I want family in DA3 too. Carver can rot in hell, but Bethany was way the best companion I had (so no, I couldn't play mage much :D)
Also, if there are family members, even if they aren't companions (mother, little brother/sister, even a harmless pet) please stop killing them Bioware. And if you want to make missions like Leandra's murder, let us have a chance of saving the family member in question.
Having a family kinda makes you have a place to feel better, specially with a sister like Bethany or a mother like Leandra. I don't mind having grumpy family members either (in fact I didn't hate Carver that much) so yes please, Family for DA3.

Actually Bethany is also good at calling Hawke out when s/he's a dick, but she only does it when s/he is actually a dick.
I remember the quest in act one you do for Emeric, if you have sarcastic personality and give him the bones there is some autodialogue with a horrible joke from Hawke from Hawke where Bethany frowns and have a funny response.

I love being sarcastic/joke on her, but not on all places. I like it when she talk about grandfather and Hawke just push a strike on her, "owh...they maybe fine with all Ferelden thing, but imagine if they know you are an apostate".

If the Warden is Human Mage origin, there are even more dialogues about that with her. That is why i keep Mage Origin and non-Mage Hawke as DA2 canon. It make more sense.

Edit : And i like Bethany join the Circle, it give more reason to support the mages, i always support mages, i just cannot support Templar out of many reasons, just when Bethany is Circle Mage, it give more sense for Hawke to suport Mages.

Well, Mage Origin, non-mage Hawke is also my favorite import, but I don't think it makes more "sense." The Amell mage in Ferelden is still their cousin, she was just not famous in cases where the warden wasn't her.
My second fave is Mage Hawke with Human Noble Cousland/Anora marriage.

I also prefer the circle, ut mostly because she's not so depressed.

No. As honestly it will end up with half the Forum turning into the state of Alabama.

What i mean by "sense" is the continuity of the story...the Hero Of Ferelden is an Amell, the Champion of Kirkwall is also an Amell, maybe the Inquisitor is also an Amell, that will be perfect

I mean, the one who save everyone from the Blight is a Mage from Amell family, then the one who save Kirkwall from Qunari invasion is an Amell, but not a mage, and then she supporting the Mages...if the Inquisitor is also an Amell, it is an Amell Trilogy, like Star Wars is about Skywalker family

I am sure they would not do that O_O Unless it really makes sense or they are just told to do it as there is no time for anything else.

PS: I prefer warrior class over mage too thankfully. It does look great when my Hawke swings her oversized sword through wave and wave of enemys <3

Uh, are you sure you don't mean enemies?

Bethany amorphous character. Simple, kind, nice, adequate from the company.
For communication with outsiders Inquisitor will be written a completely different image. Perhaps, in some ways similar to the former, but not necessarily.
And look where we gave Bethany Circle or sent to the Grey Warden.
Carver is interesting is how the main character's brother, a sister Bethany's. More in these characters is not anything remarkable.
And since DA3 they will not be my brother \\ sister years, then their value to zero.
(sorry for my "english")

I'm not sure if it was stated but I'd like family, brothers, sisters etc but not as companions. More like I chose to be an inquisitor while my brother is a butcher, or somthing like that. mayb an NPC you can have more in depth chats with but doesn't nessisarily come along for hack and slash murder fun time.

Also an interesting thought though I am not sure if it would have quite the same effect as fighting side by side as your sibling and wondering if the next thing you do will put her/him in far too much danger.

...Or well some people probably wonder if there is not enough of it x) ( danger vs sibling that is)

It'd be interesting if the DA3 protag's family was a son or daughter (maybe between the ages of 8 to 13). Just throwing that out there. It'd be different. I know some people would flip out over that, but it's a unique approach. A single parent protag, a la Captain Sisko style.

Also: It could make for an interesting story. What if your protag had a kid and the kid exhibited mage abilities and so the chantry took the child away? INtrigue......

Did you care at all about the brother/sister charecter? No matter what the answer to my previous question, do you think such charecter(s) are needed for DA3 or would it just be a waste of time and resources?  And Bioware I know you probably cant confirm if there is a sibling in DA3 but...is there a chance at least? O_O I will take teasing reply over nothing!

Edit: Also if some mod or dev reads this, please pass on a big thank you to Jennifer Hepler for writing a charecter like that! Bethany was like the little sister I always wanted to replace my brother with (well he was really annoying when I still lived at home :D )

As someone who is the eldest with 2 siblings I really identified with Hawke and I am like you I love Bethany  Sometimes I play DA2 just for her she was just a perfect kid sister and when she becomes a warden and just leaves you in the road I was heartbroken!  I wish my Hawke could have fought the templars until they knocked her out to save Bethany and I actually played DA2 unspoiled my first time took Bethany into the deep roads without Anders and well you know what happened.[snip for length]

As the middle child with a pair of dramatic sibs, I wanted to kick both of them in the shin and Leandra for good measure.  The PC is busy, guys.  Stop distracting her.

I enjoyed the verbal back and forth with Carver but the whole family basically threw up their hands and said, "Hawwwwwwwwke, make it better!"  :?  I know it's game dynamics and that all of your companions do more or less the same thing but it's different when you're the leader than when your mom brings you to her home town and then huddles in the ghetto until your tag-along sibling helps you make enough cash, complaining the whole way, that you can risk your life on a dwarven expedition so ma can get her old house back.

Erm, rant over.  Basically, I didn't connect with "family" in DAII and would rather not have them forced on me in the future.  I still quite enjoyed the game, don't get me wrong.  I just didn't like having that background forced on me.  It made the plot make sense, sure, but if they'd all died on the way out of Lothering I could still have made head canon for wanting to get a mansion in Kirkwall and Gamlen could still have been the best family member in the game--just the only one.  Then I could have gotten to more fun companions!  :D

Love the rivalry with Carver especially.

+1 for great truth.  It's a shame fewer folks play with Carver--the story arc with rivalry Carver, especially if you make him a Warden, is so awesome.  Touching, realistic, and plenty of opportunities for sibling snark.

Thats why I liked Legacy so much. Warden Carver is actually a good character.

Huh, that would also be quite interesting!

... Would also take these forums to new levels of wierdness.
