The one thing I like about the multiple companions that overlap is that each can be given a different set of abilities, which in my opinion, gives me a greater number of people to use. I can choose different skill trees for the two NPC''s that are the same giving me a wider variety of abilities to use. If I only have just one from each class then that makes it to where you only choose certain ablilites and you are stuck with those that you choose. So for example if I only had Anders I would be stuck with only his abilities where as when Merrill was added, I got a whole different skill tree that I could use.

See people have different opinions, some people absolutely hate certain companions, which others love. Having a Variety is good to apeal to different sensibilities as well as replay value. Another thing is that you may or may not recruit every companion. Some people walked right past Sten, others killed Zeveran on the spot. You could refuse Garrus in ME 1 or simply ignore the dossiers in ME2. You could tell Anders to leave kirkwall, etc. This means people who choose these options intentionally or otherwise end up with one less companion.

As long as Each companion is well fleshed out and engaging bioware could have twenty or two. Although ten seems like a reasonable number to me especially if some are DLC companions.

Who says we're going to have 10 companions?

The Survey. But then again that's subject to change isn't it?

I think more restricted companions makes having more companions desirable.

It's annoying if you miss out on your only two handed weapon user because you skipped a dubious sounding quest in act 1.

Actually, you can't ignore the dossiers, they are mandatory missions. You can recruit only two of the three after Horizon if you want, and ignore the DLC ones. But you can't beat the game without Jacob, Miranda, Jack, Mordin, Garrus. Grunt (even if you leave him in the tube).

DAO had 9 and so did DA2. I don't see how adding 1 more will just kill it.

Agreed.

When they say "up to ten" companions, do they mean that there will be a multitude of characters to choose up to ten companions from or that there is a locked set of up to ten companions to choose from? I really hope it is the former.

I think if you can ignore Thane, Samara, and Tali because the Collector Ship mission needs you to have finished at least 5 missions after Horizon to attack. At which point you can go to the Dead Reaper and then through the Omega 4. So you can skip those three.... and Kasumi and Zaeed, but you must get the others. And you could leave Grunt in his tank... and sell Legion.

Actually, **** you can ignore a lot of those guys. Huh... maybe I should try that for a run-through...

As long as we can customise them to our liking, a smaller number is fine.

No it's not. It's what he had in DA:O more or less and all of those characters were completely fleshed out and amazing.

ME2 had 11 companions with 2 possible DLC additions. It worked perfectly.

It should be 12 companions. The OP does't know what he/she is talking about.

Baldur's Gate 2 had sixteen companions and to this day is totally amazing. I wouldn't worry too much about numbers.

I don`t think that 10 companions are too much. First of all, this gives you a choise - not only considering different classes/specializations, but also because of different personalities. I liked BioWare games for many things, characters being one of them. So, if they'`ll be all done properly and get roughly the same amount of content, I don`t see any problems. But it`s all imo, because I really like PC- NPC interaction and different characters you can interact with. Makes the game more interesting for me.

Up to 10 companions will join your party this time out, with battle groups including as many as 4 support characters, doubling the usual BioWare party size.

Well, then I would say don't trust everything you read in that source. It's incorrect.

Either way, if we thought the cost of an individual companion made having X number of companions too expensive then we would have less companions. If we thought that having more visual customization of companions was a feature worth spending some money on, and which would get us some bang for our dollars, then we would spend it.

It's more convincing when you guys just ignore these threads.

6 (Six) Companions would be Great! 2 (Two) of each class... and a Mabari Hound ;)

1) Shale
2) Sten
3) Alistar
4) Leliana
5) Zevran
6) Morrigan
7) Oghren
8) Wynne
9) Dog
10) Logain

Spelled a few of those wrong. That's ten though. If you include DLC characters and choice characters like logain then 10 isn't a big deal.

No, 6 is too limited.

No 6 is too limited.

I agree. There would be only too people you can't bed. And my dream of making an all mages party would be crushed again.

Between 8-10 as far as i'm concerned would be workable.

I love the idea of more and varied companions as well as different party sizes for different situations. Ten sounds like a good number to me, allowing for me to run through the game in a a variety of ways and try permutations of party members to unlock evey delicious morsel of conversation and party banter.

Besides, more sompanions equals more LIs, right? :D

I think that would be enough with 6 companions and we'd have two squads for missions and many combinations between them, which would give us a plus, for example: 1 mage to heal and another to destroy... I think that this would be enough, and thus would obtain more developed characters throughout history!  :wizard:

So outright dismissing it is less convincing than just ignoring it?
