Poser BVH libraries are huge. It would be ideal to have a tool that will convert BVH poser animations into compatible ANI files for use in the dragon age toolset.

BIP (3dsmax) also has a huge library.

I wish I had the programming expertise to tackle such an endeavor but alas I'm just a simple client/server programmer for business applications.

Being able to add new animations to the dragon age toolset would be ideal.

With that I need some sleep...

a bvh file importer/exporter would be nice.

i don't know if the formats are compatible; i know there's a 3dmax mao-something importer/exporter for animations. would bvh be difficult to translate? it is a widely-used format.

yes, take a look at eshme's importer/exporter. Eshme's put in a huge amount of work to get custom animations a possibility in DA and is always improving the tool. I've been using it for static props, but I'm looking to use it for animations shortly. I understand they've been working for a while and the recent update has improved the animation stuff greatly so i understand.

The tool is a script which works in 3ds max and GMax (though ive heard its not compatible with 3ds max 2011)

I cannot be able to convert BVH files to be used with the DAO bonesystem. In MAX the BVH files are used with strictly dedicated systems called "Biped" (but i have to investigate better this feature).
Because of you are talking about Poser: if Poser has a .FBX or 3DS export feature, i have written a custom script for MAX, to transfer animations from a custom skeleton to the DAO bonesystem. This could be a temporary solution if you are interested.
