Sorry, but this isn't your game. Only BioWare decides who comes back or not. Not you.
I personally want all of the characters back somehow. ^^

Sebastian and maybe Shale could work as a return.
Sten (Arishok), Leliana, and Morrigan will be important no doubt but I can't see them as party members.

So in your opinion the warden and hawke shouldn't return?
Sigh.
And the only way I'd want to see Isabela return would be seeing her along with some Qunari, as she was converted into one when I gave her to Arishok (if the tale of her stealing the tome again is true, then I'm going to have to kill Arishok.
And for sure, I'd like to see my Warden meet up with Anders and Merrill (as mine was a dalish elf).
I'm a huge fan of the Grey Wardens and Hawke. I think the Grey Wardens should always be a part of the Dragon Age world.

I know many fans want newer fresh start characters, but there are just as many who want the return of the past characters at some compacity or another. I think DLC would remedy all of this debate.
Leliana, yes! I'm not too sure about Zevran he makes my characters a little too uncomfortable.

90% of those characters are dead. From those you linked in Origins, only Oghren is alive for me. And from DA2 only Isabella, Varric and Sebastian.
Making a DLC about them, would be quite *limiting* i would say.
Dragon Age gave you choices to the outcome of certain things that can affect your party. So, to say 90% is dead is guessing or speculation.
Bioware (i think Gaider was it) already said the books and comixes are not canon. They are just fiction upon fiction. In my world, Alistair is dead, Morrigan is dead, Wynne is dead, Shale is dead, Meril is dead, Anders is dead (again!), etc... This means that Asunder never happen -> Rhys is probably dead as well, and Cole stil haunts mage tower , while Evangeline is banging some hot templar (maybe Cullen). Sten is NOT an Arishok as its portraid in comics, because i killed him. And Warden can't make cameo, because she is dead as well. The only survivors i got from Origins are Loghain, Orlesian Warden Commander, Oghren, Sigurn and Velana (Anders/justic got owned in DA2). In DA2 everyone died or end up even worse(Fenris), except Varric, Isabela, Aveline and Sebastian(he run).
And now some genius wants to suggest making a DLC about a character that i don't have alive. And i am sure i am not the only psychopatic freak that is murdering everyone that got in a way(or sometimes not even that is needed
Those characters can be in side quests, or affect somehow main quest, but cannot be again a key-plot item/npc. Its already retarded that Liliana reatach her head after i beheaded her. At least i was paitient with Anders and better burned down Amaranthine and later killed him in Gallows.

This characters are not dead in my worlds. DLC is optional for a fan to buy. These characters are dead in your world . So, don't buy the DLC. The people who want it shouldn't be limited to not having it.

I would say the books are canon but not the comics. No serious author writes a novel with more than 400 pages to an existing fantasy universe and states afterwards that it didn't happen.
So, have you read the books and can you confirm that the series follows the books? If so this site should be for fans of the book who played the game. This would also mean all the ideas fans are giving for Dragon Age 3 should be structured around the last book, any other feedback is not need?

It happens in the games of people who had set their playthroughs to the circumstances of the book. For example, they can't make Asunder canon in my playthrough because Shale is a friend of Wynne there, and I didn't recruit Shale.Bfler wrote...

Unless I'm mistaken, when you give her to the Arishok, word has it that she steals the tome again and jumps ship.Akugagi wrote...

The only exception (for me) would be Sebastian, and ONLY if he has a small cameo, tells the Inquisitor that he retook Starkhaven, married my Hawke, and they have like twenty kids.

I'm not going to predict who we will (or should) see in DA III since we know nothing about the plot, but I can't see any convincing narrative reason for characters such as dog, Fenris or Sigrun to have any role in a future game beyond a, "Oh, it's you! Hi!", which, again, is the sort of thing which needs to be moved away from.

Yeah, though it is just a rumour. Guess we'll find out whether it's true or not in DA3, I truly hope it isn't true, because it sounds just way too impossibleMACharlie1 wrote...

Offical canons can change. Because the owners of said franchise change directions, switch publishers, etc.
Star Trek and Star Wars novels are NOT considered canon and the writers who write novels for them openly know and admit this. They try their best to make sure that their novels stay in canon, but I think it's a safe bet that there probably are Star Trek and Star Wars novels that were once considered part of the canon when they were originally published, but are no longer considered canon because the owners of the franchise changed the official canon (TV shows and movies) of those franchises.
Harmony Gold, the owners of the popular anime series Robotech, have stated had the last few Robotech novels published are no longer considered part of that series' canon because they conflicted where they wanted to franchise.
So novels are only considered canon as long as the owners of said franchise want them to be.

"Cameos" (at least in the way that word is used on the forums) are pointless, in my opinion. Hollow fan service which does nothing except drain resources. The only reason a character should return is if there is if there is a plausible narrative reason for it. Alistair's appearance in DA II only made sense when he was the king, and even then the briefness of it pretty much boiled it down to fan service (there should have at least been a quest attatched). However, Sophia Dryden's cameo was utterly bizarre, and is an example of the type of thing BioWare should move away from when handling appearances across multiple games.
I'm not going to predict who we will (or should) see in DA III since we know nothing about the plot, but I can't see any convincing narrative reason for characters such as dog, Fenris or Sigrun to have any role in a future game beyond a, "Oh, it's you! You know when fans say they want Dog back they are referring to Macabi Hounds as companions or party members, right?
Macabri Hounds are animals that can appear anywhere. This makes no sense for them to dissapear like they never existed. I see many of you are justifying your wants why putting down other fans wants.

Alistair CAN die and therefore should never be given more than a cameo appearance in future games. Ditto for Zevran. Although OP doesn't feel he should return, the same should apply to Anders.
Each game should have a new Mabari and I'm fine with the Mabari being a summonable character rather than a proper party member.
BioWare should do what they can to remedy the bug that had Zevran show up in Dragon Age II regardless of whether he was killed by the Warden or not for the sake of the third game, should they decide to have him appear. If they can't fix it, at least explain how he could have survived being stabbed fatally. Is it something to do with the Rogue ability to feign death? Is it an old Crow trick?
The DLC I would like to most see would be one that ties up Morrigan's story. What did she discover beyond the mirror? What did Flemeth do when she caught up with her?
Sebastian Vael?!! REALLY?!! He was very dull...
