I was honestly disappointed with the Collector cruiser on Insanity then again I was playing the Mattock/Widow Soldier build.

Everyone's different and asks different things of their games. There isn't a "right" way to play. I play most games on normal or a little above: don't like them too easy, don't like them too hard (I get seriously, seriously anxious when I can't do things after a couple of runs). I think the important part is doing what is fun for YOU, and never lose sight of that.

I usually play any new game on the second-hardest difficulty my first playthrough. I think it's even more important in a game like Mass Effect, where the story is about the struggle against impossible odds. I think playing on the easiest difficulty wouldn't jive with the narrative at all. If you can just mow down all your enemies like you're a demi-god, why's everyone so terrified of the Reaper invasion?

My second playthrough of ME3 was insanity with the soldier class and it was the perfect difficulty for me. I'm surprised they don't have a difficulty above that. I must have died only 10 - 15 times through the entire playthrough. Compare that to a game like Halo 2, where a buddy and I beat the entire campaign on insanity during our off-period, and we died literally hundreds of times, possibly nearing a thousand!

I usually play on the hardest difficulty available (I hate it when you don't have all the options from the beginning) because I like the challenge.
ME games are pretty easy even on Insanity: there are just a couple of places in each game where you might have some problems (damn you, Luna Base!). DA games offer a nice challenge on Hard/Nightmare, though :)

All my playthroughs are imports, so I start out at lvl 30. On my 1st playthrough, I chose normal, but replaying it, the combat felt quite boring, so I turned up difficulty until I was sort of satisfied. This does not mean that there aren't any parts that give me a hard time, but it someho feels lame to tune down difficulty just for them.

Because I feel as if I want to earn my next cutscene. That's why I play most games on hardest difficulty from the start. I want to earn my titles, my moolah, my bling. That said, after I finish my first playthroughs I usually just mod the games to play however I want them too, difficulty not being an ultimate goal. I don't care about achievements, in fact I hate the grinding achievements, but I like the rest.

Nice reply. I always knew that, but I just needed a reminder ;)
Sometimes my OCD is hard on me (luxury problems)
Thanks

Because I want a challange.

Which I didn't get. The ME series is general is laughably easy. I honestly thought I was playing on easy once.

For me personally i think the difficulty of most games made today are way too easy, i dont want to just steamroll through a game the first time i play it, i rather fail and reload until i beat an encounter because the whole game experience (when finished) is just much more fulfilling.

Tbh i cant understand people who play games on anything but the hardest settings, whats the point in beating a game that offers no challenge?

Because it adds to the challenge. I'm an RPG player and I started playing the series on Casual. A combination of getting better and playing Mass Effect 3 (Started on Normal, wondered why it was harder but after Priority: Mars I just enjoyed the challenge to much to put it back), I'm starting to play on Normal because it's more challenging. But after squishing Saren at Virmire on Normal, I'm half tempted to turn the final fight up to Veteran or Hardcore.
Difficulty really irritates me in Mass Effect 2 especially when certain parts are easy and others impossibly hard. I am going to try Normal when I bring up my next Shepard though.

I pretty much only play Adept as well. But I wouldn't be able to stand narrative difficulty. I don't need wins handed to me. I think I'm okay with Normal in the third game being the new Veteran I just would rather have not had a narrative difficulty available for a Normal level difficulty and Veteran.

If I get to the point where my current difficulties are too easy, I will turn it up. Not for grind but for the same reason I prefer Advanced in L4D. I like a challenge but its a subjective thing. Playing on a setting that gives you a challenge is the smart thing but to the above, some people can't play on the hardest settings.

I played in on Insanity because I believed that those seemed to be the odds my Shepard was fighting against. It just made me more entrenched and invested in the game. Believe me, when trying to fend off the Reaper forces at the end, you begin to really feel how helpless that situation felt to the characters.

I do it once for the achievment. I normally play on hardcore so insanity is not much different. The reason I play hardcore is I like my enemies to have a little more challenge.

Because once you understand the game mechanics the game becomes much too easy on anything lower than insanity (with some classes even on insanity)
And there's nothing worse than a game that is too easy, especially when you are fighting a galactic war and the odds are against you.

Lol at OPs impression that insanity means dying over and over again on the same fight.. That might be what it means to you, friend. Not to others.

Different players = Different levels of ability.

Think I died twice in 30hrs last time I played insanity and both were my own stupid fault. I'm sure some don't die at all.

For the challenge. If combat's too easy the game loses its purpose; I don't want the game play itself for me.

Insanity in ME1 was mostly just standing behind crates, but ME3 and ME2 to some degree are way more dynamic. It's really fun.

Because challenge, even if it's not very difficult.

I blow through everything in the game, even on Insanity; there are difficulty spikes where I die a couple of times, but that happens less than once per playthrough. I blow through everything on the lower difficulties too, but at least Insanity forces me to strategize and puts my reflexes to use.

On anything below Insanity, it becomes a mindless shooter to me. Run, shoot, run, shoot, run... don't have to take cover, don't have to flank, don't have to use my powers strategically or think anything through (because doing all that just slows me down); I can just strafe and shoot my way through the entire game. To me, that's insanely boring, regardless of whether I'm more interested in the story bits.

Kinda wonder why the OP even asked this. Does he think that everyone is at the same skill level as he is? Historically speaking, the Mass Effect games have always been pushovers in terms of average difficulty.

I am neither an achievement ho' or bragging rights gamer, I simply love the challenge of Insanity and the feeling of achievement you gain by completing each and every part of the game on that setting.

I never do a first playthrough in Insanity/Hardest mode - due to equal parts wanting to learn the game better and experience the story without frustration first, and also most games don't let you do that mode until beating the game once at least.

I am currently playing the Witcher 2 on Hard, and froth at the bit thinking about my 2nd playthrough on Insanity.. the challenge is half the fun.

Much like a Dark Souls mentality.

Agree. If you dont upgrade your weapon its even comparable with ME2 on some maps.

Because it's fun, but I've not completed ME3 on insanity because of husks/Marauder Shields. F*ck that fight.

For fun - most of the time Normal is way too easy and like some of the other posters stated, I like to earn my storyline. And also achievements and NewGame+ bonuses.
