Third spot was up in the air. I rotated through everyone, regardless of traditional party usefulness, because I liked all the characters.

DA3:
If Cullen is on board as a tank, I'll probably roll with him. I'll want a rogue (I would like to see Nathaniel back, but won't be too disappointed if it doesn't happen because I love new characters). This Iron Bull fellow sounds like a two-hander, which I'll probably take along for DPS. I think I'm probably going to play a healy mage this time around--in general I've always leaned toward caster classes (obviously) but I don't usually do the healing/support thing, so it'll be something relatively new for me.

Granted, my dream team in DAII ended up being much different than I had planned it pre-release, so I'm looking forward to DAIII surprising me in that regard. However, Oscar Wilde is an absolute necessity.

Honestly, if Bioware pulls an Awakening-esque Kristoff/Justice twist with Cullen at the start of DAIII I'm going to be so, so pleased. Imagine the irony.

I never had an 'ideal/dream' team in either game. I tried to mix it up based off a mix of roleplaying and logic. Like I didn't take Morrigan to the Circle for obvious reasons and when going through the Deep Roads I went with with Shale, Alistair, Oghren and myself due to three of us being immune to the taint and the other desperately seeking his wife. In Dragon Age 2 I almost never took Merrill or Anders to the Gallows. Aveline on my questionable quests like lyrium smuggling or something; and so on with other party members.

I'd say in DA:O my most used party members were Alistair, Leliana and Morrigan. In Dragon Age 2 it was probably Varric, Isabela and Anders.
