Wouldn't know. I have a "live dynamite" policy with Abominations in that I run away and don't stick around to watch them explode. Well, at least not up close. When they grab a melee-happy Krogan, there's not much I can do, is there?

well the "run away" policy doesn't work every time...but i try to be carful not to detonate them if a team mate is near them.

Here's a list of things people have found to prevent the boom:
Batarian Heavy Melee - remove head
Sword melee - remove head
Headshot - remove head
Geth Heavy Melee - melt
PPR and CSR - turn to goo
Freezing - turn into ice
Stomp action - remove head
...you get the idea...

Will they still explode if you successfully break free from their grab and smash their heads with your foot? That counts as "aiming for their heads", right?
I believe they don't explode that way. Or at least that's what I've noticed.

They don't explode when you curb stomp em after a grapple. They only explode when they die by any other method that didn't involve their head exploding from either the curb stomp grapple or a normal headshot from a weapon, heavy sword melee, batarian melee or a grab kill.

No problem! There may be more ways to prevent the explosion, but I am unaware of them if they exist...
EDIT: Forgot one!! the Reegar!!

Also fun: Detonating a PA with a BE to send them flying. Gives a whole new meaning to biotic artillery.DarklighterFreak wrote...
It is so fun to troll ppl w that, i mean stasising them right in front of that scared engineer, and blowing their head off w a paladin, i seen ppl hitting ops survive packs in that situation xDD
Have to be careful though to not use the detonation as a panic button too often. With AF the abomination is always primed when it comes near, so a quick throw is sometimes just too tempting...but I always revive the team mate that got the flying surprise gift afterwards.^^

Unless you headshotted itGottvonHoff wrote...
Oh, so stomping them in the head actually disables their kaboom. Helping a teammate who's grabbed by an abomination is actually a bad idea!
Would these following effects set off or disable an abomination?:
Warp (body disintegrates)
Fire (body disintegrates)
Collector Sniper (possibly also SMG) (body disintegrates)
Acolyte (body disintegrates)
Carnage (gibs)
Scorpion (gibs)

Warp (body disintegrates) - no
Fire (body disintegrates) - no
Collector Sniper (possibly also SMG) (body disintegrates) - CSR? yes, already said
Acolyte (body disintegrates) - worth trying
Carnage (gibs) - yes
Scorpion (gibs) - worth trying
I have tried fire and warp, the body falls over then exploses.
Forgot about carnage, the body shattes, it works. Already mentioned the CSR melting them.
Haven't tried the Acolyte or Scorpion yet though, they are worth a try.
