I am sick of sex being treated as something you have to shove on a pedastal and treat like a special, sacred thing. Not saying it *can't* be that, but... You know.

Is it bad that I completely read this with Alistair's voice? Image IPB

Ahahha. Maybe I did that subconsciously, been writing him a lot recently.

Anyway, Soignee--I wrote a really long gushing compliment on your incredible fanfiction, but as I pressed submit, the social network logged me out. So, I'll keep it simple--I love your writing. Image IPB

Yay! *beams*

I need to start packing for my vaycay, urgh. So lazy. *opens suitcase vaguely and starts throwing things into it*

I've got to rush, but going back to those first questions - why should it be a problem that Zevran has had other sex partners? It wouldn't bother me in real life, and wouldn't bother the characters I've played. And if he's really, genuinely trying to sleep around, he's remarkeably unsuccessful at it (as the only partner he has during the game is the warden).

I'll be back tomoorrow.  Thank you, Zevranites, for the incredible artwork and reading material!

Well he's not trying to during the game (except sometimes with Isabela). In Antiva, though, just being a Crowe meant that he got laid a lot and if his stories are to be believed his female targets often tried to bribe him with sex which he had and then killed them anyway. He really doesn't come across as discriminatory about his bed partners until a little while after he enters a relationship with the PC but since he's on the run from the Crowes he really does have more pressing concerns than sex.

Remember also that Zevran's been taught from the beginning of his life that he "was nothing," his only walue that of a tool to be used & discarded the moment he failed.  It's common for people who've suffered that kind of abuse to treat sex as a shield & a means to an end, rather than a real connection.   When the Warden makes him feel valued as a real person that shield begins to drop.

How historically accurate would that be, especially when it comes time to inherit Highever or to use the Couland name to bolster Alistair or Anora's claim to the throne?

Lol pretty much non-existant according to history, I've just seen people state that's how they RPed their HN. Or like Juneya stated their HN is the product of an extra-marital affair.

Probably the remark that an adopted Cousland being accepted as a full member of that noble family with all rights and privelges would not be historically accurate. Or game-accurate if what happened to Alistair is anything to go by.

Someone who's good at making character faces should make various Couslands. I think that's a great idea since I'm not going to do it. What do you think, MorGothic?

Right now DAN only has two mods for that, one HNF and one HMF

That would be a great project IMO.

Sarah and Herr have the right of it. :)

Not saying there couldn't/wouldn't be problems anyways, just saying folks don't have to pidgeon-hole themselves completely into earth history. Historically any female Warden would have had a hell of a lot more trouble than just some snark from Murdock, too, and if the world got saved it would have been "Alistair's doing" and aw, wasn't he strange for letting that girl play soldier.

I wish I could make decent looking faces.  I think making various racial parents/fergus would make a lot of people happy.

Slightly OT, but if people are going to worry about health issues from sex, they should also worry about tetanus. The amount of blows you get from rusty swords (not to mention all the cut jugulars, broken bones, concussions and eyeballs falling out) should have killed the party before they even get three treaties. And have they seen the water source at camp? I'm surprised the party didn't all die of dysentery in the first week!

I am being facetious. I apologize for this.

Also, this is also somewhat OT, but am I the only one who finds it interesting that a good deal of people who are hung up about Alistair's virginity also plays non-virgin Couslands?

*relurks, sorry for the interruption AND the randomness*

I love this thread. Not coherent enough for much more than that right now, but... yeah. The "virginity is what makes it special!" argument makes me gag every time I see it, sorry. Just... no. No. Just because that's their emotional kink, doesn't make it so.

Haha, virginity as emotional kink :D That is very hilarious thought.

Imo sex==love is culturally promoted trope. An interesting concept to ponder on, but completely alien to me for different reasons. I associate love with something else. Still, I can guess where it comes from.

@ flirting with other people - well, I've dated a guy who did that a lot and I hated it, but later I realized the real reason of my utter disgust was lack of any trace of commitment in our relationship and the flirting itself was not really the issue. Now I find situations like this quite hilarious.

@ too many previous partners argument - since it's a game I easily disregard any health issues, simple as that. Free from this I find it interesting. I am sucker for stories and this is the best kind :3 I would bake cookies for good piece of retold personal history if it's shared willingly and on right occasion <3 Zevran excels in that and thus Mina approves +100 :P

Oh, nothing earth-shattering, and only my observation from a limited sample. I've just seen a few players who extoll Alistair's virginity and innocence as a virtue for a romance partner, but whose PCs in said romance are decidedly the 'saucy minx' type of Cousland. It's interesting how that goes, logically speaking. If virginity is a desired trait in a partner, does that mean something when you aren't one yourself?

(Me? I think it's endearing and cute, but it's certainly not the definite reason why Alistair is the best person for your PC. Heck, it's YMMV depending on each PC! I could also have a long rant on sexuality in Ferelden, but I think I'll stop here.)

Re Health Poultices : So does Wynne's magical bosom, according to Zev. XD

@Webbedfeet- you make some great points. Of course, as STDs are far more a source of concern these days, people are much more likely to think about those in the game context than about dysentery and the like. Still, come on people, it's a fantasy world--your characters don't eat, bathe, get diseases (besides those purposely applied), etc.

And yes, that is funny about Alistair's virginity. My CE certainly didn't consider it that special, as she was pretty much a ****. And honestly, virginity in RL isn't that special either. It may seem like it at first, but later on when you feel more comfortable with the fact that sex =/= the single most emotionally meaningful experience you'll ever have, you realize good relationships are based off a whole lot of other things than being the sole sex partner.

Also, delurking is good! ;)

Truth! Going back way far in human history, humans were originally very promiscuous. It was only societal norms that changed people's perceptions of it.

*actually found Loghain face mod...*

My new HNF is a virgin, and not because she is waiting for her one true love *vomits*. She has just been more concerned with her martial training and learning how to efficiently run her family's estate. If and when she comes to the point where she meets someone whom she wants to sleep with, no doubt she will.

Still can't stop laughing though at the fairytale/Twilight thing of virginity though. It doesn't have to be like that, but for some people they find it romantic, go figure.

Awww, don't relurk, you make fantastic points!

Actually, my favorite reason for Zevran dumping the female warden is if she tells him she cannot deal with his sexual past.  I guess a lot of people can't deal with it, even in a video game with a fictional character, and for those people, Zevran is definitely NOT for them.

And yes, there is definitely a lot of opportunity to make Queenie Cousland into a party girl at the start.  Trying to seduce Duncan, seducing either Dairran or Iona, telling Fergus she wants no less than 3 lovers, etc.  No one judges her, no one tries to lock her in her room.  She's still considered a prize for marriage, though SHE doesn't seem to be interested in it at all.

I personally find Alistair's virginity sweet, and it makes him losing it to Morrigan even sadder.  I actually think that would change him a lot.

Edit: Now I want to read your rant!
