Orzammar questions before I mess up the lives of the dwarves

Ok, I am working on the Orzammar stuff and I would like this playthrough to turn out as good as it can. I will probably go with the other options next time, including having my MC sacrifice herself for the sake of Feraldan. Here are my questions:

I am siding with Harrowmont, I have played the dwarf noble origin, so I like his motives the best. I have been reading that he is a weak leader however. If I were to save the Anvil, does that help him as a leader? Also if I save it, how bad if the approval drop with the other characters?

Morrigan, Zevran and Oghren will approve of the Anvil being saved, while Alistair, Leliana and Wynne will dissapprove heavily.

I think that Branka will do her surface raids for "volunteers" no matter who becomes king. If anything, Harrowmond should be less succesful in reigning her in.

I like Harrowmont's motives too, but saving the Anvil doesn't really end happily for the dwarves. I would really like to have a third choice for dwarven King, because there doesn't seem to be any way to make Harrowmont a success. Didn't notice a real approval loss, but have heard if Shale is with you the results will be bad. Just help Harrowmont and tell yourself you did the best you could with the candidates you had.

Yep. Harrowmont is weak no matter what you do. Bhelen is strong no matter what. So if you want Harrowmont (the 'good' choice) you might as well destroy the anvil and take the 'good' party members. If you want to keep the Anvil, take the 'bad' or 'ruthless' party members. Don't take Shale if you want to side with Branka. After all, your character doesn't know that Harrowmont will be a weak ruler, even if you do.

Thanks for all the advice.

One more question that won't mess up anything (I hope), where are the extra nugs? I found the 5, but I read you can turn in 10 or 11.

To be honest, I can't remember how many I've found, but certainly never 10 or more (more like 6, I would guess, all right there in the commons). The only other one I ever got was the Cute Nug for Leliana, Schmooples, and now I hate it - it makes the most annoying high pitched squeaking noise in the multiverse *sigh*.

How do you get that? I got the number 10 from the guide, so I was trying to figure out if I missed any.

Please, where did you get the Nug for Leliana?

You ask the idle dwarf in Dust Town to go and catch the nug for Leliana. She has to have already expressed her desire to have one, I think.

Okay, first she has to be in your party. When in the Orzammar Commons, you can change party members without going to the camp (I mention this because I didn't realise it at first, lol). So if she isn't in your party, swap someone out for her. If she is with you when you talk to the dwarf who wants you to wrangle his nugs, this makes things easy. Just talk to her when after you agree, and you should get a conversation option about how she'd love one as a pet. But you get it anyway, so don't worry. Just talk to her in the commons, it will come up.

Then go down to Dust Town, talk to the Idle Dwarf, offer to pay him for a pet nug. Leave Dust Town and then go back (simply zoning is enough). Pay the guy for the nug. Give it to Leli. I warn you, though, it makes the most ghastly high pitched squeaking noises in camp. I hate it, lol. May not get it again.

How is Harrowmont the 'good' choice? I got the impression they were both willing to resort to some pretty unsavoury tactics, but in the end they both just wanted what was best for their people. I supported Bhelen primarily because I found it absolutely absurd that while there are wars going on and the Dwarven kingdom is nearing collapse, we still have these doddering old farts debating everything all day long. Change was needed, and Bhelen was there to provide it. Plus I kind of liked the guy. He stayed true to his word, and he's a realist.

After a chat with a merchant, I had the distinct impression that Bhelen was the better choice for the dwarves as a whole.

Another point to add is that if you intend to save the anvil, do NOT bring along Shale.

Being a golem and all, Shale gives the slight impression that she wouldn't like the thought of other dwarves being 'forced' to undergo the same process she went through as a dwarf previously. It also makes the following fight a tiny bit more difficult than before!

If you choose Bhelen what kind of epilogue do you come out with for the dwarves?

Dandy. Bhelen ends up giving incentives to the Casteless if they sign up to the military. The blostered ranks anger the warrior caste and ****** off some of the old farts, but in the end Bhelen tells them to shut up and dissolves the assembly. His strategies for both combat and economy pay off handsomely - trade goes right up and the Dwarves retake lots of territory thanks to their enlarged army.

The guy knows what he's doing.

Yeah, I always got the distinct impression that Harrowmont poisoned King Endrin... so neither are really a 'good' choice. Especially in the Epilogue when harrowmont shelters the dwarves from the surface even more, cutting off a lot of trade. If you keep the anvil, harrowmont actually orders the dwarves to raid the surface for elves and humans to turn into Golems. I don't think Bhelen does that.

From what I've heard, if you keep the Anvil and make Bhelen king, Branka refuses to make Golems soley for the king, and creates a Fortress manned by Golems. Bhelen attempts to retake it, but fails, as Golems are damn strong.

Frankly, no matter what you do, saving the Anvil of the Void is a bad thing.

Bhalen is a stronger and more progressive leader and overall better for the dwarves as a whole. But personally, he is more of a f**ked up guy. Harrowmont is a bit more of reputable character but a weaker leader and doesn't get a whole lot done for the dwarves. I sided with Harrowmont because I trusted Bhalen less but in the epilogue, looks like Harrowmont didn't do such a great job.

Yep, it's really a shame. Harrowmont doesn't act weak before your choice: he's certainly strong enough to hold Bhelen to a standstill.

Similarly, Bhelen doesn't display 'strength' just because his lackeys kill those who insult him. Sure, Bhelen shows himself capable of getting half the assembly on his side, but so does Harrowmont.

It's only after you choose that you see their difference in strength, and Harrowmont then proves himself less effective than Bhelen.
