The return of Sarcatisc/Humorous Dialogue Options

Anyway down to buisness. It has recently come to my attention that many people thought that Sarcastic Hawke in DA2 was borderine inappropriate at some points in the game. Since a voiced character is already confirmed that means the dialogue wheel will return. So I think they should keep all the dialogue personalities. That was probably the best thing about DA2. The difference in tones of your characters voice and how differently peoples Hawkes seemed.
Anyway I am hoping that with the return of the Sarcastic/Humorous dialogue options more thought is put into the writing of these lines so yes at times, to be realistic, it comes across as inappropriate. But most of the time its just a healthy anecdote to deal with the Topic at hand however dire it may seem. While I am on the dialogue wheel, please for the love of god no AUTO DIALOGUE! Once in a while fine but all the time NO.
What do you guys think?

The completely inappropriate nature of sarcastic/humorous Hawke's remarks made them all the funnier.
If you don't want to be completely awkward at serious moments, opt for a peaceful or angry comment instead, the humor lines are appropriate most of the time.

I'd prefer it if the tones were switched around so that charming was the main tone and sarcastic responses were more situational.
I suppose you're just one of those types that doesn't see the laughter in slaughter.

As to auto-dialogue, I'd like them to refine personality types if it stays, maybe creating comments accounting for secondary personality trends. Perhaps unfeasible, but it'd be nice if the game figured out I was playing a smart-ass good guy (a la Spider-Man or Nathan Fillion's Castle) or just a depraved jackass (a la Deadpool or House).

I liked sarcastic Hawke ("What's a Mekel?") a lot, but, as has been suggested before, I would like to know exactly what s/he's going to say before it's said. Summaries often steered me wrong, leading to more insensitive jokes than I intended. Similar things can be said for the aggressive options -- sometimes when you wanted to be tough you were instead a colossal d--che.

I think I really do prefer Deadpool in any case presented, ever.
If you're looking for Castle or Spiderman, you'll get a good mix using Diplomatic and Charming personality instead of the Wildcard.

One of my absolute favorite moments of the game was when Aveline calls Hawke out for that after you leave the Chantry.
"It's pretty late? You ass."

Absolutely. I opted for more diplomatic/helpful lines in much of Act II simply due to the nature of many of the main quests being kinda, well, serious. But I was kind of bummed to discover that doing so 'stacked' the diplomatic personality more heavily and effectively evaporated my humorous/sarcastic Hawke's situational funny lines, especially during party banter. I'd like to think that my Hawke would be appropriate where it mattered but still able to have a joke with friends and companions.
And Hubert (Bone Pit owner/co-partner), of course. That guy's totally serious response to my tongue-in-cheek suggestions were priceless.
I like the way the personality resets itself a little bit at the start of each act, though. I thought that was a neat way of reflecting how the changing times/roll of the years might temper Hawke's personality a bit ... or not.

Also on the case of dialogue the little summaries not being clear enough I agree. What if I want to make a tension breaking joke but than it comes out and its the most vile joke ever all because I thought my character was gonna say one thing but said something else. In that case I would be able to pick a diplomatic/peaceful line in order to compensate.

I also didn't care for Hawke's "witty" or "sarcastic" lines. Far too often, they seemed to make Hawke come across as a silly dunderhead whom no one could take seriously. I want to be sarcastic and badass at the same time. =(

I didn't like the three rigid personalities. Hawke came across as either one-dimensional or having MPD, depending on whether you consistently picked one color or different ones. I liked it better in DA:O where there was no morality system--er, personality system to box you in. You could pick different responses based on your mood at the time to convey more subtleties, complexities, layers, character growth, etc. Without having to battle the "You picked x most of the time, which means you must be like that all the time" autodialogue and personality stacking.

Well, consistently (or mostly) picking one option can work if you have a good reason for it, like the idea that the sarcasm is actually a coping mechanism (it's what I went with with my Fenris rivalmancing mage Hawke and it was actually an interesting addition to the character). And if you go to the chantry during Demands of the Qun on your own, sarcastic!Hawke gets a very... interesting monologue.
And more badass snarkyness would be pretty cool, I agree, as much as I liked Hawke's sillyness.

I liked sarcastic Hawke a lot -- that's my favourite personality, in fact. But yeah, better paraphrases would be good. (But that's something that is needed in general and not just for sarcastic!PC.) Also, while I generally adored Boulton's voice acting, mixing personalities, particularly aggressive with both / one of the other two could have... interesting results. aggressive and Investigation options as well... Or sarcastic and Investigation... Hmm.Faerunner wrote...
