I only play me3 for the combat. I lost interest in the story after the first playthrough.
Insanity difficulty is still a challenge for me in some missions depending on which class I've chosen.
I do find me3's insanity much easier than the previous game though.
Why do people play on Insanity

The OP is basically saying, I don't like the color blue. Why would anybody else like it?

Would you prefer to play chess against a friend of equal skill or against a 4 year old?
Challenge is intrinsic to all GAMES. If I didn't enjoy the game mechanics I would go read a book.
This is not to say everyone should play on Insanity, but I guarantee you will have more fun if you challenge yourself a bit regardless of your gameplay "comfort zone."

I like it. I don't know what else to say. I mean I certainly understand not everyone is going to like or enjoy the harder settings and I'm glad there are lower settings so more people can experience Mass Effect. But I enjoy shooter game play and play a lot of them so I have an easier time on the harder settings. And I enjoy the challenge of the harder levels so it is fun for me.
Also yes there is some level of bragging rights between my friends and I but its all in good fun.

For me, it's entirely because of the achievements; I normally play on Casual or Normal.
There's something about seeing this, y'know:

Because it's fun. Also, because you need the challenge when it's your third/fifth/tenth playthrough and you're trying out different kinds of Shepards which use different kinds of guns.
(Although ME2 Insanity makes me wonder why Cerberus bothered with resurrecting this one flimsy human that dies so easily)

Normal difficulty just wasn't challenging enough after beating ME1 and playing through ME2 once. So I adjusted... played through ME1 & 2 on insanity and stayed there.
Has nothing to do with the story, I just felt bored with normal combat. I am by far not a youngling, looking forward to my 30th PC (if you count a C64) anniversary next year.

While I play all my RPGs on lowest difficulty and with cheats if possible I can understand why people seek challange. That doesn't mean they don't like story or do it for bragging, it is just their own taste.

I did it cause I got the EC and I was too over powered and wasn't fun one shotting brutes.

Simples: Because Bioware went out of their way to expand their player base from RPG players to FPS players who want that challenge.. I simply have my own opinions about Mass Effect difficulty and I'm curious why some people chose to play on hardest difficulty there is

Because I played as a Vanguard and all the other difficulties were way too easy for me. Imported character from ME2... and every enemy is a victim.

I certainly didn't do it straight off the bat, I think I did Normal or Veteran on each of the games first time through.
But it gave me an extra challenge on later playthroughs, particularly since I have a more souped-out Shepard to play as, and to get all of the achievements as a little completionist marker of my love for the games.
Might sound a bit "I climbed the mountain because it was there", but I just wanted to do it.
I definitely have zero problem with those that didn't. There are plenty of games that I have no interest in trying on the hardest difficulty, but for the ME series I just wanted to.

Achievements aren't meant to do anything, and I've yet to meet anyone who brags about it. The reason for me completing ME3 on Insanity was purely to see if I could do it. And, once it was complete, I got a sense of "Achievement".
That's the purpose of achievements, to make you feel good for completing something, in this case, insanely difficult.
Not to mention the challenge! I mean, who doesn't love a challenge?

After playing a game on an easier difficulty I love to try insanity. It's fun and another challenge

On 3 its challenging without getting annoying.
I'm sorry, on 3 insanity seems like normal till Priority:Earth.

I play Insanity because it's the only "difficulty" that make me consider somewhat what i'm doing. I find no entertainment in steamrolling everyone i face

Are you saying that only FPS players want a challenging game? Come on, you can't honestly believe that.

I like the challange but after playing mp for a while, insanity is nothing.
Singleplayer needs more enemies, the reapers are supposed to be overwhelming but they just dont. There should be a crap ton of normal foot soldiers aka pawns that the reapers, cerberus and geth throw at you nearly to the point of exhaustion and it forces you to conserve ammo and use your powers and squaddies more. Lord knows you get enough ammo from packs and stuff to handle it.

There are many people out there who enjoy playing through challenging difficulties and don't like the game when it's too easy. Me, i prefer Normal. It's neither too easy nor too hard.

I also like a slower pace in story-heavy games. I also like to gaze at the background or scenery.
However, I played MP for about half a year now and tried out insanity - it actually was quite fun and the insane part seems to be how Shepard can tear through all the enemies.

Play enough MP and insanity will feel 'normal' to you. I guarantee it.

I do think that it's mostly the FPS crowd that demands difficulty level escalation - as in, they always pick the highest difficulty as opposed to a difficulty that's actually enjoyable. Are you saying that only FPS players want a challenging game? Come on, you can't honestly believe that.
And no, giving every enemy tons of health and arbitrary immunities (armoured husks) does not make it more fun - it's just the cheapest way to make it more difficult. E.g. Skeleton King - he's got one attack that can instantly kill you which you can easily dodge, and a ton of healthy; as a result, the fight takes ages and one mistake will kill you but it is not technically challenging, it's just tedious.

Ah generalizations. Insanity is a letdown anyways.
