I believe the moment I decided to romance Zevran was....well, one of the first few battles after I got him. As luck would have it, I was playing a male warden on his way towards a slow-burn 'friendship-->romance' route of sorts with Morrigan, so Alistair was out of the question, although I wasn't expecting to do the Zevran romance until my third run-through or so.



Then in that battle---a very standard 'miniquests! put your new party members to the test!' thing---Zevran did what his default tactics does and ran to obliterate a nearly dead genlock that happened to be running toward squishy mage PC, whereas Alistair and Leliana were being clobbered to death by the remaining hurlocks he left behind. (The genlock was really nearly dead----a staff projectile could finish him off.) When the battle ended, the proximity between PC and Zevran caused the engine to make them look at each other....you know, in the way that would've cued romantic music and a "Zevran...." "Warden...." script, were it a movie. While Leliana was clutching her torn jugular and Alistair was coughing up blood in the background.



I lol'd. PC was weirdly flattered. I'm sure you have all seen this kind of awesome coincidences, too. And after lol'ing even more in the camp after the first few conversations (I inadvertently picked 'so what do you fancy', ah, the wonders of avoiding spoilers), never really looked back to the other romance options except to see everything the game has to offer. He really is one of the very few companions who really worry about the stress the Warden's under, and it makes me sad that much of the internet and even the in-game achievement labels him as something of a shallow douche. Imagine my squee when I happened to land upon this thread, especially since I gave up on forums long ago.



So thank you, all, for being a fanperson enabler. It was awesome reading...er, skimming...through this thread, all 800-something pages of it. (I have no life, no.)



And now I'll go back to lurking and leave you to the highly entertaining picture posts. Zev's rather worth picture-posting, isn't he?

Zevran's romance really is quite a surprise. His creator liked him a lot, though. I think he deliberately made Zevran a character you have to get to know rather than have him be all likable up front.

Zev's default tactics are indeed very cute, what with the way he goes running to help the Warden. And LOL about the music... he totally stares at the Warden like you're suggesting, though. Sabriana has an awesome picture that she posts sometimes of her Warden and Zev standing on a pile of corpses staring at each other like that.

And his achievement title made me sad too. lol.

But as you said, he does notice the stress the Warden is under, and seems to be the only companion that doesn't really burden them. (And of course, he also tries to cheer them up with the hilarious poetry reading. Silly Zev.)

*waves to webbedfeet* Welcome! Loved the anecdote! I think a lot of us have squee'd over Zevran's staring and/or protectiveness at least once. I even came into the game knowing I wanted to try to romance the elf, and I was *still* surprised (pleasantly!) by the depth of his character.
