As we know there will be 10 companions in Inquisition. A few leaks actually give names and characteristics for a few, but we don't really trust them, do we? What we need are real info to know what to expect from our characters. Well, based on Origins and DA2, we can find interesting patterns that could help us figure out how to deal with our characters. So let's see:
- The Shield using tank warrior will be a redhead(Alistair, Aveline)
- The ranged rogue as well(Leliana, Varic)
- And for that matter, the dwarf(Oghren, Varic)
- The idealist chantry supporter is a royalty(Alistair, Sebastian)
- The two handed sword user will be the provider of Qnari lore(Sten, Fenris)
- The tough-girl love interest will be half naked(Morrigan, Isabella)
- The apparently sweet girl will have some dark secret(Leliana, Merill)
- You will first see the female rogue in a bar(Leliana, Isabella)
- The melee rogue will at one point leave the party if you don't have a high enough approoval(Zhevran, Isabella)
  - Also these two will at some point mention either that they were tied up, or that they want to be
- The offensive mage gets involved in the plot because of Flemeth's orders(Morrigan, Merill)
- The healer mage is slightly undead with a benevolent Fade spirit keeping him/her alive(Wynn, Anders)

Did I leave out anything? No, I tink that is all. Correct me if I am wrong somewhere.
We shall see wether this remains true for Inquisition. But my guess is, yes.

Bioware also denied the ME3 leak so that doesn't mean much. They're obviously not going to flat out confirm a leak when they want us to be speculating currently.

Nice list. However, One can hardly call Alistair a Chantry Supporter. Yes he had Templar training, but as far as I can tell the man hates the Chantry.

I think it's more that they're not going to confirm any possible validity to a leak when things are still in production and subject to change.

Wynne is dead. You realy sould read the books/comics. She died during the first months of the rebellion. She gave her life force and faith spirite to the captain who was in charge of the circle in Orlais. Her son(who is in love whith the captain) tooke her position as spokesperson for the Aequitarians.

Tallis doesn't really rock the makeup. She has a good look, mind, but she's pretty subtle with the blush. And her lipstick is more pink than red.

These jokes get pretty old after a while.

Nice list, OP.

The ranged-attack rogue will also like to tell questionably accurate "true stories."
The healer mage will wear a dress.

Yes. And? How does that proove anything wrong? That happened way after her role in Origins. The names in paranthesis are the ones who fulfilled said role in Origins and DA2 repsectively, to provide the pattern I am using.

The healer mage will wear a dress. Well mages wearing robes are hardly surprising. I went for the extras

Really wondering what the devs think

No. There will not. I have nothing to say on the survey, which I assume this number is based upon, but I am telling you this number is incorrect.

Well, based on Origins and DA2, we can find interesting patterns that could help us figure out how to deal with our characters.

Not quite. There are indeed always going to be some things you can find in common between characters, but those aren't things that we plan. The thing you can reasonably expect, and which we do plan for, are:

1) A range of character classes, and within those classes a range of primary class abilities (so, to take DA2 as an example, we had one Warrior who was Sword+Shield and one who was Two-Handed Sword).

2) A range of races.

3) A range of viewpoints, representing different aspects of Thedas but-- more importantly-- representing different sides of the central conflicts in DA3.

Considering we writers tend to deliberately try for different types of characters each time out of the gate, I doubt looking at DAO and DA2 for some kind of pattern is going to be very helpful-- short of the above. Mind you, if someone can look at Mission from KotOR, Leliana from DA and Tali from ME and decide that they are all the same characters... well, then I imagine blurring the differences enough can provide you an archetype which might be of some use. I'm not really sure what use that would be, however, since there's so much wiggle room within an archetype it would tell you precisely nothing.

Please. It's so Mission, Dawn Star, Leliana, and Liara! Tali is Merrill, didn't you know that?

Things we know for certian about the companions (or at least are highly probable):

1. Most will be mammals.
2. Most will be sentient.
3. Many will be bipedal.
4. One will probably be a spellflinger.
5. One will probably hit things with a weapon.
6. One will likely be sneaky.
7. All of them will interact with the PC.
8. At least one will be high maintenance.

That's really about it.

Cassandra and Cole are the only characters I am confident will be in as companions. Possibly the grey warden with the moustache from DA2, Charade Amell and Shale but those are only guesses. I would also presume 2-3 completely new characters. DG says not ten, but it could be 9 ;)

Interesting parallels between the DAO and DA2 characters.

Though I wouldn't say Alistair and Varric were redheads. Maybe I'm colorblind, but I thought they were dark blond. Granted, nearly all the hair colors in DA for some reason have a noticeably red tint.

at this point everything is speculation. Gaider said the number is not ten, tha means it could be from 0 to infinity. Most accurate I think so far is Moustalker's list aside from that. SPECULATION!!!!!

As long as we have 2 healers with different personalitys I'll be happy regardless, hated being forced to take Anders everywhere. Unless playing Spirit Healer.

Oh and Merrill.

Nah he just didn't like his life as a templar because he felt trapped by it. If anything he just didn't bring it up that much as it wasn't a major facet of his character like it was for Leliana or Sebastian. I mean it could be that he wasn't a fan of the organization of the Chantry i.e. that treatement of mages and such but he was just to excited when they found the Urn of Sacred Ashes to be anti-Andraste, plus he tended to give me the most Andrastian lore when I had him around.
