I have imported my LI which was Liara from ME1, continued it in ME2 with the Shadow Broker DLC into ME3. I have Interacted with Liara all the way up to locking her in as a LI. The one thing that does trouble me is the conversation scene of locking her in and the cutscene seems out of place for a relationship that have been continued since ME1. It seems to be a cutscene designed for players that either haven't played 1 & 2 or want to establish a LI with Liara in game.

Lazy writing. Throughout the game it seemed she was locked in for me (Right from the "There were other reasons I was happy to see you on Mars). But it was so weird hearing that. Have to attribute it to lazy writing.

It's less lazy writing as "writing constrained by the directive to make Mass Effect 3 an 'entry point' into the series for new players," coupled with a time and disk/download space crunch for consoles.

Well, treating Mass Effect 3 as a entry point to the series wasn't a great idea in the first place as I feel that if it was they should have stayed with the strong writing that went into ME1 and 2 as I didn't know anything about the Mass Effect storyline until the 3rd one was announced at E3 2011 and yet I managed to take the time to play through the first and second to get a feel for the storyline. It just a shame that weak writing was encountered within Mass Effect 3 and the introduction of James Vegas too for 'entry point' players was something that they should have excluded for returning players as honestly until you meet up with Liara on Mars, you can theoretically do the first part of Mars with only Ashley or Kaiden respectively.
I apologise that the above paragraph went a bit off topic, but it just that I feel that Bioware didn't have full control over the writing nor some of the game mechanics that returning players were used to referring to LI particularly ones that you imported from ME1, I think that EA had a hand over the writing and how the multiplayer aspect was included and implemented within the main game.
