I was in a nostalgic mood today and decided to play a little bit of DAO after supper. After heading to camp after exiting Lothering, I was swiftly reminded of one of my biggest beefs from Origins: that damn dog ALWAYS BARKING.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dog. I love him to bits. I just wish he wouldn't constantly bark when I'm trying to talk to people.

Warden: Hey Alistair, mind if I ask you …
Dog: WOOF WOOF WOOF
Warden: ... about your ...
Dog: WOOF WOOF WOOF
Warden: … time in …
Dog: WOOF WOOF WOOF
Warden: ...Red...
Dog: WOOF WOOF WOOF
Warden: ... Cliffe?
Dog: WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF

The Dog in DA2 wasn't as bad, because he'd at least take a nap now and then. But still, there'd be a few times when he'd interrupt a dramatic scene with his loud barking.

Anyways, if mabari are going to make a return in DA3, could you make him a bit quieter?

Or maybe introduce an alternative, like a dragonling or a ghast companion:whistle:

Wouldn't a ghast just giggle and snort incessantly?

Or, maybe Bioware could just code it so that the Dog is Mute during conversations?

I didn't find any issue in DAII however, only in DA:O.

Ghast-y will only make noise when practicing his martial arts techniques. Otherwise, he'll find a nice hole to burrow into and wait to spring out at passerby.

I am a dog and greatly offended by your use of the racist term "mutt."

You should be able to make it stop barking by hitting or killing it.

Why is my mind telling me that his barking is related to how much attention he gets at camp? Why do I keep thinking that?

Anyway, I wouldn't mind being able to tell Dog to shush when I go to camp/home/the bar and have him stay quiet until I leave. Then when I come back, he'll bark if I don't do it again.

Dog only did that to show Anders what he sounds like.

I do think he quiets down a bit if shown attention at camp, though that ranks up there with "Give Dog a bone and he'll find an item for you" in gaming myths.

The issue is him barking at camp, not out on the trail.

I'm not the only one to make this observation.

How dare you ask for something like this. He's speaking to you and you're not listening. I hope your Dog urinates on your leg when DA3 comes out.

I never minded Dog's barking. But then, I've always had dogs and am probably used to canine interjections at odd and sometimes inconvenient moments. Anybody who has ever had a cold, wet nose in the back first thing in the morning probably appreciates that barking is the only interruption DA:O Dog makes.
