I just started playing MP on PC and compared to launch before all the DLCs expanded the card pools, it is frustrating and demotivating to hope to ever unlock any of the newest DLC let alone desired weapons and gear.

Before you release your trilogy edition of Mass Effect, I hope you plan to release a much more diversified pack unlock system with packs for at least as many categories as there are types of unlocks (Characters, Weapons, Gear, Consumables, Mods etc).  Many new comers arriving to MP now probably feel the same about how long and how many credits before they ever get their coveted characters or weapons unlocked.

Please address this and let us know if anything is in the works to improve the unlock system.

EDIT TO ADD THE NUMBERS:

Let me try spell it out for those who don't seem to understand the greater challenge it is to get a rare weapon maxed now compared to at launch.  I'm focusing primarily on rare and ultra rare unlocks since they have been expanded the most through the DLC releases.

In the beginning, here is what the rare/gold card pool looked like:

6 Gold Character X 5 each = 30 cards
8 Gold Weapons X 10 levels = 80 cards
4 Capacity cards X 4 each = 16 cards
7 UR Weapons X 10 each = 70 UR cards

Total Gold Card Pool = 126 + 70 UR thrown in at random

There weren't level IV consumables, gear or weapon mods at that point in the game.  It only took a matter of weeks to max and unlock gold cards and characters.

Now take a look at the pool of rare/gold cards today:

12 Gold Caracters X 5 each = 60 cards
14 Gold Caracters X 4 each = 56 cards
1 Battle Field Solder
22 Gold Weapons X 10 each = 220 cards
12 Gold Weapon Mods X 5 each = 60 cards
19 Gold Gear items X 5 each = 95 cards
4 Capacity cards X 4 each = 16 cards
7 Gold Consumables X infinity
2 X 4 UR Characters = 8 cards
12 UR Weapons X 10 each = 120 cards

Total Gold Card Pool (excluding consumables) = 508 + 128 UR thrown in at random

That is nearly a 400% increase in total gold cards not counting gold consumables taking up gold slots even when you have unmaxed characters/weapons/gear/mods etc.  That means it will likely take at least 4 times longer for a new comer to get their first maxed gold weapon or getting desired characters unlocked.  This is the daunting factor and what it feels like to try and unlock and max anything worth while now vs at launch.  I have been playing since launch on the xbox and I feel daunted now trying to start over on the PC.

Bioware needs to address this sicne they are still selling, promoting and building the game and it hasn't even launched on WII-U yet.  Please look into diversifying the store with packs targeting specific pools, the most basic and minimum pools being Character cards, Weapon cards and mods, Consumables cards (or expanded jumbo packs that include level IV ammo) and Gear cards.

It's also not only a problem for newcomers but for everyone, pretty much. PUGS REQUIRE NEW BLOOD.

Level IV ammo... Nothing better than opening a pack worth 99000 and getting 2 of theses

Once I get 2 levels of the collector sniper + rifle it's back to not spending credits..

Agreed, from a players perspective, there has to happen some reshuffeling. The System is way to top heavy atm, meaning way to many rares/ultrarares compared to commons/uncommons. For newcomers the mountain is way to high right now

They should make the oldest Rare items Uncommon when they add new Rare items. Seems pretty logical to me.

Also, as a newcomer to MP, I agree with the sentiment of this thread.

Agree, especially as the difficulty has been upped - increasing consumable use in each match. Newcomers, playing Bronze, only earning enough for jumbo equipment packs every 2 matches will never be able to make a dent in their manifest. The flipside of that is having to play PUGs with people that will choose to not buy consumables, and that won't go well.

I agree. I'm still trying to get my Asari Adept, let alone the majority of the new stuff.

Here's an idea for a minor improvement: make the one slot in the standard packs that's allocated to a consumable (i.e. missile, spec ops pack, medigel, thermal clip) always give you the one that you have the least of. It seems like I'm always running out of medigel (even though I try to avoid using it in favour of spec ops packs) because I almost never draw it from the store. Meanwhile, on the rare occasion that I use even one thermal clip pack in a match, that's always what I get next.

I think they should have Packs assigned to the diffrent types of items such as amps and characters

If you want to stock up on specific items, a good way to do it is to uninstall all DLC for items you do not wish to acquire, then spend your credits. Note that you will not be able to connect to players with differing levels of DLC, so this is something best done when you have amassed a significant number of credits to splurge with.

If you don't want to limit your compatibility options, the DLC will need to be reinstalled before you join MP matches again.

Pretty much. The few friends that I did convince to pick up the game hardly play it now because of the unlock system. It's simply too hard for newer players to unlock content with how many weapons / characters / mods / gear there are.

I have this for xbox and had it since release so I have no problem on the 360. 3 weeks ago I got this for the PC, it's so frustrating when I get a veteran pack and I get AMMO instead of a weapon/character unlock.

Oh well RNG is RNG. I only get veteranpacks when I need items and do not have enough for jumbo equips.. other than that its specs or premium specs. :/

What a nice and selfish response. This kind of attitude really pisses me of
Ever thought about the fact, that the rare pool probably doubled (just an estimate there could be even worse) since release ? So for someone starting now it is much harder than for someone who started at the beginning

Yeah whatever. FYI my manifest is looks pretty good by now, but I have been playing for quite a while. And how is it not harder for someone starting now ? The rarepool is much bigger !

It is not much better for people playing since the launch. A friend of mine who has even less time for playing this game than me unlocked the N7 Demolisher only this week, 3 month after the Earht DLC was released.

I'm definitely better off over all. But still haven't got a single level X ultra-rare weapon and my two favourite ultra-weapons are at level I (M-358 Talon) and II (Cerberus Harrier).

Besides the randomness (it doesn't feel truely random to me, more arbitrary based on some obscure factors) the main problem is how the store comes up with the selection from which it picks items. Before the Retaliation DLC was released I kept getting ammo III and IV instead of the uncommon and rare gear items that I was missing. I even got some ammo IV in one of the 10 PSPs that I bought after the DLC release this week. At that point of time I wasn't only missing a lot gear but also weapons and weapon mods.

I also think that characters should require only a single unlock. Unlocking four customisations of the new Turins is a bit frustrating if you are after new weapons.

If you play a biotic, you can go to any difficulty setting right off the bat.

Currently, the DR system makes the early-available weapons useless on higher difficulties.

No matter how you improve as a player, and how ready you are for silver/gold/platinum, you will not have effective weapons to use on those difficulties.

You're screwed until you grind out a few levels on the very few useful rare+ weapons.

I wouldnt know i cant access it.

I dont understand how it is harder...you will require the same amount of credits i used to unlock all of my rares over time.

The pool being larger doesnt affect anything except the fact that you and I will need to spend more credits.

Newcomers will actually unlock more items than i would as im at the stage now where all i get is level 4 ammo hence why i buy limited PSP's here and there until more DLC is released.
