I thought you can't play mp if you don't have the latest dlc downloaded.

If they didn't downloaded the DLC, I doubt they play the game anymore.

No you dont have to dl DLC, you are not forced to download DLC. (Cert wouldn't allow it)

Try uninstalling all your DLC and match make, still players playing without the DLC

That's... crazy. The last two batches of DLC have both been so good:wub:

I see. Thanks for the explanation. So does that mean if you didn't download a particular mp dlc, you just don't get the maps/weapons/characters that come with the dlc?

Just wait until we have only ~200 concurrent players in the world and BioWare matchmakes according to region. We will play with the same group of people every night, not by choice, though continuing to play is a choice. :D

But EA would shut down that necropolis, as is their policy.

I'm now just imagining there's an entire subculture of players who are only playing the original multiplayer, Discussing the ins and outs of the black widow ad infinitum.

also it includes everyone that was not a part of the player base and was there only for galactic readiness, and the new only includes people who have completed a challenge

I would imagine this is an extreme minority.  It can't be more than 5% of the player base that refuses to download any DLC but still remains active in multiplayer.

That's an interesting thing to see. It explains why finding players takes a bit longer these days. I will never ever leave til I can no longer play. I will stay loyal!

What percentage of people pretty much only play for the operations? Since there has been no operation yet since the DLC release, your numbers do not reflect that player base.

You know...I was curious so I uninstalled Retaliation and then did a "search gold games"....

On PC it took longer than post Retaliation but still under 4 minutes....why wouldn't someone download FREE dlc?

Considering matches have a max of 4 people in them, i think 39K (I'm a PS3 user) is more than enough.

sounds about right

People try to stay away of new DLC because that makes getting weapons to X that MUCH harder,  they will install it as soon as they get that sweet weapon they want

Does that mean the player base can float back and forth from Pre-Retaliation to Post-Retaliation?

Bear in mind, Mass Effect 3 continues to be discounted. This means a new group of gamers that refuse to pay $60 for a game are starting to come on board at the $30 price, which is much more reasonable. I have lots of friends that will only pay bargain bin pricing. When the game drops to $20, more players will come.

I wonder if Bioware even gets to decide how much they charge for a game and when, or if that's up to EA.

Bryan, that's not my experience on the PC. Origin will automatically and without asking download and install all DLC available. Period. You can pause the download, but when you restart Origin, the download will restart too.

well i dont go on that much no more as they want me to stop camping and playing the game i want to play, and want me to grind lower levels or buy there packs....mwahaha

anyway doesnt seem alot of players to be fair and with Halo 4 and black-ops on the horizen it may go lower.

Try this... On XBoX ... Go to settings, then memory, delete Retaliation... Farm all you want...
Re down load the DLC when you want to work on your Challenges/Banners...
Everyone gets what they want!!!

In my experience it only does that for DLC that you have initiated dl'ing at least once

Good analysis. I'm curious if a Mass Effect MP game could even sell on it's own without getting a free ride from the SP.

thanks Bryan I thought you had to install the DLC to be able to play with anyone.

but I guess it's actually you're only able to play with poeple when they have the same version of the game.
