What's the (Romantic) Appeal of Zevran?

We are now at the Landsmeet, and Alistair has left us. Yes, she did think that RIordan must know things that she does not. She is so very hurt and in pain because she's lost a dear friend.
But Zevran helps her through it. He is her hold, her strength and her love.

heres Alistair getting all flustered when I asked him if he was jealous of me and Zevran

heres Zevrans reaction after I ordered Shale to give the lovable scamp a hug

and heres some banter between Alistair and Zevran during the sacred ashes quest

Been quiet lately cos I have little input on what's going on lately -- I just love this thread. You guys + gals rock. XD
Some questions, though!
1. Okay, when Zevran is at the romance level where he says "What is your desire?", and you want to ask him some questions, what is his usual reply?
To my male human mage, Zevran says something like "All right, but I consider this pillow talk." I've never heard that line before this! He certainly never said it to my male elf (And I'm pretty sure it's not a mod issue because he never said that to my elf on the PS3, either...). What does he say to others?
2. And this is an opinion question... Not that there ever is a good time or way to break up with Zevran, but if I have to do it... should my mage break it off before Morrigan forces him to (ugh, I know.. ;D), or wait for the inevitable talk?![]()
Story-wise, I think my mage can see that Zevran wants more than a casual fling, despite whatever he says, but he himself does not, so I could see him trying to head that off before it gets more complicated... (Whereas Morrigan is constantly denying that she wants an emotional attachment, and her general ****iness seems to hold true to that.
1. You get that answer if you're below adore but sleeping with him. Otherwise it's, "Ok, but I get to stare at you luridly while you do so."
2> I can't break it off with him, ever. I have trouble not starting it up with him at all.
Edit: When he's at 71+, he responds "Can I respond in poetry? No? How sad."
Second edit: I love the Zevran + Shale conversations. You really see a far warmer side to him, the part of him that treasures the joys of life. It really shows someone who can appreciate the good that life has to offer, while accepting the bad as part of it.

If you sacrifice yourself, he returns to the crows no matter what.
Yes, for some reason I always considered the endings where he returned to the Crows to be the worst of them. Even worse than killing him in the beginning, I think. It's just the thought that he had that one chance to escape, and he relied on the Warden so much to help him do so, yet he is unable to in the end. Watching him change and grow, then seeing him end up back in the same terrible place, ugh! I just can't bear it!
And being a Cousland does suck way more than I expected. Wow, I thought I could make my girl heartless and self-centered, and she's turning out sooo differently than that. She's conflicted. There's this whole world out there full of beggars and thieves and peasants and people she doesn't care about. She'd love to just ignore them and focus on the bigger things in question, but she has duty to live up to. She has her father's dying wish that she do everything she can to save the kingdom still fresh in her mind. She's even going out of her way to try and save both Connor and Isolde because she still sees her sister-in-law and nephew lying in a pool of blood. It's haunting her. She's going to end up unromanced, on the throne in a completely political marriage, running the country despite wanting freedom, because she knows she's needed for the job.
And I still don't know what to do about Zevran. I'm trying to make excuses to not kill him, but will it really be nicer in the end if I don't romance him? He'll just end up back with the Crows, right?
Ack, one last question: I didn't take Alistair with me to Redcliffe for his heir to the throne announcement (I went to Redcliffe first and it seemed too early for it). She's going to go to the Urn very quickly to revive Arl Eamon, but is it a bad thing that she doesn't know about Alistair?

he only ends up with the crows if you die
otherwise you can ask him to stick around during the epilogue

I think it's interesting -- and it gives deeper meaning to the "why didn't you tell me about your birthright" conversation.
I've done (ugh) five or six Cousland run throughs, and have always made her queen over Anora. And all but once stayed with Zevran; the other time she and Alistair were romanced and his reaction to their engagement is exactly the same either way. She even tells Iona at the start how attractive she finds elves (but Iona NEVER bites -- poor Dairrin just gets the Cousland, not both).
My next play through I think will be a male Cousland who will end up king. I have no clue about anything else, but since I love playing the noble it makes sense. It will be a very different feeling game. I did one other male play through, but seriously rushed it. This time I'll take my time.

Thanks for the info. I think it's kind of interesting playing it this way for once. Currently, she really couldn't care about Alistair- he's so immature and weak as a leader. So she hasn't really seen a need to bring him along with her. (Although, I admit, I switched him into the party before talking to Teagann because otherwise Teagann doesn't recognize you as noble.)
The first time I tried playing her she had Alistair at -30 something just out of Lothering. This time around, somehow, she's managed to keep him hovering around 0 the whole time. I don't really get it, either, since it's not like she's really nice to him. I swear, there have been times she's been rude yet he still gains approval... Weird...

This, after she had broken up with Alistair and was so depressed about it all that she had availed herself of The Pearl (Oghren approves +4, LOL), and shortly afterward the Maker continued to punish her since Alistair responded "my love" when clicked on. So, Zevran being free and yet staying with her made both HNF and her player sooo happy. Morrigan might get her wish after all. Sorry, Dad- Couslands do always do their duty, but sometimes they decide to do it later.

Only my Dalish and City elves have spared Zevran to be merciful. My human noble female did it to spite Loghain. She took Zevran with her to the Landsmeet so she could say, "See, I'm so awesome you can't even pay people to kill me." /smug
What are some of the things Zevran says when you switch to him during exploration or combat? I know Alistair has this really pissy "What?!" when your approval with him is low, but I never switch to other characters so I've never heard any of Zev's lines...

Yes, my city elf constantly wants to smack him. It's not helping her find the incentive to make him happy and raise his approval.UnDutchable wrote...

Aha, that would do it. I always thought you got that poetry comment only after he offered you the poem (I think that's when he hits Adore?), but that just happened to be the order it happened with my elf, so... XDejoslin wrote...

Hmm, in retrospect, not the proper place to be asking about breaking up with Zevran, eh?
Story-wise, this PC is more than happy to sleep with whomever, but he doesn't feel very comfortable with the idea of romance, especially in the day-to-day perils the group faces. And as much as I personally love Zev as a character, I don't see a reason this PC would fall for him. Friends, sure, even close ones, but more than that... meh. The more I think about it, the more it seems PC would break it off as soon as he realizes Zevran is after more than some extracurricular activity (even if Zevran won't admit it/doesn't realize it

I love that romance. He grows so much during it. She does as well. I love how in the end, he doesn't mind anything unless it concerns her Screw all the GW crapola. As long as he can be with her, and even die for her, he's content.

I think the first time I heard that "What?!", I went to check my approval meter, because Alistair sounded so pissed! Jerk, you want me in charge, don't answer me like that! <_<
Anyway, I actually have a hard time getting the characters to say anything when I click on them -- it seem like 1 in 5 or less when they respond oO I think Zevran goes "Hmmm?" sometimes, and at love, of course, you get "Si, amora?"

infact this playthrough is gonna have him marry Anora because it would continue the family line and he feels he can do much good for the country on the throne and despite Anoras "wishes" he wont let her side line him or let her get away with blue murder
he also thinks Alistair would be a terrible king so thats out of the question despite Eamons wishes

As for Zevran, metagame-wise I know she'd be happy with him eventually if I feed Alistair to the archdemon. She would not be good company for awhile, though, if Alistair were dead, the Calenhad line ended, and nothing for her to do but restore the Grey Wardens (which is not something she wanted to be anyway). Of course, Zevran is just the person who could teach her to find happiness again despite all that.

It'll be sad to not be romancing him. But hey, friendship dialogues will be interesting, right?

You're right, the poetry answer is once he hits adore -- which is when he gives his poetry reading.
I think you'll be surprised at how much of what he says is friendship talk, not love talk. He is very much just as loyal as a friend. But ugh, I hate games where I'm not romancing him. I'm currently debating when to end the Alistair romance. Ali is at 100 adore, soon to be love, Zevran is at 34 warm. I may wait until he's in the 80s or 90s to turn on the romance, but I also like the cheap sex aspect with him.
