Met my partner on my first day of college, and he proceeded to woo through cunning use of umbrellas.

please, save me from myself & clarify . . .

He stalked me on campus with an umbrella every time it rained.  He likes overly involved metaphors.  Eventually, I bought an umbrella, but I made sure it was big enough for two people.

That sounds really romantic <3.

I have a boyfriend ok! I am not madly in love with Knight and Herr and MG! What's with all the accusations!? :crying:

*is crushed*

Aw, don't feel bad. 'Madly' is a modifier, after all. Maybe she means 'passionately'? Image IPB

Darn it, you caught me! What do I do now!? My reputation is ruined!

Sami Jo and Tell, those stories are adorable. Ahhhh love is such a beautiful thing (until it's not).

Unfortunately in Oregon, you're not considered a true Oregonian if you use an umbrella. So unromantic.

I fully support this madness. XD

That is utterly adorable.  (I also highly approve of overly involved metaphors.)

Ramante, 'shipping' means being convinced that a pair of characters will get together before they actually do.

Lol, love my language handicap. xD

@MG, you're missing the part shop that goes with that coffee. >.>

The shop is just a technicality.. <_<:D

I had no idea about the "shipping" thing either.

I hadn't heard of it either. Is it short for 'relationshipping'?

Somebody has voted to eat Zevran on Dragon Age Survivor. And Loghain has more votes than Wynne. Please vote to eat Wynne!

How can so many, here of all places, know so little about shipping?

I feel extra dorky today.

I think so, but it always makes me think of putting them in a cardboard box and sending them somewhere they are not willing to go!

Wow, did I miss a mini-shipping war? Dammit. All relationships I've been in I had to ask the guy out, apparently I appear standoffish according to a friend, thus guys think I am not interested. But really I can't flirt worth a crap.

[is sent to stand with clueless fellows]  I had to sneak a look at Urban Dictionary myself:

putting characters into a romantic relationship, such as writing Ash + Misty from Pokemon as a couple. Often plays on perceived chemistry between characters in the original series. Abbreviated form of the word relationshipping.

That's what I thought was meant. Ok, I give up and just do the smile-nod at about this point.

Edit: And barkingM1 saves the day!  Or my sanity.  Thank you!

I only know about it because a former roomie was an Avatar (airbender, not dances with thundercats) fangirl...  ::shudders::

OK, let me explain this with a simply example: Harry Potter (YES I AM).

So, you get to ~book 5, and you have all these potential romances coming up, but no one has actually gotten together yet.

So you have shippers- people rooting for certain pairs of characters to hook up.

So you could have Harry/Hermione shippers. They were all stupid and living in pathetic little fantasy worlds.
Then you had Harry/Ginny shippers (like me). Clearly, these people were intelligent and well-informed.
There were Ron/Hermione shippers (like me again). These people were also highly intelligent and perceptive.

And so on and so forth. Pretty much any pairing of characters had its 'shippers' who supported it.

Edit: Trip, it's funny. For all my 'internet hussiness,' in RL I put guys off to no end. I'm with you in that department! (But you don't put me off one bit.)

But you make these which is just as good.

Never been a "shipper" either, and I'm not just saying that. XD Even in fandoms where I thought two characters were interesting together... nope. "Shipping" puts to my mind the kind of crazy rabid wtf that is some of the Alistair fangirls...

Odd, that is how I got to know about it too (well, not roomie). And an TV. announcer that started talking about it before an episode of stargate.
