I always frowned upon the whole idea of every cycle needing to be destroyed because of synthetics rebelling against their creators because I found it hard to believe that every cycle having the races build organics that will destroy everything. So that part of the Biowares reasoning for the catalysts motives was a little unbelievable in my opinion because i simply don't find it believable that every cycle will create A.I.s similar to the geth, or the reapers, that will rebel against them and wipe them out.
So the catalyst pretty much said they were there to make sure organics didn't fully wipe themselves out with their own creations. However, now I recently thought about how machines rebelling against organics didn't necessarily have to be A.I's, but instead the machines "Rebelling" through the weapons created, polloution, nuclear winters, and perhaps even dark energy mentioned due to mass effect technology that caused a star to decay.
Is this a valid possibility? Because I always felt that it was implied that the inevitable destruction of organics from synthetics was due to A.I.'s....but it was actually never clearly said HOW synthetics rebel in each cycle
