I doubt it rains as much in Antiva as it does in Ferelden, since Ferelden's rain and mud (and dogs) is how it gets described. He mentions "In Antiva it rains often, but the flowers are always in bloom... or so the saying goes." as a saying, but also says "It is a glittering gem amidst the sand, my Antiva City." which is what made me think of a desert.

That and the idea that the leather-making part of the city is supposed reek so bad, all the damn time. Lots of rain would make that part of town stink less, I'd think?

But I dunno. :D My impressions are not in the least bit set in stone!

Humidity causes scents to linger more in the air. Even if it does rain a little every day, the lingering humidity would cause the stench to simply be worse.

Hm, good point. All depends on the kind of rain, I'd suppose. A good downpour seems to wipe things out briefly, to me, and it certainly at least makes the city less chemically for a brief time... but it might not be a good proper rain that they get. And if it's always humid... yeah.

Edit: Not Zev-specific, but it made me lol. Alley's meeting with the king went something like this.

Oh, city elves.

This^. I've been to Venice, gorgeous as you imagined but smells like a rancid pond.

*noddles* I live in a spot that is either comfortably dry or unbearibly humid at times. Just down the street is a waste disposal center(waste as in sewage....). On those dry days, you don't know it's there. But when it's humid, OH MY GOD.....

Nah, if it would be like Brazil there would probably be jungles, which there isn't if the map is anything to go by.

::wades in with a huge drunken geography boner::

If Antiva City is anything like Venice, as I've seen Gaider imply somewhere, the humidity could all be a coastal thing. I imagine the Antiva interior to be very like the Spanish interior, arid plains and such. That presents a very romantic image but a hard reality, and fits all the official descriptions we've seen of Antiva very neatly. Or one could even compare it to Morocco, if you're going to take the 'sands' comment more seriously--humid coast, arid plains >various types of desert. I can't imagine much erg, though, for some reason.

I'mma crawl back in my hole now that I've made a nerd of myself.

If I don't go back in my hole, I'll get out my geography desk reference, get into an argument with Gaider when he shows up about why he's wrong about his setting and asdf about the geography, resulting in me having a wet nerdgasm all over this thread and alienating a bunch of people.

I think I'll crawl back in my hole, thanks.

.....Wow. Never thought of Morocco. Well, if/when I get an answer from Mr. Gaider, we'll see :)

Dude, that's awesome. I think we're all used to creators being all aloof and unreachable and... stuff.
This makes Gaider a superhero.

Hey, you do that and I'll yell at him for having elf/human offspring be fully human.

I figured out a horrible science-y explanation:

Epigenetics.  Elf DNA is the same as human DNA, but it's been modified by chemical tags so the cell can tell it came from an elf (right after you're conceived the DNA from your mom and dad is similarly tagged so your cells know which parent it came from, these tags are erased during development).  There's some mechanism for sensing whether both sets of chromosomes are elf-derived or not.  If not, the tags on the DNA from the elf get removed and the offspring is human.  If so, both sets of DNA stay tagged, certain genes are turned on, and the offspring grows up with characteristic elf features.

Of course this is all completely pointless except for rescuing me from constantly asking, "WHY??  WHY???"

I bet he answers you.

And that is King Cailan. *grin* I loved telling him that

Edit: the more I watch that video, the more I like the grope.  I have no clue how Charsen pulled that off making it look sweet, not sleazy.
