I'm having an argument with someone who claims Alistair totally hated Morrigan, there's no way he could have enjoyed himself while having sex with her, and having them sleep together is akin to rape. I swear there was a dev quote where one of the writers (possibly David) said he probably enjoyed himself even if Alistair doesn't like Morrigan.

Can anyone help me out?

Depends on how I feel at the time. One shot looks like he's enjoying the prospect of boning her. Then the other shot looks like he's scared as hell. It's like he's trying to get away from her.



I'll see if my search skills can come up with anything from this board though.

I'd say it probably depends on whether you're dealing with hardened or non-hardened Alistair (is there any way to express that without making it sound dirty, in this context? *sigh*) and whether he's already slept with your PC in game...I'm horrified by the idea that the poor boy would lose his virginity to Morrigan...



I think non-hardened Alistair would have a VERY difficult time - in the cut scene, to me it looks like he's scrambling backwards on the bed to get away from her....

I think it's a matter for personal interpretpation. I'm not familiar with the dev quote - someone else might be helpful there but Morrigan tells Alistair (as she stalks across the room in her skivvies to climb into bed with him) that he isn't going to hate it as much as he thinks he is. The cutscene has Alistair looking mildly uncomfortable as she approaches and he does scoot backwards on the bed, although just as the scene ends, it looks to me as if he smiles slightly.  So... depending upon the storyline you're working from, I think one can either say he hated it (because it wasn't FemWarden) or was ok with it at some level in the end. 

While my own thought it is that humans often separate love and sex -- our hormones and drives are pretty amazingly strong after all, so I'd be very surprised if he didn't enjoy it at least physically although he seems the type (particularly if one didn't toughen him up after the scene with Goldana)  to feel badly about it emotionally.  I'm also not one who thinks that he was secretly in love with her. In my RL job, I listen to plenty of married couples who talk with and about each other in ways similar to A & M and they are being neither loving nor flirty so that probably influences my take.

... Well, I personally like to pretend that the two shared some sort of hidden, snarky romance because they bicker like an old married couple, but that's just me.

A friend of mine at work thought the same thing, and was terribly put out when she discovered that Alistair and Morrigan don't hook up at the end.

... Also, my brother heard a bit of in-game dialog with Morrigan and Alistair and asked, "Are those two together, or something?" ... so on my end, it looks like the first impression most people have of these two is that they're perfect for each other.

I'm pretty sure once he got into it, it was fine.....hormones, pheromones, and stimulated nerve endings do ALOT to make one forget about things " for the moment" He may feel bad, or what not AFTER on a moral level... but the act itself?...yeah he had fun else things would not work as needed >.~

Hating/loving someone doesnt have to have anything to do with having and enjoying sex with that person.

I've been thinking it over and I still don't get why the ritual had to take place between Morrigan and a Grey Warden (aside from her desire for a creepy old god child.) From what I heard, it seemed like all that was needed was a fetus to absorb the taint. If that were the case, wouldn't a female PC be okay with performing the ritual too? There didn't seem to be any crazy spell business going on. 

Yes, there was crazy spell business. If you really pester Morrigan for details, she will say that it is a blood magic ritual. She also says that this was her whole purpose, to conceive a child with the soul of the old god. Morrigan is not a charity, she's not going to help you do the ritual and let you have this baby so that you can save Alistair from the absolute horror of sleeping with a really good-looking woman with no strings attached. Wow. How awful.

He totally isn't 'more than  glad to get laid', as evidenced by the fact that he turned my PC down for sex until she'd given him enough collectible figurines and told him his wilted flower was nice

Women have different kind of "control rod" that blurrs their common sense. Besides not every woman in the world has to be till death us part head over heels in love to enjoy some sort of one night stand with an attractive man.
There really isnt that much difference between males and females as some people like to think.

If he absolutely couldn't enjoy the experience Morrigan couldn't have gotten the baby, no matter how hard she tries.

Men needs physical stimulation to ejaculate, and at some point must enjoy the act enough that the job gets done.

So he physically enjoyed it, although it is not unthinkable that he despised the act, much in the same way a woman can despise being raped and yet get aroused by the sensation (and this happens, sometimes).

And now that those can of worms are opened, I hope you enjoy it!

Are you sure one of the devs said it? It's hard to find posts by them on this board.

Physically? Yeah, he probably did. Not much he could do there, Morrigan's a beautiful, willing woman, despite his emotions about her, once it started there was very little he could do. Emotionally that's a different story altogether, first, he doesn't like her, period. Even if he did, this little blood magic ritual of sexiness certainly would have put a damper on the relationship. If, for the sake of argument, he's not in love with the PC(you can argue 'til the cows come home about whether he really does or not) he's still someone who believes sex is an intimate, loving thing. That you only do with someone you really, truly care about. Morrigan is the opposite of all that, at least in this case.



I don't think there's any real way to answer this, the best I can think of is that he enjoyed the sensations, the physical pleasure, but probably kept his eyes closed the entire time and was scared to death Morrigan was going to off him at any moment.
