It looks almost as if they knew people were going to play the Landsmeet naked so they made sure Loghain would cover things up. No way they placed him there by accident. >.>

Hahaha, yes.  Yeees, and this is also why I decided not to lurk anymore. If there's only ten consistent posters, they go back and say: maniacs. LOL, I've meant to point that out but always forgot. Zev is such a riot delivering those notifications, DANG. The other line is even better. "Your husband? Dead. Terrible/horrible thing, really." The last part I'm not sure on, but the first... has me rolling over the floor. My mother is tired of having me burst into the living room, repeating lines in english and then running back out cackling with no explanation. Or so she thinks. In reality, once I move back out in August she's gonna be bored to death.

I hate my game. ;;

It is seriously bugged, from Zevran I get the wrong line when my mage Warden gets arrested and when I choose Zevran and another companion to free me, only Zevran shows up. First I thought it might be a approval thing, but even dog isn't showing up when I select him and Zevran.

One of the few writers I honestly can't stand. I read Tigana and I think part of my brain melted during it. I will never pick up another book by him.

I must admit I am with you on this. Also read Tigana - it has two or three very good scenes, but otherwise it's quite medicore fantasy, nothing mind blowing. I am not at all impressed and I wouldn't read any other. Maybe I've read wrong book, or I've read to much fantasy, dunno.

:crying:
I was alluding to Tigana of course, but this makes me sad.  I think I shall cry.
Not my favorite of his, by far, but his other historical-fantasy type things have a similar feel to them, I suppose?  The first one I read was The Lions of Al-Rassan, which was a.. tighter story, I think.  I dunno, I think I like him much more for his wordcrafting than the plots.   I'm a bit strange that way.

Zevran, on topic: Do you suppose he reads? He does in my story, not quite the scholar my mage is but I could picture him picking up books to read (not all the dirty kind, either). I suppose that might be because I don't want him to be bored out of his mind when I'm reading, so there's shared moments even if the book topics are different. I don't know if I picture the Crows being the artful educators the Orlesian bard corp are though, but I do think he's more than passingly literate. I could also picture him publishing a scandalous book of poetry if he stays in Denerim. The kind that the young noblemwomen read to one another and giggle over during their sewing circles.

I could certainly see him reading to pass the time every so often, although I'm not sure of what, everyone has some good thoughts on this point already.  Listening to him speak, he seems very well-educated, which, as others have mentioned, would be of use for an assassin going after nobles and other members of high society.  Actually, I always thought it was a little odd that the poem is the only poem he knows.  Really?  Or did his educators just not waste time on that sort of thing?  Hmm...

Maybe I just like the mental image of Zevran sitting somewhere reading, though.

*I see not rason why they wouldn't, after all contracts are bid on not assigned.

Dragon Age Wiki as some nice information.

Crows of Antiva

The Crows of Antiva are an elite organization of thieves and assassins which are renowned throughout Thedas. Through their deadly reputation and exotic poisons, the Crows practically rule their homeland. It is possible for the Warden to work for the crows, with quests given by Master Ignacio. The Antivan Crows are a driving political force in Antiva, often hired to assassinate Antivan nobility and even royalty. The Crows usually employ elves because humans often find them attractive, giving them an advantage over their target. They train their recruits from a young age, and have no problem killing them if they make a mistake. It seems to be an effective method, though they would have everyone believe it takes some special skill to do what they do. Zevran implies the Crows are an important part of Antivan society as a whole. The Antivan Crows buy orphaned or enslaved elves and humans when they are children and force them to live together in tight quarters. The only way they can survive the brutal process and prove themselves worthy is by surviving every test the Crows throw at them, including killing their peers. This history will come to light though conversations with Zevran over the Crows and his training as an
assassin. If the Warden decides to spare Zevran and keep him in the party, he/she can unlock the assassin specialization for rogues, depending on how much admiration Zevran has for the player.

Antiva

Antiva is a nation in Thedas. Its capital is Antiva City, which lies on in the middle of its coastline. The line of kings in Antiva has remained unbroken for two and a half thousand years. In truth, however, the nation is ruled by a collection of merchant princes such as heads of banks, trading companies, and vineyards. As Antiva is well-known to be good at everything but fighting, it is ironic that the world's deadliest assassins, the Crows of Antiva, originate here. No general would be mad enough to lead an attack on the Antivan borders, for while they would surely succeed due to the fact Antiva has no standing army, the general would likely be assassinated by the Crows.

Women have strictly defined roles in Antiva. They are considered pure and delicate and not allowed to participate in combat, among other things.

The Steel Age derived its name from when a Queen of Antiva was found murdered, impaled upon four swords.

Trivia

    * Antivans, particularly Zevran, speak with a strong Spanish accent. On the other hand, Antivan society is a fictionalized version of a medieval Italian city-state like Venice.

   1.  This is what David Gaider said on Bioware's forums:

"Yes, Antiva is a fictionalized version of a medieval Italian city-state like Venice. It's not a perfect comparison by any means, but then none of the Thedas nations are meant to be.

*Edit* I hate this forums "formatting"...:pinched:

I don't know.  I suppose children wouldn't usually be much of a threat to power, so wouldn't usually need to be killed.   I get confused with the talk about Antiva - when Zevran is talking of 'princes', he means merchant princes, doesn't he, not royals?   So when somebody assassinates their way to the top, it's not quite the same as a royal killing of those closer in line for the throne, as it's not about inheritance (which is what I first thought when he first told the prince story)?   If it was about inheritance, then occasionally it might be 'necessary' to assassinate children.   If not, then I don't see why they would be a threat.  Zevran does mention inheritance at one point, I think, when he talks about someone inheriting a Crow cell.   So maybe it works the same way as royalty, with bankers, for instance, passing their business to their families.   If that's the case, a poorer relative could arrange for those next in line to be assassinated, and that would probably have to include children if they were in the way.   Or would it?  I am asking more questions than I'm answering here, because I don't know the answers!

I'm not sure how much political power they have.  I got the impression that the place is run by the merchant princes, and that they pay the Crows - it's protection money I suppose (the Crows as a sort of Mafia?).   I imagine those with the money have the power because they can buy the most protection.  The most wealthy are the most powerful politically.

But I may be wrong about all of this!

I'm not sure if children would be the target of assassinations very often, but they could certainly be used for blackmail purposes.

Prince Azrin was royalty and he inherited three Crow cells from his grandfather, if I recall correctly. Zevran mentions that Antivan royalty is completely entangled with the Crows, despite the fact that the King of Antiva doesn't appear to have a lot of power. So the merchant princes are the de facto rulers of the country, but the royals still have the ability to bite back if necessary.

I'm also curious about how exactly the Crows work as a guild. I mean, Zevran mentions several instances where the Crows' main opponents are Crows from other cells. Aren't they basically eating themselves from the inside out?

Edit: Zevran also says that the Crows once murdered an entire noble family, so I'm assuming that included the children. This was when the entire house of Crows was hired, wasn't it? So how many Crows are there, anyway? And how big was this family that they needed an entire assassin's guild to come after them? And wouldn't there be Crows who were working for others at that moment? Would they just ignore their employer to go after this family?

Could you get any more information out of Master Ignacio? In the toolset at least. Wasn't one of the disguised Crows a female one? Or was he just a drag queen dropping female noble clothing?

I've sort of stolen the idea  from the Kushiel* series for my fic that all the guilds specialising in certain things, and that they all pretty much hate each other.

*Sort of dire series of books, to be honest. Don't bother, the main character is irritating as feck, but the world the author created is rich and engaging. Go figure.
