targets. (Although I know adults enjoy the books too).
I didn't even want to talk about Twilight! So why do I?
