I've said this multiple times, but it can't hurt:

Even with tactical cloak active, they will hunt you down. Mercilessly. It's like you put on a bed sheet and pretended you were invisible. It doesn't have any effect whatsoever.

I've been jumping back into my old sniper playstyle and the Dragoons tend to be easy pickings with that load out.

From what I'm seeing in the thread, the most common point of agreement is

  • Give them sound effects for movement, chatter, and attacks so that we know they exist (the Phoenix class shouts aren't cutting it); this is especially important because Cerbies and Reaper boss units have almost the same presence as L4D special infected. Their chatter let's you know they're around and lets you prepare accordingly--even if that means bending over to kiss your ass goodbye. So some sort of chatter and attack sfx at the very least seem to be absolutely essential.
  • Give them a more complicated attack structure than blitzing. Perhaps make them flankers. That'll certainly stir terror in the hearts of campers everywhere. Perhaps with this give their a chatter a radius to players with those with power enhanced senses (geth hunter mode, MQ tactical scan) getting a wider radius to hear their chatter.
  • Give them a more varied attack structure than just spamming Smash and the occasional pistol shot. Maybe let them Lash campers from afar.
How do folks feel about this? Do these points sum up the general feeling of dissatisfaction with this unit?

I agree for the most part except lash. It would be quite the rage inducer to be lashed all the way across the map. xD

I personally haven't had much of an issue with dragoons but maybe that's because of my class choices. Vorcha eat their armor and dodge their attacks easy, Drell Adept reave plus cluster grenade combo can take out a horde of em, and Turian Sentinel can stunlock them with overload (before they start their attack animation).

Apologies, I should have been more explicit in stating that it would trigger on targets camping against cover--and ideally that it would knock you out of cover with negligible damage. Cover knocking should be enough without it blowing out your shields completely.

They seem unbalanced. The fact that they are spammed to crap doesn't help. And they like to wolf pack, which makes them frustrating at best.

Dragoons are like a preview of what would happen if there was PvP in the game.  Think about it, when the Phoenix Adept first came out, everybody was praising about how OP it was.  Now that it's an enemy, people are now complaining because they can't take a bit of their own medicine that they dished up playing the same character.

As an addition to Cerberous they're pretty interesting, as a new enemy i have to fight, a royal pain the ass <_<

As many have said, they move stupidly fast given that they're an armoured unit and almost nothing fazes them. One unit alone can put down an entire team on Gold (not my proudest most), such is the speed and ferocity of their attacks.

But the thing that really takes the biscuit is that they often move in packs of 3+, so if you get caught by surprise and/or can't run away fast enough, you will get downed and even possibly watch the game come to an end...

To the "nothing fazes them" point, headshots are pretty effective, especially with the Locust. To the pack mentality, it's a pretty sound strategy, but it makes doing solo 4 Things objectives controller-chuckingly frustrating.

I like this idea then. Taking cover against them is quite.......unwise for the most part, so this would teach people a thing or two about "Mobile combat".

Who in the blue hell said all of us WANTED mobile combat. Some of us are traditional snipers who have the mantra "Cover the team" going through our heads.
Are you saying you DON'T want us to cover your backs, since most of you aggressive types have tunnel vision and only see what is in front of you, never coming from either side or prepared to shove your spine out through your chest?

The shadow rips them apart, but I join the consensus, a terrible design.

BioWare needs to tone down the number of them, decrease the movement speed and increase smash cooldown to avoid the ridiculous slapstick feeling and remove the armour, it must be barrier and health.

Which is why I think Dragoons should be flankers instead of blitzers. Seems like they were given the geth Pyro's command queue.

I've said it in another thread, but let me quote myself :P

"Let me see... fast as Usain Bolt and jumps too, pretty much can't be staggered but can stagger your entire team to death, has armor that is so heavy they can't be grabbed but still can jump dodge and sprint! Can fire from distance, moves in packs (with phantoms!), and has no delay on attacks!

Yep, Bioware is trolling us :P

Seriously this unit is a bad joke, and needs some serious balancing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Pretty much, and its armor is pretty damn strong.  It is difficult for a full clip of Reegar X + heavy barrel and AP Ammo III kill him.
He moves too fast, is too durable, hard to stagger, and can stunlock multiple people.  And he is no cheese at mid-range either.
He's just insane, and there are far too many of them

First off, I'm not an aggressive player. I'm primarily supportive and defensive. I back my teammates up. Second, I'm also more of a long range sniper kind of player, but it's not going to work on the Dragoon, so I learned to Adapt to them. I don't have tunnel vision, I always check my flank because no one else does it for me, nor would I want to rely on them to. Considering I'm the one who primarily kills the Phantoms, Dragoons and Guardians your comment was just purely unwarranted. Don't assume ones playstyle simply because they have no problem doing multiple adaptations during a match. I can easily switch from close-combat to mid combat, and to long range combat if necessary; I can do a camp if needed, and I can defend myself while moving around. It's not BioWare's problem if people are close-minded and as a result, unable to adapt to the situations present during a match.

Just use armor damaging loadouts.

I tried three different things yesterday and all three worked great.
1) Biotic explosions. Warp > Throw, Dark Channel > Throw...etc. It staggers them and kills rather quickly.
2) Ballistic Blades and Inferno Grenades with the Batarian Soldier. Completely wrecks them.
3) Scorpion pistol with armor piercing. Staggers and is great for when you get gangbanged by a two or three of 'em.

This was on gold too. Can combine 1 + 3 or 2 + 3 for additional goodness.

This too. I tried two different specs with the Batarian. Found the Blades/Nades one worked better overall against Cerberus (phantoms) but the blade armor against the 'Goons was pretty hilarious.
