In DA2, my rogue Hawke tended to roll with Fenris and Anders, but the last party member could be either Sebastian or Aveline depending on how I was feeling, and I'd substitute someone else if I felt the story called for it. For maximum story impact, though, I think one's dream team should be a warrior Hawke with Varric, Isabela, and Anders. You've got to have Varric because he is supposed to witness everything, right? Isabela and Anders have immense impacts on the story of what happens in Kirkwall so to me they seem essential too. Warrior Hawke can help to keep them all from getting squished. ;-)
DA3? Who knows? In the interests of balance, I'd like a rogue protagonist to make sense as a member of the dream team for once, so let's say that happens. A templar would be great, so let's have one of them as a party member too. Maybe Cullen or Cassandra? We'd want a mage of some description, certainly, but who could we possibly get to work with us given that we have a templar in the party? Of course, we don't know if we would be on the side of the Inquisition or not... So either the templar or the mage might be renegades from the point of view of their organisations. The last person should be a former companion from a previous game. My fangirl heart begs for Alistair, but people would can be dead probably won't make it as companions... Whoever it is, if the other two dream companions feature heavily in the mage-templar conflict then this person should be aligned with a different faction. Maybe the qunari or the Tevinter Imperium? Maybe they're a free agent?
