I'm discovering some new (to me) Zevran dialogue, since I'm playing my Dalish character as a bit condescending to him. I had always assumed he would resent the more "aww, you've suffered so much" responses, but he actually responds pretty well to them. When she said "I'm so sorry for you Zevran," he called her compassionate as well as beautiful. I don't know why this surprises me- I expected him to be annoyed at someone feeling sorry for him or something.
I felt compelled to respond to this, even though it's from yesterday...
I think Zev approves of the sympathetic responses because he doesn't expect them; I doubt anyone else has offered him sympathy before. He seems to take it as genuine sympathy, and not that the Warden is talking down to him or just pitying him.
I agree with Senor. If you recall how the Crows are trained, torture, starvation, solitary confinement etc. He would have had no kind of sympathy directed at him. It would have been considered detrimental in his training, IMO. How he learned to recognize it well, that could be up for debate. Indifference he would be used to, spite and hate, most definately along with lust considering what he hinted not so subtlely at when you ask him about his experience with women.
...Ok ignore me, I had a point about him knowing only the joys of physical pleasure compared to emotional until he met Rinna, but I lost my train of thought as I kept thinking about "The Princess Bride". IGNORE ME!
As you wish.
...No, not really, but I couldn't help that line.

And I totally didn't even see that yesterday. ><
But for what it's worth, I agree with you guys. Plus he seems to realize that the Warden is pretty messed up themself, whatever the origin. It's always different when it's from one @#$%ed up person to another, and also far less likely to be fake. Besides, what would be the point in buttering him up? The Warden doesn't
need anything from him, if anything it's the opposite.
Hell, it might be a relief if the Warden is sympathetic, haha. On top of unexpected and all that other good stuff. They're literally his lifeline!
