There are reasonable sized error bars there due to some unknowns. For example, you could be in the top 8.1%, but still be classified as in the top 9%. So 3490 at 8.1% would give you just over 43000. Not a huge difference, but I just thought I'd mention it!

All-Player PC is a bit low, I'm N7 #51.798 and in the Top 11% which results in 470.809 PC-player ever touching the MP, fits somewhat with RussianZombeh (433.333 total) as well.
Shows how inaccurate the whole thing is though, with only a couple of N7 # causing a difference of 40k.

Assuming I am the last to qualify for Top 11 it would be 431k players total on PC.

So much wrong with that statement.  PC has the highest percentage of active players, though granted it's a smaller number to count towards weekend operations... and PSP?  lol?

More OT... I wonder how this would compare to other primarily SP games with multiplayer features, like Gears of War or Uncharted.  I did a cursory google, but failed to find anything as easy to draw conclusions with.

Those numbers are interesting. 100k active players on Xbox does seem quite low for a title like Mass Effect. Monday Night Combat, an indie arcade game released over 2 years ago, still gets about 50k entries to the weekly leaderboards (which only shows people who have been active that week).

I don't think this is accurate. You could be anywhere in the top nine percent. You can be on the border of 8/9% or 9/10%. Depending on how big the playerbase actually is, your results may be completely different.

So completely off topic but is anyone else shocked to see their total time played? I guess I need to get a life.

It really isn't surprising this game has such a low player retention. The way the store and low payout on lower difficulties would easily drive a lot of casual players away, as well as people not willing to put up with the grind. It is a shame, but I can't see BioWare/EA changing their ways, besides its far to late to do anything to get those players back.

I still regularly see new, and I mean brand new, players in MP, not just on Bronze. A friend from work just picked up the game, just to play MP. Also, people may come back from time to time. As long as there are enough people to play with and enough income is generated to keep it interesting for BW to come up with new stuff, all is well with the world.

I can't see your profile, so I dunno. Personally, not that worried. Time spent doing something you like, is not wasted at all.

The amount of players calculated from the N7 leaderboard could include just people that wanted to try out the MP and played a couple matches after launch but were never constant players. So I don't think it's as representative of players leaving the game since a great deal maybe only played MP very little.

PC has the highest retention rates, even if it's lower than the total active players on Xbox it means that PC players are more loyal.

Numbers aren't a quality measuring stick of a community anyway. I've been happily involved in the RE5 community 3+ years post-release, despite the fact that I knew just about every player still playing by name. The community's incredibly small, but also incredibly dedicated.

*All of these are in regards of challenge points on Xbox 360.*

For example, the guy in first place. He's in the top 1%, but his rank is #1.

1x100=100. I don't think that's the actual size of the playerbase.

I'm in the top 1% ranked #248.

248x100=24,800. Not the actual playerbase either.

I found the player for xbox who is currently on the border for 1% and 2% (his name is rymajn at #1,505)

1505x100=150,500. This is the actual size of the current playerbase.

So 150,500 is a lot bigger than 103,000.

I have like four or five people on my friend list that tried the demo for a couple of days, and never ever played again. Yet there they are, on the list.

I don't think it's right to say that the multiplayer has "lost its player base", when a big percentage of that list were never technically part of the base to begin with.

That's really not unusual. Most of those people were never going to stay anyway. You see those kinds of numbers with any sort of service - people sign up, or open it up once in this case, and don't ever return.

On the other hand, the challenge leaderboard only counts those who played since the release of the DLC, so the current active playerbase is ~39K.

Not sure this is correct - I was shown as being in the top 30% on the challenge leaderboard in the N7 HQ before I'd even downloaded the DLC.  I'd obviously completed no challenges at that stage!  (With the exception of the previous weekend operations, which are shown down at the bottom of the main Challenge page.  Whilst these don't directly give challenge points I assume that had something to do with that 'top 30%' rating.)

So, I'm not sure what this does to the calculation, but I don't think the percentages are as straightforward as they may seem...

(Actually, it may be that it tracks those playing since the patch: I had downloaded that, but then only played a couple of games.  Given that they were released so closed together, 'since the patch' and 'since the DLC' pretty much come to the same thing, so it could well be that you are right after all!)

That's actually really good for a (mostly) non-competitive game like this

204K players is a good number for a not multiplayer focus game. And EA and Bioware are learning a ton the stuff, because the lottery mode is akin to free to play models that people talk so much.

Actually, the N7 leaderboard includes everyone with a registered game, regardless of whether or not they actually ever played the co-op multiplayer...
If you check the in game leaderboard (where you can actually scroll up and down) and go to the bottom, you'll notice there are a lot of N7 0, those are people who registered the game (so factor in the leaderboard) but only ever played singleplayer...
Since challenge points go hand in hand with multiplayer usage, these people, who appear in the N7 leaderboard, don't actually factor in when it comes to challenges, basically making it seem like the playerbase shrunk more than it actually did...

To have a more accurate projection you'd have to take the N7 leaderboard and take out all the N7 0 (and likely all N7 1 too, since they are those that "looked and left") and make the comparison again...

just looking at the numbers myself and one of my friends is ranked 124624 on xbox globally and that he is in the top 83% but has yet to play any challenges. so these numbers are skewed somewhat
