I am REALLY REALLY REALLY MAD right now. Some modder is putting out a bug fix, comprehensive, which is good. I skimmed over the thread, offered my help as I do as ZDF is an open project, offered to help him yadada.

Then I read the thread more carefully. For his next "update" he has basically read my list of fixes for ZDF and corrected them himself. The fixes are good, and need to be done (obviously) but I feel like the past month of work I put in is about to go bye bye.

ZDF is open, b2bs are available for everyone. That won't change. I'll even keep my b2b available up for him (Qwinn1234) but this is seriously upsetting to me. And I'm not sure why! But GAH!

Edit: This seriously is making me wonder why I even bothered.  I know I don't own any of this stuff, but omg.

Why would somebody do that?  Why not contact you first and suggest a collaboration?  Is he/she deliberately trying to cause trouble?   I'm not surprised that you're upset.   Even if he hadn't realised what he was doing, you'd think he'd understand once you offered to help, and credit you at least, or list it as a collaboration.  I hope there's some way to let people know that this was your work originally.

His won't be as good without the kisses, anyway.

I've been making spritz like mad this week. There used to be this German bakery in my home town that made what they called Swedish spritz, two spritz cookies sandwiched with a thin chocolate butter cream and one end dipped in an orange flavored chocolate. I think I was finally able to recreate the spritz they used by modifying a sandbakkelse (sand tarts) recipe I had from an old cookbook.

Thanks! Hopefully it will work out. *daydreams of leaving the corporate rat race for her own rat race*

ooh, I like those kisses.

And ANY mod that fixes the Zev bugs/omissions won't be worth having without kisses.

Speaking of which, must get updated mod.

Nonvita: If you're in Wyoming, sure!I already know I need employees (and the surly co-eds they have working there now won't do) and I need to find a caterer to rent out the back part of the kitchen to. But we'll see, i have an aco****ant looking over the business information to see if it's doable. He wants to sell the business with the building it's in, but I don't want the building. It's old and has apartments...who wants to run a bakery AND be a landlord?

Seriously, no matter what that guy puts in his fix, I'm sticking with Ej's/Charsen's. It's not even just out of sheer devotion to them, but also the fact that I love the way they handled things and I doubt the other guy would do all the little details they did.

And sure, why not! Lol if all my other nonexistent plans fall through I don't see any reason not to head over to Wyoming. And good luck with it! Starting a business is a huge endeavor, so I wish you the best!

Also I think you misspelled 'accountant' by a letter. XD

Hmmm, was wondering why it ***** out accountant. Now I know!

just downloaded the 1.02a patch, so I'm going to reinstall that and get rid of the 1.03 patch since i don't have Awakenings. I'm getting so many graphic glitches in the games...latest one was Alistair doing the 'Super-end Ogre jump stab kill' to my HNF in the deep roads (there was no Ogre around) and she just stood there looking around while he was stabbing her in the head.

Good morning all! I'm feeling a lot better after sleeping, and I want to thank everyone again for their support!

I actually think his project is a good one. A major bugfix patch -- most people win. And he is probably going to do a better job than I did in many areas.

At least I will get some credit. And while last night I was wondering why I even bothered, I know EXACTLY why I did. So people could enjoy the game more, enjoy Zevran more (oh yeh, ESPECIALLY this) and if Qwinn1234's patch gives people that, then it's good!

And had I not bothered, his patch wouldn't include those fixes either. And then everyone loses. There's nothing unique about my mod, and if someone can do those fixes better, and cover even more than I fix, then yes, it ultimately is a good thing!

Edit: ZDF won't be made obsolete yet!  Though he dismissed a lot of the fixes I made as "too easy" or "too obvious" there are still many fixes to be made.  *grin* At least I won't have the evil which is Alistair bugs haunting my sleep!

Second edit: I think what is most frustrating to me about this is if I HADN'T done ZDF, these bugs wouldn't be fixed by anyone.  The time was well spent, no matter what happens.  But it certainly would have been better for ME had I just sent him a list!  HOWEVER, I did learn a lot, and that is NEVER a bad thing!

Gah, :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:

Edit: consolidating posts!

EJ: The funny thing is that he seems to have absolutely no idea what it is you fixed. Thus my repeated, and repeatedly ignored, calls for him to actually contact the mod authors from which he is gleaning his information. I'm not sure why he feels the need to fix everything himself aside from wanting all the credit.

I think that's exactly it.  I think he's going to end up missing smaller fixes, and not realize it, because those types of fixes I didn't really enumerate.  "When marrying Alistair for political reasons, he will now give appropriate responses to a friendly/warm warden" is not an obvious fix, though it makes a game play difference.

My initial reaction yesterday was, WTF?  WHY are you doing this?  Why did I bother with what I did?

I do think a large patch like this is a good thing.  I also think, however, that it is too soon after DAO was released, and it will end up harming everyone in the future, including the maker of said big patches.  I probably will never take on a project like this again on future games.  It was a lot of fun, but very time consuming.

But I keep thinking, Zevran at the gates for more people?  Fabulous!

Edit: Was this coherent?  Probably not.  Need more coffee.

That's good ejoslin, I appreciate yours and others work on the various fixes. But the saddest part is that you are actually doing Bioware's job via mods :/

Anyway Zevran gate covo fix with Charsen's epic kisses is all I really need, haha :3

ANYWAY!

Hmmmmm, I suppose I will do some Zevran squee, since I haven't for awhile.  It may be recycled squee, but squee nonetheless.

My second playthrough, I decided to have a character who was having a casual fling with Zevran.  There was no room for love or whatever when there was a blight to be defeated.  Even though I had done the Zevran romance the previous game, it basically was done after the landsmeet was over (yes, Alistair dumped her, oh, I cried IRL over that).

What surprised me most was the way the whole thing played out.  She was casual, having fun, until despite all he said, he was NOT casual.

I like the Zevran concept art too! But as scary as he seems to be to many with his deep voice and fairly masculine (for an elf) features, can you imagine if he had been wearing feathers?

Maybe not as his favorite everyday accessory, but yes I can :3 Just like in that jenovan fic/payroo pic.  I suppose Zevran would approve of some dress up fun, feathers included :P

Ooooh, I have a question for anyone playing a dwarf and using DT. I tweaked the dwarf kiss a bit, BUT I only have characters who have long hair, so I don't know how how it would look to a male dwarf or a shaved head female dwarf. Would anyone be interested in testing it? All I did was adjust his height up a bit and move him a bit closer. It looks good to me, but hair could be hiding things.

Edit: My main concern as that the dwarf has gone from kissing Zevran's nose to kissing his chin.  I don't THINK so, but I can't tell!

Actually, from what he said, it is abundantly clear that he has no idea what all is messed up at the gates, and who cares if the fix was "easy".  Why make it hard?  I'm not sure why he has such an obsession with recreating the wheel himself.  There is something to be said for consistent coding style and all, but his refusal to actually talk to any of the people who worked on those fixes is a bit irksome.  He ignored me every time I suggested it.  Then again, he kept insisting that him saying he didn't see why he should give credit for finding the bugs but he would if he had to would be interpreted as him being reluctant to do so.  He made me grumbly.

On a happier note, I do think it would be a good idea to contact the people who have already made fixes (and most of what he has fixed already has a fix out there), and put together a mutually compatible bug fix package that includes all the wonderful hard work you and Charsen have done (as well as what is being done for the other companions with ZDF as a base).  Your work is most certainly NOT obsolete, and it is clear that he is likely to miss a lot of those bugs.  Plus, those kisses....:wub::wub:  Others have cooperatively combined related mods (NB-all in one, the various face/hair/make-up morph packages) while giving appropriate credit.  Besides, you play well with others, which means others are more likely to play with you when fixing new bugs.

Don't give up yet.  He doesn't care about the characters the way you do, which is obvious.

Awwww, sami jo, thank you!  And I think that's an excellent idea.  What is most important is that the game gets fixed and is fun.  I cannot tell you how much your support means to me.

Edit: I wanted to add that in addition to Charsen's gate kiss, two other modders have worked to make their mods compatible with ZDF -- Terra_Ex and cmessaz.  I don't think things like that are going to go away.  A large fix-all mod is a good thing, but so are smaller mods that are interchangeable.

Meanwhile, because I must derail, even myself, here are comparison pictures of the dwarf kiss I tweaked today.  THESE are the types of bugs that will be missed no matter what by the "fix all" mods, and I will continue to focus on them.  Because they're important.  Kisses are the most important thing of them all!

They are now looking into each other's eyes, and the kiss, as best as I can tell with the long hair, is now meeting at the lips.  As soon as I can confirm this with a short haired dwarf, I'm posting it up on ZDF's page.

Ummmm, anyone want to test a dwarf kiss?

You, and Charsen and the Al and Morri folks, have done a massive amount of work for nothing more than "thank-yous".  Very little of what has been fixed was obvious and all of it required really caring about the story and the characters.  Plus, you have gone out of your way to play well with others.  That is the spirit of open-source software and of a mod community.  I'll happily start poking at the toolset to make this happen.  Perhaps leading by example is the best way to make the point.  Besides, that guy's posts made my open-source adherent husband cranky.  I think I have lured him to the dark side with us. He has agreed to help me poke the toolset, which is good since he is actually a programmer. I can break it and he can fix it! :D

!!!!! sami jo!  THANK YOU so much!  My real shortcoming to my entire project is that I am not a programmer so quite a few of my fixes have been kludges.  Charsen recommended video tutorials by SilentCyd which are turning out to be invaluable for me.

I do have a feeling that some of Qwinn1234's fixes will be better than mine, though many will be identical (there's only one real way to fix a few of them).  Which is why I would have liked to have worked with him.

Edit: I love you too, sami jo!  *grin* I actually have one of CZ's dwarf males (I forgot) so I've been testing.  The camera angle isn't the greatest, but I think I have the kiss down from being a joke to being fairly nice.

I think that is my real irritation with him.  If he had talked to all the people who had made fixes and, for example, said to you, "I think I have a better way to fix that." it wouldn't have been an issue.  Everyone would have been happy.  Instead, he is insisting on doing it all on his own, and after he fixes it all the way he wants, he will provide a b2b for other people to use.  We'll be a little swamped until the end of the semester, but I will start poking around.  It shouldn't take long to make a list of the mods that already address issues and of issues still needing to be addressed.  It will keep me busy when I am in insomnia land. ;)

Golly, things sure hit the fans last night.  Ejoslin, I am so sorry that pencildick's inconsideration is putting you through so much grief.  What pisses me off even more than the ethics issue - bad enough - is the blow to your own feelings.  You are so talented & giving, & for you to feel undermined in such a way makes me want to go looking for a baseball bat.

Hang in there - we all love you.
