Well, after what seems like 3-4 hours of gameplay the game starts to take it's time to load areas. First I had no idea what is going on, it was ridiculous waiting up to 15(!) minutes to load. Then I learned to quicksave and restarting the game. No need for me to reboot the system so I am not sure what is faulty here - Windows or the game engine.

Either way I have no problems with reloading every once in a while but how long do you think it will take before I smash up my keyboard or something? <_<

I never had problems with my loading times until now were I am about 3 quarters into the game, if I don't restart every hour it takes ages just to view my inventory and going from place to place is not a option.

There is something wrong here, something that needs to be fixed.

I also had weird loading times. The loading times didn't affect me until I got to redcliffe. Afterwards I would be able to play for like 30-60 minutes and then have to restart the DaO client. I ended up getting this memory optimizer from major geeks, set it to automatically fix the memory X amount of minutes. This resolved my issue with loading times. Hopefully this helps others, if not, sorry. :)

The Witcher had the same problem but the guys from CD Projekt Red were able to fix it very fast. I wonder though why bioware is so slow in addressing this.

How come it wasn't detected in beta test?

It was not detected because it only happens in the end in Denerim and Orzammar.

If you are running 1/2 way decent hardware and take the time to configure your computer and run weekly maintenence, then there is NOT a loading time problem. 15-20 seconds (maximum) to load when transitioning from one area to another is very acceptable.

I get tired of hearing people biatch , whine and moan about the game having problems, when in reality the problem is they either refuse to learn how to maintain their computers or they are too lazy to maintain their computers.

A computer is NOT a tv (thank The Goddess). It does require taking out the trash, the occasional tune up, and upgrading hardware at least once during the ownership period is nearly always a game winner.

More amusing still.... if you know what you're doing with a PC, you don't experience problems with loading times. Maybe people who just want to push the "on button" and never do anything else really should buy the consoles. :pinched:

And you're telling me that? Boy if only you knew ;) Wait till you get to play around in Orzamar for any extended periods of times.

The worst load times I have encountered are about 15 seconds when going from indoors to outdoors in cities. Otherwise I usually barely have time to read the loading screen text.

I think the biggest factor for me is that I'm running the game from an SSD drive. A good SSD drive is incredible.

3-5 minutes to load an area? Dear god something is wrong with your computer.

I'm using an intel core 2 duo 2.3ghz.. 2 gig ram on Win XP... load times have never taken longer than 25 seconds - and most areas load in under 15 seconds.

It's always good to see somebody who knows how to take care of their computer :)  Some players appear to think  steel needs no sharpening, leather never needs oiling and the 'on button" on their computer is the only thing they need to know how to operate.

I agree not all game problems are a result of the person behind the keyboard being ignorant of how to use their machines. Mechanics always get pissy when they see customers complain about the car not running right and it turns out they never changed the oil, replaced the spark plugs or air filter

...and yes I will comply with your request to "dial it back a bit".

The only thing we know is that this bug exists, but not the reason. Another thing is for sure though: It has nothing to do with HD speed. If you have an LED that signals HD activity, it's obvious that the game only reads data during the last 20 seconds or so. What it does the several minutes before, except for displaying the loading screen, remains a mystery. Hopefully BioWare at least know by now?

And please, what's with blindly defending the game against any criticism? Helps no one.

Checked the forums and didnt see any posts about this. Loading times? Between 3-5 minutes to load a area? Just going between the floors in near start (trying to avoid spoilers) up to 5 minutes to load such a small area? Is something wrong with this?

Amd Athalon 64 bit. 5000+ 2.6ghz
4 gigs ram
Vista 64 bit
Nvidia 9800 GT powersmart model
New hard drive. Checked for defrag but not needed.

No idea why it takes so long to load. Just wondering if other people are having this issue or not.

Im sitting on a Intel X25-M SSD harddrive (with the game on it), 6GB ram, a intel core i7 and a nvidia gtx275, the
problem with this game for me is that the longer i play, the longer it takes to load areas,
its like there is a buggy diskswap thingy or memory leak or something. Sometimes it even hangs on loading
screens so  i have to press esc. to get stuff moving. 5mins to load a random  encounter = pretty crappy.
But restarting the game fixes it right up, so the game has problems, might be fixed in 1.02 tho, but was
still there when i playd through the game on v.1.01. But then again, you only need  to restart the game so
its not that bad i guess.

Load times increasing gradually would make more sense to me... sort of. But that's not what I observe.

What I see is that I start a new character, I play a long time, things are fine... then suddenly I'll go to some area and sit and watch the load screen for a minute or so. And thereafter that's how long it takes. Until I start a new character.

It's good to blame the users or user hardware though. It helps keep Bioware devs free to market new DLC content with ****ing t-shirt companies.

*spoilers*

AMD Dual core 2.2ghz
8giggs ddr2 800mhz
XFX 4870 1 gig.

EVEN MORE spoilers

the longer I play the worse it gets, OR if I change areas a bunch it started getting longer and longer each area change.

I have also noticed, the dseeper in the game I get the worse and faster it gets, at the start of the game its not so bad.

memory leak?

yeah, it usually happens after, perhaps 2-3hours of playing, then it starts to take a bit more time and quickly becomes really really slow after perhaps an hour more of playing. Tho it could be set to the amount of loading transisions one makes, i dunno.

the the poster above: yeah you might be right, i didn't notice the load times increasing in the beginning of the game
but it kicked inn pretty hard just before i went to Orzammar the first time. Atleast that is where i really started to notice it.
