Character Origins...

If the world is made bigger, then surely an origins system like the first game would greatly improve the story and RP aspects of an RPG. If the playable world is bigger, and we see more parts of Thedas (such as Kal-Shirok, Par Vollen, Tevinte etc.) then we could have sub-origins...
Example, in DAO we had Human Noble, Mage, Dalish, City Elf, Dwarf commoner, Dwarf Noble... there backgrounds were set, but in DA3 or any future DA title, we could have these (and maybe more) origins to choose from, with the extra of being able to choose your Human Nobles family... what Alienage your elf came from, what clan your Dalish elf was part of... maybe your dwarf noble or commoner is from Kal-Shirok maybe they are not commoners or nobles at all, what if they were warrior caste...
Each one sub-origin could have a seperate story... perhaps there could be a major plot line or recruitable companion that relies upon your origins... for example (if this was in DAO) the Human Noble could have found his/her brother and together they could have retaken their home... used it as a base of operations and used it to gain more support in the landsmeet...

It isn't likely that the kind of 'Origin' backgrounds we had for The Warden will return for the protagonist of Dragon Age III, considering the return of the voiced protagonist.

The developers have said that they will be repeating many of the formulas from Dragon Age II, so I don't think the kind of freedoms that were avaliable for The Warden will be options for the Inquisitor.

There have been several threads about this, and I seem to recall reading some mention by David Gaider that there is still the possibility of different races even though the protagonist is voiced.
Although I'd love to see multiple PC race options, even if we must play a human, the replay value would certainly benefit greatly from various playable origin stories, so I'm hoping we get them.

If the protagonist is going to be the Inquisitor, it's likely going to be another human protagonist, who will be religiously Andrastian like Hawke. I don't see an Elven or Dwarven protagonist serving as the leader of the Inquisiton, if the rumors about Dragon Age III are accurate.

I would love to have origins back, but I think BioWare has pretty much said no. We'll more likely have background options a la Shepard from Mass Effect (sigh), so count your blessings where you can find them.
Better than nothing I suppose..I wish at least different races were options

Considering that they confirmed a voiced protagonist it would very costly to hire 2 voice actors, male and female, for every race(If we assume that they want variety in the different races). Plus they have to say the same lines in different ways to account for all the possibilities. I would like to see Origin stories as much as the next guy but its very unlikely. But idk, I have been proved wrong before.
According to David Gaider, race options are not primarily limited by having a voiced protagonist.
The reasons for limiting the PC race options have to do with the preparing multiple model variations for the different races and composing cinematic cut scenes for PCs of varying height.
David Gaider wrote...
While we haven't yet discussed the inclusion of player race options, I will point out that if the assumption is that race options are primarily limited by VO that's incorrect. It plays a part, certainly, particularly with the already-established accents, but the difficulty with player races primarily relates to the amount of model variations required and to cinematics (height differences between the races).
None of these are impossible to overcome, provided we believe the expense is worth the pay-off. Obviously there are those among you who feel this is so (and since the expense is the same for you, it must seem like a no-brainer from your side of things), so we'll see.
In any case, even if we end up with humans being the only playable race, incorporating various origin stories can still greatly improve the replay value and provide a different perspective on the rest of the game if you are playing a character who starts out as an Orlesian chevalier, for example, or a thief who is in trouble with the authorities, etc.

I have to say, I love voiced characters (DA2 and Fable 3 the voiced characters made these games for me) and I think Bioware would gain a lot from hiring 2 for every race or having a bunch for each gender and letting us choose them (sort of like DAO but with actual dialog) They have disappointed a lot of players in a lot of ways on some of their more recent games... if they done something like this they would reclaim some of their lost honor...

We better. This is the one thing that sets DA apart from everything else, and it was and is the best roleplaying aid I've ever seen in a game. I want six origins. Failing that, at least three with a significant branch so that I'll get something important to my character out of playing it twice, because I am definitely intent on six playthroughs. If we get anything at all like DA2, the absolute worst failing of which was the lack of origins (killed replay, along with the end battles against both sides instead of one), then I'll have to forget about ever enjoying a DA game anywhere near as much as I did DA:O.
That said, it's practically impossible to do them in as expansive a way as you suggest in the OP in a satisfying way, because of the time and money it'd require. Plus, I'd rather get a set of new origins with new stories from new places for every game out. No need to see them all at once, even if we could. :-)

I always hope beyond hope that one day, game devs will stick it to the man and take all the time they need to get the game perfect... it would be infinately better if EA decided that a response like the one they got from Origins was worth the time it takes, and let BW make the game in their own time... they may ask for a game to be pushed out every year or two, but they will always have to re-invent it for newcomers, as the way they do it now pissess us old-timers off...
Perhaps if they applied some of the logic in games to process of making a game, they will realise, it is better to have one Starfang 2Hander sword then it is to have 10 bronze greatswords... as the Shaperates of Orzamar would say, one Golem is worth a dozen dwarves in a fight... quality beats quantity, if you 100% satisfy your customers, almost every one of them is likely to come back for your fututre games, not only that, but they will be happy waiting 3-4 years per game, because they know it will be worth the wait, and they know they can get the most out of your previous titles while they wait... after more then 25 playthroughs on 2 platforms, I am still learning and finding new things in Origins, and I am still enjoying the game...
Wishfull thinking at its best my friend...
