Like a lot of people on forums, I tend to criticize on the title only.
But yeah, judge on the gameplay alone, not the people from another country.

The combat in DA2 was just fine! Perhaps a tiny bit too fast, but fine otherwise. Some of the best combat mechanics I've seen in RPGs.

The animations for DA2 were absolutely ridiculous. A claymore being swung around like a lightsaber was completely unrealistic. Even somebody on steriods would be unable to reenact the animations for the claymore.

The mage animations did get better than the "I have to take a dump" stance. Plus the mage didn't go pew-pew with their staff. So that was a plus.

The rogue was stupid. The leaping and jumping like a ninja was just plain outlandish.. If anybody can wear chainmail and plate armor and do front and back flips, then okay, but till then, no.

Don`t forget firing 2 arrows up into the air\\ceilling, and have 200 of them rain down. Miraculously only hitting enemies...

Play on NM. It´s clear, especially before the patches, they didn´t bother to balance it, just "throw it in"  mechanics. The faults of the combat system (such as mages having to finish their stupid swirls before casting a spell) become clear. Apparently because only 2% people play on that setting and it looks like none thought that translated to tens of thousands of players.

lol yeah, as someone who actually HAS played Japanese action games, this thread is an immediate ignorant fail, DA2 WISHES it could've had a even a mediocre japanese action gameplay, DA2 was a very western style combat system, don't flatter your ignorance by asociating with a Japanese style

I won't even induldge a action rpg jrpg cause every rpg battle system tri-ace ever made would blow your ignorant lil mind away

And by the way, medieval sword is a difensive tipe of fight. and the sword is sharp only in the tip.

Nope. the german tradition is regarded as very aggressive. and really the italian school is just as offence oriented.
well if you have to do half -swording, you might as well not cut your own hand and since you are cutting with the upper third of the sword. now the rest of the sword is not blunt, just not as sharp.

Felya87 wrote...
The sword is to be taken with both hands to stop the opponent's wapon, and if the opponent fall, the tip was al that needed to be sharp to trapass the body. the rest was done by the weight of the weapon.

That has everything to do with fantasy larping, which is a fine pursuit, and nothing to with actual fencing with or without armour, which is another fine pursuit.

Felya87 wrote...
The specific weight of the sword depend from the kind of tecnic one use. A two hands sword is much heavier than one handled with one, or a one and half handled sword.
It's a kind of fight much more arder and complicated that it seem. I know because I have some friends that have learned, and teach me someting time to time.

well the specific weight of the sword has  to do with it construction and intened use. but really it is kind of all the same weight really

IE tradition tachi  (not Iato) are about 800g-1100 kg for a blade lengh of 60-65 cm.
due to the constructon methode, the balde need to be relatively thick.

a one handed viking sword with a blade of 70-80 cm is about 800 to 1.2 kg
now construction methode where the same ie folded and differential tempering

XV th cent one handed sword will have a blade lengh of 75-90 cm and be 1.1 and 1.3 kg
a graet number of long sword have the same lengh and in some case a marginaly longer handle.
(and the longer the handle the lighter the pommel)

a true two handers is going to be about 90- 130 cm blade and be about 1.5 and 2. kg

all those weapons are very good to good cutter and wvery good to good thruster

a rapier wich is a poor cutter and very good thruster has a blade of about 1m and is about 1kg

a backsword good cut an d thrust has a blade of 80-90 cm and is between 1 and 1.2 kg

a napoleonic light cavalry saber whis is an average cutter (but very good slasher) and poor thruster has a blade of about 80 cm and weight 1.1-1.2kge

a jian/xian in it s long version is about 70 cm  800-900 grams

a zwheihander as in late 15th early has a balade of 130-150 and is about 2.5 to 3.2 kg

A friend of mine has a claymore hanging on his wall. That one weighs ALOT more that 2-5 kilos Somewhere between 10 and 20, i think. He dropped it when he was taking it down from the wall. the weight of it caused it to impale the couch...

There were ceremonial swords made, but not used for fighting. Unless the ARMA (Association of Renassiance Martial Arts) has it facts all wrong www.thearma.org/essays/weights.htm

No idea what type it was. He bought it in Scotland, though. And it was sharp. I wouldn`t put much stock in ARMA, though. If i remember correctly they "figured out" how to fight with swords from looking at paintings.

Not just talking about ARMA. The same information can be found at the Field Museum of Chicago, the Metroplitan Museum in New YorK and the Library of Congress. You can also check the books Treasures from the Tower of London: Arms and Armour by Norman and Wilson (1982) and Records of the Medieaval Sword by Ewart Oakeshott.
The sword you mentioned is only for ceremonial purposes not combat.

The firing of two arrows in the air and having a Hail of Arrows come down originated in Awakening. Scattershot came from DAO. That did not come from DA2. Bioware just continued it.

I liked it personally but they do need to slow it down a little cause a great sword shouldn't be that fast. But I liked the fact I had to do something

IMO they need to speed up how fast you swing a great sword and slow down everything else

It sounds like you think all Japanese action games are bad. If so, any conclusions that you come to cannot be taken seriously.

I assume its the people who play on the easiest difficulty setting who keep mentioning "button spamming" and "no tactics"?

lol on the hardest difficulty I only had to plan my battle twice, I have never played a game that required so little tactics, it was ridiculous really. I agree with OP the battle style in DA2 was irredeemable and just plain look stupid.

It sounds like they think Japanese action games are hack and slash games. Which is odd, as the majority are not.

I tried to play a mage in Origins, but it seemed way too slow. In DA2 mages were much better and their spells were more powerful, so I hope they keep that aspect in DA3. I didn't like the spawning enemies, and that should go, also I think the rogue was way overpowered, and unrealistic. Since I never play a warrior, I have no opinion about them or their great swords.

It seems we can all agree that OP doesn't actually play any Japanese games and is simply being racist. Sadly it's not uncommon to see people on BSN bemoaning anything Japanese.

in DA;O playing awarrior two handed spec was tedious they were way to slow, DA2 improved on this but it was still too slow compred to how great swords are swung in real life.

Haha, this thread is so full of fail, and no, not because of the OP, but because of all the little children accusing him of racism without actually knowing what racism is, let me give you a very quick lesson:

Racism: The belief of racial superiority. The OP hasn't even hinted at this. l2p.

And second, claymores/greatswords DON'T weight 10-20kgs, DON'T be ridiculous, omg.

I guess they think Dragon's Dogma is hack'n'slash too, when it's definitely not...and a great game.
