Is anyone here surprised that none of us are lawful anything? :P

I think I'm mostly lawful good, but maybe no one's tried me high enough yet.

When I was younger I was definitely lawful good.  I was wound way too tight.  As I've gotten older, I've shifted some.  I think the quiz pegged me as neutral because while I don't ignore the law, I would not follow a law I thought was injust and I won't follow the rules just because they are the rules.  For example, I wore blue to my wedding.  I wore a dress solely because it was comfortable, and I really didn't give two hoots about the propriety of it all.  In other words, I have very low tolerance for the impractical and none at all for hopping through hoops.

Edit: Screenies!

I think it's the toolset that said 24? I could be wrong though, I don't even know where to look these things up. XD

I think a bunch of us concluded at one time that he's in his mid-late 20s, regardless of what the toolset says. :P

Agree.

As I was taking Daiya (CE Warrior) through "Rescue the Queen" yesterday, I kept flashing back to the origin of her in her wedding dress, and wearing the ring that Nelaros made. And I guess I was really immersed this time around, because I felt anxious, rushed, fearful, and unsettled like my PC was reliving the event all over again.

I had Zevran in my party of course. But as I paused the game to go pee, I thought of Zevran noticing the CE's discomfort.

I apologize in advance if its bad, I imagine conversations better in my head, then actually writing them out. It's why I can't start a fiction><.

Arl Howes (Formerly Vaughn's)
(Pc is disguised as is the rest of her party)

Zevran: *lightly touches Daiya's shoulderand speaks softly* Amora, are you well?
Daiya: *turns her head towards him* I..I thought that I could handle this better.
Zevran: May I ask what is it that you are not handling? Besides me, at the moment?*tries to lighten the mood*
Daiya: Being here again. After all this time, I thought I conquered my nightmares of this place.
Zevran: You have been here before? *gently*
Daiya: *nods* Once upon a time, when in one day my dreams turned to nightmares, I failed my sister, and I faced my first monster.
*wraps her arms around herself*
But we are chasing another monster now, and I can't help but feel like I am reliving the nightmare.
Zevran:*lifts a gloved hand to her cheek, and lightly brushes the back of his fingers slowly against her cheek* I know not what happened here, and I will not push you. But I promise you this, I will be there, should you need me to chase your nightmares and slay your monsters. *voice drops to a thick whisper* I swear it.

That took entirely too long for me to write :(

That's wonderfully well-written, and I can see that conversation actually happening.

Agreed on the conversation... very sweet :P Though Im not as fond of the "scrolls" (or, at least thats what my bff when I was a little kid called it when we RPd in such a format) way of writing (now that I think of it, i could have just said screenplay...), that was well put.

But really? Early, mid-twenties? Zevran always struck me as being early-mid thirties.

EDIT: Actually... what does the toolset say of his age? Im guessing... 36.

Thank you! I know, I hate them myself. But if I did it in fic format, I would have been at it all night trying to "get it right" in my eyes. I am my own worse enemy I swear.:pinched:

*is blushing really badly right now* Thank you Sadi, Jenovan, and Aro! I wish I could start a damned story, but I always balk at how to start it. Dialogue isn't so bad. I only have one fic published, it was a Naruto Ficlet I put out like 5 years ago, please stop looking at me like that @ ff.net.

I usually think of Zevran somewhere between 27 and 32.

I actually have obsessively specific ideas on all the characters' ages, including various PC wardens.

LOL.

I suppose the life he lives would make him look a lot older... but that seems a little too dramatically young.

After all, isnt Alistair listed as being 32? That does not make sense to me at all. xD

OH! Do you happen to know Leliana and Morrigans ages?

I believe Alistair was originally slated to be in his thirties, but that was changed during developement because it didn't fit with how they were writing the character.

@Juneya: Gaider has confirmed that Alistair's age is incorrect in the toolset. It was based on the original concept that was changed during development. I haven't seen him comment on Zev's age, but given how young he began his training, I don't see 24 as being that young for him. I would imagine that he would have had his first assignment as young as 15 or so. If he were much older than 24 it seems that he would have been too experienced and hardened.

This.  24 sounds perfectly reasonable to me, because he is, of course, going to act and look a little older than he is because of the life he's led.  And if the Crows bought him at 7, then I doubt they waited ten years before they started putting his skills to use.  Compare him to Locke Lamora, for a moment.  I can't recall Locke's age and don't have the book on hand right now, but he's at the oldest mid twenties in the first book (I believe he's around 27 in the second).  24 isn't unreasonable at all.

In fact, I would argue against placing him much older than 27.  There's no naivete left in him, but Zevran is still young and vulnerable in many ways, easily read in his behavior.

Not that anyone is asking, but here's generally the ages I think of the characters as:

Alistair: somewhere between 18-22.

Zevran: 27-32

Morrigan: 19-22 (I think of her as basically the same age as Alistair, MAYBE a year older than him, and lording that 1 year over him very smugly)

Leliana: 28-30

Oghren: 40s

Wynne: 65-75

Sten: Undefinable. I mean really, who knows?

HN PC: 23-26

CE/DE/Mage PC: 19-21

ND: 30-35

CD: 20-25

...This is what happens when you have 3 hours where you have to be at work but don't have anything to do. I've created little soap operas for all of them too.

... I can't wait until my new job starts.

Right.  I wouldn't see him as any younger than 23-24, though... I think he has seen and done a lot, even if he started running around at 14-15 or so (which is about when I imagine he could begin working..).  But no, I don't think I'd put him past 27-28, either, for the reasons you've said better than I could.

LOL, for all my faults back then I wasn't wapanese. I didn't try to mix random Japanese into my writing or anything, I just liked the characters. Especially during the war.

My main problem, other than not having much of a writing style yet at the time, was in thinking that having like sixty freaking sub-plots going all at once was great. And I was experimenting at the time with just tossing the skeleton of the story online and then going back later and filling it out... which became impossible when it hit a certain length as a skeleton and needed revisions to the plot and and and--

So yeah. It's not my finest work. XD Other stories I did at around the same time are much more respectable, but Bloodstained Steel remains online mostly because I'm a review-ho. I could probably take it down now, since TAF as a collection long ago hit 300 reviews. But... but... seeing 300+ next to a story title is preeeetty. *review-ho*

I'm actually agreeing pretty strongly with this. Life experience =/= age. I'm a cynical bastage and I've spewed TMI all over the thread about some of the crap I've gone through, and I'm probably younger than folks expect.

Zevran still has some shiny to him, and he's totally clueless about most of life outside of his narrow (and horrific) experiences.

Hmm. Ahh, that makes sense. Now that I think about it, when the ages are compared to the concept art, they seem much more fitting... Zevran, a young and flambouyant male assassin, and Alistair the older and stoic templar. :D

No, they changed the name. But Surreal and sami DO make a good point. His life has been hard. Also, I think a lot of the lines in his face are actually scars.

It's kind of sad to think someone that young would seem so much older. But it does make sense.

No, they changed the name. But Surreal and sami DO make a good point. His life has been hard. Also, I think a lot of the lines in his face are actually scars.

It's kind of sad to think someone that young would seem so much older. But it does make sense.

Really? I'd think he/the Crows would take pains to not scar his face up too much.

I always figured they were just lines, there's a distinctive worry-line between his eyebrows off to one side, even. His forehead, I figured was as much UV exposure (he's from a "glittering gem amidst the sands", after all, Antiva sounds desert) as anything, on top of any normal reasons. Get blasted by the sun enough, and your face ages faster.

New opinions are always good.  Welcome to the madness.

I would agree with your ages for Alistair and Morigan, and maybe even Lel.  I think the others are a little old.  That would put Zev close to my age, and he is definitely written as younger than that.  I didn't have the easiest time for a while, but it was nothing compared to his life and I would still put him well younger than I am.  I would put Oghren in his mid-30's, though I could be convinced otherwise.  Wynne doesn't seem quite that old. Unless humans live a good deal longer in Ferelden than they do here (which would be odd for a midieval setting), she is awfully spry to be in her 70s. I would also put the mage a bit younger depending on how it is RPd, and same for the dwarven origins.  The elven ones would depend a bit on how elves age.  We know they have longer lifespans, but there isn't much info on when they are physically mature.

Inserted for snickers after that wall of text.  It is wise to turn off your AW abilities before hooking up with Zev.

Could be.  Some of those lines seem awfully deep though.  But you are right, Antiva does sound like a desert.

LOL!
OR when a Party Member (Alistair<_<) is standing right on top of you both. That's always a fun bug.

*Inspired. Not the same, of course, because that would be a little odd.

But the Qara'unas were a dark-skinned group set apart from the Mongols. They settled near India, which is commonly associated with prosperity, particularly in the spice trade, and also has a range of exotic game living in it's jungles. The Mongols adopted a 'code' or 'religion' (the name I am blanking on now) that they lived by as a way of life. Not to mention that like the Qunari, they wished to spread their empire across other nations.

I'm not saying that Bioware was lazy and made a carbon copy of the Qara'unas and changed the name to Qunari. But to create a world so vast, inspiration needs to be gathered from somewhere. I just always love finding the inspiration that hits closest to home.
