I'm not so sure he enjoyed it either physically or mentally. I seem to recall there was an interesting discussion between the guys on this first aspect, but I some of them seemed to be saying that you did no have to be *pleasantly* sexually stimulated in order to *uhum*... deliver

As for mentally, my take is he doesn't like her, again one of the early posters in this thread says that he/she has seen too many couples who argue in their RL profession to believe the myth that this necessarily means that they actually like each other. There is also another aspect, this is not just about sex, it's about compulsion, one upmanship, power, bullying basically. Alistair is only acceding to it to save his life or even the PC's and if he disliked Morrigan before, he's going to suddenly like her now when she's COMPELLING him to do this on the eve of battle? She literally has just got one over him, and no-one likes being made to feel dominated or humilliated.
Finally, where's the foreplay? Is it only girls who like foreplay? I don't think so. Alistair woos quite gently if rather akwardly, usually we behave towards others as we would like them to behave towards us, especially in the arena of love. He overtly asks for foreplay, food, wine and of course doesn't get it.

Even if he does not feel entirely bad about it immediately afterwards, too much else happening, an archdemon to take down, I think he will look on it as a a harmful event. Men who have been abused often seek to cushion themselves from the fact afterwards by attempting to believe that they were not actually the victim so you get the incongruous situation of nine year olds claiming that they actually seduced a thirty year old, but that doesn't make it so....

Yeah, because in the end, Morrigan is a girl. Even if he is in love with the Warden you know he is still thinking, "Heheh, boobs." He's a man. It feels good. Doesn't take a genius to know that once stuff starts happening, he's just gonna sit back and enjoy it.

QFT.

If it makes you feel any better, I was just talking about Alistair. I didn't mean that in a "Men a dumb and want to bone everything" kind of way. Women are essentially the same way, we just act like we aren't ^_^

That's an argument that can easily be turned around,  to say that men like women are emotionally invested in sex but that they act like they aren't.  I'm not sure generalities of this kind say much about individuals.

Who cares.

The second I knew that this choice was going to happen, I deleted the game I was playing as a female noble and eventually played as a male noble PC. I impregnated Morrigan myself, became King, and kept my NPC lover on the side for good measure. I felt GOOD at the end of my male playthrough.

I personally didn't see the point playing a female noble who romances Alistair to completion. I saw all his romantic bits on youtube, so no need to discover it in its entirity for myself. Others may feel differently but to me the primary requirement for romance is entertainment, and if I find that the romance is tragic, then however cute the NPC is, it is not worth my time IMO. Again, different folks have different preferences.

So, did he enjoy it? Ask Mr. Gaider. He put it in there.

I made my MHN impregnate her, marry Anora and keep Zevran on the side as well. That is an all around good ending.

Morrigan is a beautiful woman, Alistair also found she beautiful! and having sex .. he do not think: I hate she, but just think: wow she is so sexy.

Alistair has enjoyed the sex so sure.

There's a piece of fanfic that has a great take on the DR and how Alistair handles it - Spiritus Mundi written by Speakfire (no association). The DR is in the prologue but be aware it's rated Mature content. You can find it on fanfiction.net. I think most fangirls will like it :)

Physically I think he would have (Since she was pregnant). Emotionally I think its more akin to rape. I hate asking him to do it but its the only way I can get a "happy" ending with my games. Loghain is always dead and Riordan isn't an option. The one time I played a Cousland boy, I spared Alistair of ever hearing about the ritual and did it myself.

Oddly that's also the only time I could refuse her and get two of the other endings too.

NEVER EVER EVER going to do a Warden Commander ending again. SUCKIEST ending ever!!

As a technical aside, a man does not need to experience pleasure to ejaculate. So I don't know where the- if a person is pregnant, someone enjoyed it comments come from. He doesn't even need to feel pleasure to stand to attention either. Physiological arousal needn't always be pleasant for a man though I hope that they never have to experience how really painful or embarassing things can create the same physiological reaction as the fun bits.

That said that, the observation has absolutely no bearing on whether Alistair or Morrigan or whoever enjoyed it. That is a question best asked of Mr. Gaider, who wrote both the characters and the romance and the ritual.

I didn't find the DR to be something that broke the relationship for me. I hated having to implicate him in the whole thing, especially since he so very much does not wish to get involved, but handing Alistair over for one night of sex with a woman my PC knows he doesn't like is not much of a sacrifice in the grand scheme of things.

And, for the record: I'm sure he enjoys himself a little, but the guilt probably kills much of the buzz. Especially if he knows that she intends to have an old-god baby.

I can see that. A lot of people have different subjective reactions and it is not indicative of the writing, or the characters but whether you can or cannot justify them, whether you like the angst or not...which is all individual, I'd think.

I believe Bioware always does a great job with their characters. Mr. Gaider always writes very entertaining romances. This one was not for me, is all, even if the character was very appealing. And that is purely a subjective take not a criticism by any means.

He enjoyed it, of course he did. My Brosca playthrough he lost his virginity to her, and I knew he enjoyed *that*...

My Aeducan who I romanced Alistair with, who despite a pragmatic attitude to sex and grew up around Noble Hunters and such, still had stabs of jealousy... Morrigan is pretty fine, doncha know!

Hmm, I missed out when I chose to play as Human Noble MALE.

Even so, I struggled with the decision for close to half an hour while Morrigan sat on my bed, ever so patient for my answer.

Die, or let a late-comer (Loghain) take my glory?

Die, or allow the birth of an old god?

Morrigan was a very persuasive debater. She had given all of her talking points a lot of thought. And it was precisely because it was so calculated, that in the end I rejected her. If she had stuttered as a guilt-ridden friend, I probably would have agreed.

Heh imported_beer - yes I agree. Despite being female I like playing a male noble. You get to bone Morrigan and marry the queen. Epic win!

As for the ejaculation thing... yes, finger up the bum will do that. Poor Alistair... nyuck nyuck nyuck!

"I'm having an argument with someone who claims Alistair totally hated Morrigan, there's no way he could have enjoyed himself while having sex with her, and having them sleep together is akin to rape. "

Unenjoyable sex doesn't equal rape. That's silly talk.

I think Alistair secretly loves Morrigan and really enjoyed the sexy time. I mean look at his expression before Morrigan blows out the candle.

I'm pretty sure he enjoyed it. I once got an interesting dialogue between morrigan and sten, while I was playing male mage (who romanced morrigan).I don't remember exact words, but it was something like that: Sten:"So, about you and the warden.."? Morri: you mean Alistair?

I've always had an impression that Alistair is attracted to her, not only physically, but also mentally. Well, to some extend at least. You know, she's evil, sinful, dirty etc., total contradiction to what he belevies in. And that is exactly why. However, I'm not sure what Morrigan thinks. I guess she just finds it amusing.

I've only seen it on YouTube (no DR in any of my games), but Alistair seems to have a grin on his face when Morrigan struts toward him.

Loghain looks genuinely horrified and disgusted compared to Alistair.

Of course, Alistair could just be telling himself jokes to cover up the 'awkward', or it could be an embarrassed grin, but on the other hand....

I think all the men who do the DR look the same, which is to say they look somewhat aroused but mostly horrified. I even noticed because my male who romanced her looked like he was going to harf, and I couldn't quite figure out what was going on with that artistic decision.

I'd like to think of it more as Alistair loves hating Morrigan openly but that look he has before she blows out the candle... he just seems more like, "OMFG! I have to sleep with you and knock you up in order to live?! This is the freakin' weirdest thing ever!!! I need Oghren's ale!!!!" [Alistair whimpers for the first few seconds of the... ahem, you know]

He just appears very uncomfortable to me and I felt so bad. But hey, at least he's getting some on the night before the big battle.

This does not make sense, because he enjoys sex with someone, he enjoys it with everyone or anyone?

I don't know SurelyForth, I just checked it again, and I do see a goofy little grin on Alistair's face, that Loghain simply doesn't have. But like I said, it's YouTube, so who knows.

As for the MalePC, I wouldn't know. I have one lone malePC, a dalish who is romancing Morrigan. I don't know yet if he'll do the DR, but I'll definitely look at his face closely if he does.

Alistair being supremely uncomfortable, and Loghain being disgusted fits perfectly, but a PC who romanced her looking like that is utter rubbish. Unless he's scared for some reason or other.

Watching the scenes again, it looks like Alistair and Loghain have the same body with different heads cropped in. Makes me go lawl.
