For those frothing at the mouth about ~EWW GROSS ROMANCE~, or who actually have a reasoned argument against more cinematic interaction with NPCs, here's a good example from DA:O...
Don't kid yourself, these "romances" serve no purpose other than juvenile sexual wish fulfillment. They serve no narrative, thematic or even gameplay purpose(barring Alistair and Morrigan in DAO).

So.. by touchy feely.. you mean giving Merril the hand of discipline when she gets emotional?
Sounds good to me.
Yes, that could be part of it. I want to be able to Gibbs-slap a party member. If they are the token fool, even more so.
Gibbs-slap
A sharp, upward slap to the back of the head given to someone acting blaringly stupid. Originated from Special Agent Gibbs from NCIS who employs this manuver often.
"Inquisitor, I thought she was a blood mage. How else could a guy like someone so ugly?"
*Gibbs-slap*
"Sorry boss."
The Gibbs-Slap.
Something like that every now and again would do wonders, hahaha
woot +100i wanna Gibb slap someone there so should be Gibbs slaps in DA3
quick someone make GIBBS SLAPS FOR DA3banners
Even if its not specifically a Gibbs Slap, something similar would do wonders.

I think I would have abused of this option in DA2...Anders, Merril and Fenris thanks various divinity for not being included
I have to say DA2 character are much more whiny than DA:O characters...yes, Alistair was a little at the start, with Duncan's death, but he could be funny sometimes.

DA2, on the other hand, is full of whimpering pantywaists who continue being whimpering pantywaists throughout the course of the game unless one of them thankfully dies or leaves the party. It has one of the worst casts of any RPG I've ever played.

Alistair is a dynamic character and changes significantly over the course of the game depending on your actions... as do all of your companions in DA:O.

I have to say I quite liked DA2 character, I think they where potentially good characters...but horribly managed.

Yeah, and yet again, you're too caught up in your agenda to read past the first half of my first sentence, and you have no intention of writing about the subject at hand.
Why not make a thread to debate the merit of romances, instead of trying to derail this one?

+100 to gibb-slap! (as Syllogi wrote, if they are given instead of words in an already occuring cut-scene they won't augment the overall weight of cinematics.)
Also, I would love to see a specific touch-game implemented in Thedas (as a substitute option for climax fighting against sentient humanoïd opponents.)
In France, it's called "Je te tiens, tu me tiens, par la barbichette..." (which translates by "I hold you, you hold me, by our little goatee...")
I couldn't find the anglo-saxon equivalent for it (I'm not sure but I think japanese people have one, though...)
So it may seem complicated at first to most players. Anyway, here are the rules (and don't forget that orlesians may already know about it) :
The two opponents hold each other's chin, and stare straight in the other's eyes, like this :

while they sing together and repeatedly:
"I hold you
You hold me
By our little goatee.
The first one
Of us two
Who will laugh
Will get a wee slap!"
...Until one of them laughs (that gets indeed him/her a gentle slap upon the cheek), and looses the duel.
In hardcore mode, a simple half-smile is considered the same as laughing.
Think about the possibilities : Loghain would have made a tough opponent in the Landsmeet, and the Arishok an almost unbeatable challenge!
Now, the next one who wants to derail the thread for his/her own purpose won't have any shallow excuse:innocent:

Geez all the haters in here seem to think a punch in the daddy bags or all out brawl is part of a.... dating sim?!!
Tell you what why don't all you haters who only bother to post in this thread without knowing WTF you are talking about line up and let me punch you right between the legs or jump you and beat you down and then tell me thats too romantic.
It would never happen because one thing has nothing to do with the other. Hugs are only half of the touchy feely equation we want more realistic interactions. If your LI is grieving and 2 guys start verbally abusing her right in front of you I don't care if the 2 guys in question are St. Peter and Jesus Christ NO one would sit there and say or do nothing. They would beat THEM DOWN!
While paragon hugs are part of the touchy feely equation the other part involves murder knifes and sack taps. Seriously I am indignant here that half that request is getting ignored just so many of the posters here can bash people for liking the other side of that equation. At the very least haters read THE OP!
Look, there it is right there - even the "beatdowns" are tied into romances. It all comes back to romances, in this thread and abroad.
I have never seen a more pitiful fanbase than what Bioware has managed to accrue. In the past I'd find the kind of responses they get amusing, but the advent of ME3 and announcement of DA3 has really put things into perspective. I think the "fans" are just as much to blame for BW's downgrade in quality as BW themselves are... they're trying to cater to you, and you get what you ask for with BW: dating sims.
Even ME3 can be partially pinned on the "fans"... the original script was leaked, and the backlash was intense. Bioware decided to do rewrites on the script as a result... and the rest is history.
Truly, with the kind of people BW's games attract, it is no wonder the quality of their games has divebombed. People browbeat the s*** out of Bioware for not listening enough... that's not the case at all. All the romance crap that has infested this place since DA:O and the influence it has had on BW's games since is a clear indicator of that.
You got what you asked for, people... and you will get it again.
DOUCHEBAGGERY!!
You made it about a dating sim you and your cohorts coming into this thread not bothering to read all the well rounded responses many of which are about the romance but many are also about friendships and rivalries and sack taps and apparantly you don't even play bioware games or youd STFU with your ****ing because the romances are just an afterthought and completely optional and therefore don't even have to be in your game.

Personally, I'm all for the Gibbs-slap. From my experience all of the followers in DA2 barring a few needed a good wallop. Probably be even more loony in DA3, I expect what with the war going down.
In DAO the companions were less....extreme and you did get some chances to give them a hiding every now and then. Sten being one if he complains to you when you are trying to find the ashes; you get to beat him up to put him back in line.
Agreed with Syllogi about needing to give Morrigan a slap during the City Elf thing.

Lol true. I didn't feel close to the DA2 companions, even though I knew them for 'years' compared to the few 'months' in DAO.
It even worse if we do the companions quests AFTER Leandra death, i mean, you see Hawke mother just died, then the companions put everything of their problem on Hawke shoulder like nothing happen, i want to say "eeeeefffff you all!"

Ahaha, that actually sounds really hard! I remember playing the "Honey if you love me, smile" game when I was a kid at primary school XD I was always horrible at it. Ahaha.
But Hawke did get the '"dead-panned-stare-of-doom" down to pat in DA2, even when relatives died. That's gotta be master level or something.
