But what if my character doesn't want any kids? And what about homosexual characters, will the children be adopted? Do I get to tell them that?

This was part of the reason why I made the suggestion to have the child be like an apprentice from either the mage's side or the templar side. Over the course of the game you could have a parent/child relationship or strictly mentor/apprentice depending on how you acted with the kid.

You see, this is a good suggestion! Not like 'Cullen for LI', or 'pet griffin' nonsense. If ever there's a forum suggestion that makes it into Dragon Age 3, I hope they do something like this. I can see the idea of playing a character who's son or daughter turns out to be a mage, whom inevitably gets turned in to the Chantry working well. Even if the child isn't the protagonist's blood relation.

Thanks Trista!

Edit: So much for your mission to fill the forum with useless threads!

Thanks. ;)

I think I'd
be most attached to my protag's child - even if the child grew to be 17
or 18 if there's a 5 year span in the game (or longer). It'd definitely
create many conflicts of interest. Say the child (age 16) breaks out of
the chantry and you corner him/her and he/she begs for your help. Then
your hero has to make a decision: either protect your kid or do what the
chantry expects of you as Inquisitor. It can all go in so many
different directions, really.

edit: What's also interesting is
that you'd be more than just Inquisitor, Champion, Warden, or the like.
You'd be Mother, or Father, to your kid, and that title will deliciously
conflict with your official title. Mother/Father (though not glamorous)
carries the most weight.

firstly: cool idea :) (also i
would want this brought in another way: the child could be one from a
close ally/friend that dies at the start of the game, making the child
your ward...or you could rescue a child/teenager somewhere and he/she
could become your ward and later maybe even your apprentice or send
him/her to one of your companions to train (if you do not need another
of your class))

secondly: the chantry might expect some things
from an inquisitor, but he/she is still not a member of the chantry (the
inquisition was there before the chantry, they just decided to kind of
"merge"...they can still split off from the divine and the chantry at
large!)...so yes, i would tell the chantry to go to hell!

thirdly:
this would give us a second player character to do missios with
(sending our apprentice (like in star wars with the sith/jedi) while we
do the more important or prestigious stuff...) which would be good drama
wise, because we could have stuff that happens at the same time - maybe
even see stuff that happens at the same time through different eyes
(like our "apprentice" sneaking around in the shadows during a big ball
or other formal function while the (Main-)PC distracts people by just
being there, talking to people (doing some intrigue etc.), while our
second PC say steals something from the place or poisons the food (and we have an anti-toxin) etc. - possibilities would be endless with this :)
