 Here's what I've found out so far:
Against normal mob: Snap freeze + incinerate = Cryo explosion. However in order to set off a second explosion in the next cast the mob you detonated must not have been frozen.
If the mob you detonated was chilled and there is still a frozen one on the floor incinerating that will trigger a second explosion.  <-- This is being inconsistent...

Against armour: Alternating cryo and incinerate will roll out constant cryo and fire explosions. Fun times. :)

Againsts shielded enemies including bosses: Cryo + Energy Drain = Cryo explosion. Alternating between these two till the shields go down seems to be the best option.

Hopefully this info will prove useful for the moment.

i have played the paladin for tha last 2 days and they all work, it depends on the timing and the enemy. for example i can inc+ed an atlas for a FE but this will not work on enemies that have only armor. at least this is what happened to me several times.
i play 6/6/6/0/6 it is amazing you dont need power damage so you can easily skip the passives. i took the fire shield and i love it. meele, snap freeze meele kills kind of everthing. works amazing on dragoones and pyros as well :D

They still need to fix all the bugs snap freeze has, but i agree, this character is fantastic now.

I go with 3 / 6 (Damage to Frozen +100%) / 6 (Tech Combos +100%) / 5 (Power Dmg)/ 6. Lots of detonations.

If you repeat this pattern he will be able to explode something everytime he uses and ability. Combine that with a suited ammo type and he's a machine right now.


Does this seriously work? If so, then that's awesome! Can't wait to respec after work!

Oh you haven't seen what happens when someone uses overload with multiple jump evolution right after you use snap freeze on a cluster of enemies?

Energy Drain only detonates Cryo and Fire Explosions against synthetics. Not sure if that's a bug or intentional.

Im not sure if Incinerate is worth maxing out. I've been running without it, and I was thinking of respecting and putting 3 or 4 ranks into it. Is fully evolving it worth it on the Paladin?

This guys is really nice now. I speced out incinerate for max tech explosion. Fun times indeed. Takes armored targets down quick and mobs. Combined with a scorpion its just sick.

Lies, SF + ED on Atlas = Cryo Explosion all the time. In fact, I randomly just see sh*t just "*BOOM* and they apparently came from Luker, my Paladin lol.

Incinerate is actually nice now, so with two or three of them my Paladin has ranged power he lacked before.

Phantoms and Dragoons are a walk in the park. It's the improved Atlas that can rough you up, such an annoying mob now though not nearly as cheap as Geth Prime.

That was part of what they fixed yes it is working.

 its been stated numerous times that the patch fixed it for cryo blast ( everyone but the paladin) but not snap freeze.
 i don't know how true this is because ive been playing other stuff.

I was getting Cryo Explosions like crazy against the Geth, this morning...Snap Freeze + Area Energy Drain = Awesome!

Energy Drain won't work on organics, but Fire Shield and then Snap Freeze does set off Fire Explosions.

Although the 100% tech burst combo for Snap Freeze is bugged, it still works with Cryo Explosions as someone tested.

I will respec and see for myself.

I brushed off my human engy after the changes to tech explosions and was downright amazed and how much more useful she was now. Can't wait to see what I can do as my paladin, to have both of my favorite non-infiltrators buffed might mean I'll have to put my volus adept to standby.

Hmmm... your 2nd question is indeed a good question. I have two theories:

1. the text in the balance changes said:
- The target must still be fully frozen to be detonated.

Maybe they meant with "detonated" the good old cryo explosion, where the enemy bursted into a thousand ice particles. So maybe Bioware's intention was that you have to fully freeze the target to get it killed with a cryo explosion instead of just dealing a lot of damage with the cryo explosion.

2. it's bugged, but this time in favor of us players, because we can not set up cryo explosions with cryo ammo, even if the target is just chilled and not frozen.

Your first question, why ED+Snap Freeze is a CE although it should be a Tech Burst (primer was ED=tech power), I have no clue. But I also have a hard to believe it without having seen it in the game myself. Since Leland Gaunt claims differently a few posts above yours, I rather think he is right and you were just mislead either by a teammate priming for a cryo explosion without you noticing or something else going on.

I have tried extensively to create Fire Explosions with the Paladin, using rank 6 incinerate and rank 6 Energy drain, on various enemy types (geth, cerberus and collectors) with zero success.

I am wondering if it has to do with my character, or the evolution of skills I took (I took rank 6 energy drain for the 40% damage reduction, which has been known to be buggy)

Can anyone give me some help as to how I can detonate Fire Explosions with Energy Drain?

I love this kit, but I almost prefer rolling with incendiary ammo and ignoring incinerate in the build.

Fire Shield + Snap Freeze = Amazing hotness.
Yeah, sure, Snap Freeze detonations detonate on the Paladin and not the enemy... but that's a good thing! SF is close-ranged anyway! 10 metres without the range evolution.

It works double well when I've just been revived. Deploying melee before you finish getting up is utterly doable, even if it looks like an animation nightmare. "Sorry, Mr. Dragoon, EAT MY FIREY HOLOGRAPHIC SMASHING BOARD! And now PK FREEZE!" *boom*

If the last point in N7 Paladin wasn't so superflous to the guy (I guess I could make my Graal X weigh 20% less, or deal even more overkill damage?) I'd probably agree.
